Not long after, the Underground City.

The underground palace, which was originally sowhat intact, had now completely collapsed. Walls crumbled, ceilings caved in, and massive cracks split open across the ground.

Beside two fallen stone pillars, Alfred curled up at the edge of the collapsed altar, panting heavily.

Murphy lay next to him, his body shattered into pieces from head to toe, leaving only a relatively intact head lying lonesoly to the side. His frozen expression still faintly showed remnants of anger, astonishnt, and terror.

"Tch!"

Alfred spat bloody saliva to the side and cursed, "You old bastard!"

Black fissures erged one after another across his body, the skin around the cracks gradually peeling away, resembling wall paint falling off. His body was clearly on the verge of collapse.

Forcibly elevating himself to a power he didn’t belong to was never ant to last. The scheming Murphy hadn’t intended to let him truly break through to wizard level from the start. It was only ant as a temporary boost to grant him that power for the sole purpose of activating those eyes.

"No..."

Alfred rasped, his voice filled with unwillingness. "I can’t die yet..."

"I’ve co this far... How can I fall here?"

He struggled to stand up, dragging his wounded and disintegrating body step by step forward toward the darkness...

...

"Alfred?" Lynch was stunned.

Frankie nodded slightly. "Yes, that apprentice’s na is Alfred."

Lynch furrowed his brow.

According to what Frankie had just told him, Alfred had co here years ago and studied all the books related to those eyes. That explained why Frankie had imdiately thought Alfred had co for the sa information when he’d seen him.

’So, in that case...’

If he’d deliberately sought out the knowledge, it seed he had known all along the true purpose behind his ntor’s special treatnt...

’Turns out this guy is the one who mastered pretending to be clueless down to the bone!’

Earlier, Avery had said Alfred was the only one in the world completely in the dark—just thinking about it now felt laughable.

’Given that, as for Wizard Murphy...’

From Lynch’s impression, Alfred was not the type to sit and let fate dictate. If he hadn’t known it was one thing, but now, with him having known all along and yet feigning ignorance, he was undoubtedly plotting sothing in secret. Most likely...

For so reason, Lynch had a faint feeling that Wizard Murphy was probably dood. Between an apprentice and a wizard, it sounded incredible, but this premonition stubbornly lingered.

’Let it be. Their conflict is their business, nothing to do with .’

Lynch wasn’t sure if Alfred could truly strike back, nor if Alfred would return to the Shadow Tower even if he succeeded. But either way, neither outco posed a threat to him anymore.

He was now an official Netta apprentice, supported by the entirety of Shadow Tower—no re high-level apprentice nor even an official wizard would dare challenge him...

’Speaking of which, what exactly is with those eyes?’

An official-level wizard had spent years, sinking an astronomical amount of resources and wealth into them. Lynch’s curiosity deepened.

He imdiately grasped the pile of books, headed to the nearby reading section, and sat down on the sofa to peruse them.

As the pages unfolded, the secret finally beca clear to him.

"Eye of Death God? Divine bloodline, huh?"

According to the book, his eyes traced their origin back thousands of years to a being known as the "Grey Death God," one of the high-level divine creatures under the celestial category.

From the historical accounts Lynch read, the wizard civilization of this world had been developing for roughly ten millennia. Prior to that, the world wasn’t dominated by wizards but by divine creatures—the beings mortals referred to as gods.

During that ti, many gods road this world: the Water God, Fire God, Lake Goddess, Love God, and so on.

That era was thus called the Age of Gods.

These divine beings, like ordinary living creatures, had mating cycles. Most of them lacked ethical or moral principles and would indulge their desires recklessly, whether with demons, magic plants, pigs, sheep, dogs, or any other species.

rely venting their desires wasn’t the issue, but the astonishing part was that they lacked reproductive isolation from the majority of species.

As a result, many creatures that interacted with them would conceive offspring linked by bloodline to the divine. These second-generation deities often inherited the traits of the gods, awakening divine powers as they grew.

This phenonon beca known as ’divinity.’

In the present world, there was even an entire branch of magic called ’divine attribute magic’ focused on utilizing such divine abilities. Lynch had witnessed Avery using it before.

The Grey Death God particularly favored expanding its lineage, and its descendants inherited gray eyes, known as the Eye of Death God.

These Eyes of Death God were transcendent organs, their traits incapable of manifesting in ordinary living beings. However, once the bearer advanced to wizard level, the eyes would undergo their true transformation, awakening their intended powers.

"I see. So this was Murphy’s main motive for pushing Alfred to the wizard level no matter the cost, huh?"

Lynch stroked his chin and quickly pieced it together.

"Divine attribute magic... What luck." Reading through the entries, Lynch couldn’t help but smile.

Divine attribute magic fell under a subcategory of bloodline magic but was especially unique. The learning requirents were exceedingly harsh—it wasn’t sothing that could be externally cultivated. Essentially, if one didn’t possess divine bloodline naturally, it was off-limits.

Previously, when Lynch read about this magic, he had found it fascinating and was montarily disappointed he couldn’t study it.

Now, it seed fate had taken a turn, granting him the opportunity after all.

"Eye of Death God, huh? Looks pretty interesting."

Just reading through the densely docunted divine attribute magic associated with those eyes carried an undeniable sense of their formidable might. With power like that, it was no wonder Wizard Murphy had been so greedy.

All Lynch could say was—what luck...

...

A few days later, shocking news spread across the Tower—

Wizard Murphy had been killed, and the perpetrator was none other than the apprentice he had painstakingly trained for years: Alfred.

Earth-shattering.

Among the apprentices who heard the news, none weren’t completely stunned.

For those uninford, they couldn’t fathom why Alfred would murder Wizard Murphy, given Murphy’s widely recognized dedication to him.

For those privy to the situation, they were equally baffled. How could an apprentice defeat a wizard?

The incident swept through like wildfire, becoming the hottest topic of discussion.

"So it really happened..."

Though Lynch had suspected this outco, hearing the confirmation still surprised him greatly.

Alongside his astonishnt, a sense of urgency surfaced within him. He didn’t know what ans Alfred had used to overthrow an official-level wizard, but achieving this spoke volus about Alfred’s strength.

He and Alfred were mortal enemies... Although Alfred was now branded a Black Wizard and his whereabouts unknown, what if they crossed paths outside soday...

"Best to focus on improving strength..."

Turning pressure into motivation, Lynch imrsed himself in his laboratory.

The materials were set, the missing knowledge had been found in the library, and progress on Barton’s repairs was ready to comnce.

After over twenty days, Lynch successfully completed Barton’s restoration. Not just that, he also replaced Barton’s components with a series of advanced organs, integrating so higher-tier troubleso lifeform bloodlines for additional modification.

The revamped Barton not only retained its previous capabilities but elevated them further, growing even stronger.

Against ordinary high-level apprentices, this monster was now unbeatable.

The day after Barton’s repairs were done, Lynch received a visitor at his small courtyard.

A familiar visitor.

When he opened the door, he saw a breathtakingly beautiful young girl standing in the courtyard. Her pristine white cloak shimred faintly even under the dim lighting.

She was crouching down, teasing a little bear. Upon seeing Lynch open the door, she turned her head and stood up, cradling the bear in her arms.

Without preamble, Avery spoke, "I need an apprentice familiar with biological transformation to perform so modifications on my pet."

She paused briefly, appearing nonchalant yet seemingly faintly nervous as she took a light inhale and continued, "Goblin Bic told you’re the most outstanding biological transformation expert here."
