Chapter 65: Chapter 63: Quirk Alliance
’Bruno?’
’Good. Perfect.’
’He didn’t need a fighter. What he needed was a professional "resource detection and collection expert." It seems no one who makes it to Advanced Apprentice is simple; they all have a unique skill up their sleeve.’
"You. You’re in charge of navigation and collection."
Allen returned the pebble to Bruno, his decision final.
"Welco to the team."
Bruno froze. He looked at Allen, then at Baston beside him, unable to process the sudden turn of events.
Baston, however, let out a huge sigh of relief, a genuine smile spreading across his honest face.
He clapped Bruno hard on the shoulder, nearly driving his slender teammate into the ground.
"I... I really can?" Bruno’s voice trembled.
He’d lost count of how many teams had rejected him, and he didn’t have the ability to complete missions on his own.
The feeling of being seen as a burden, a disgrace to the Wizard Academy, was nearly enough to crush him.
"Your abilities et my requirents," Allen said, his tone firm.
He then turned to Baston and Lina.
"I know you still have so doubts about the mission I chose, but all the easy missions in the hall were taken long ago. We have no other choice."
"Since we’ve decided to form a team, we need rules."
His voice reached the ears of the other three, instantly turning the atmosphere serious.
Allen held up one finger. "First, the division of labor."
His gaze fell on Baston first. "Baston, you have only one job. During combat, hold the Crystal Shell Burrowing Insect’s front line and buy us ti."
Baston puffed out his chest and nodded firmly.
Allen’s gaze shifted to Lina. "Lina, you’re responsible for two things. One, use your abilities to monitor our surroundings. Give us an early warning of any potential danger, whether it’s from the environnt or... other people. Two, during the battle, try to use your Mind Witchcraft to soothe the Crystal Shell Burrowing Insect and reduce its aggression."
"Okay!" Lina hugged the notebook in her arms tightly, her azure eyes shining.
Finally, Allen looked at Bruno. "Bruno, you’re in charge of leading the way and finding the Crystal Shell Burrowing Insect’s nest. After the battle, I’ll need you to guide us in collecting a special resource and ensuring it remains active. I’ll explain the details later."
"Leading the way... and collecting?" Bruno muttered to himself, his eyes shining with a brilliant light.
Baston, Lina, and Bruno looked at one another, and they all saw the sa feeling reflected in each other’s eyes.
It was the feeling of being acknowledged and respected!
Unlike everyone else, Allen hadn’t mocked their "flaws." Instead, he had precisely identified each of their strengths and placed them in the most suitable positions.
Allen held up a second finger. "Second, loot distribution."
The mont he said that, Baston, Lina, and Bruno all tensed up and watched him.
"The mission reward is 800 Magic Stones, which we’ll split evenly four ways."
"I know it’s not much. For you, the main goal is just to get through this mandatory mission."
"But I have a way to bring in additional profit. When the ti cos, I guarantee a minimum of 400 Magic Stones for each of you."
"What?"
Baston blurted out, his voice booming like thunder.
Four hundred Magic Stones each! That was more than the reward for any mission they had ever accepted!
The few apprentices nearby who had been eavesdropping were also stunned.
"Did I hear him right? Is he just making empty promises? He’s crazy!"
"I get it! He’s trying to buy their loyalty! Using Magic Stones to purchase the allegiance of those three rejects!"
"What a generous... moron. Spending so much just to rope people in."
Amid the crowd’s chatter, only Lina tilted her head, watching Allen.
In her eyes, the "blue" aura around Allen deepened, and countless silver threads computed at an incomprehensible, ultra-high frequency.
’Professional, efficient, ruthless, yet with a strange sense of fairness.’
’He’s not a moron. He’s smarter than everyone here.’
Lina ca to a conclusion in her heart.
Allen ignored all the chatter and held up a third finger.
"Third, command authority."
His gaze turned sharp.
"During the mission, I require command authority over this team. Trust , I will bring you all back in one piece and secure our paynt."
"This is my bottom line for participating. If you agree, we sign the contract. If not, you can leave now."
"I agree!"
Baston was the first to speak, his voice deep and resonant as a bell.
"I... I agree too!" Bruno followed right after, his gaze firr than ever before.
Lina didn’t speak, just nodded emphatically, her smile as pure as the morning dew in the Silent Forest.
"Good."
The mont Allen’s voice fell, Bruno was already fumbling frantically in his junk-stuffed pockets, pulling out a standard-form Magic Contract Paper and a pen.
"I... I have a contract here."
He said, a bit sheepishly, handing it over as if presenting a treasure.
It was perfectly normal for an apprentice of the Contract School to carry contracts with him.
Allen nodded, took the paper, and after a mont of consideration, quickly drew up the terms of their partnership.
Under the mixed gazes of mockery and confusion from the onlookers,
the four of them signed their nas on the contract simultaneously.
The contract was ford!
The contract glowed faintly as the four nas were seared onto its surface.
A "grade-skipping moron" for a commander.
A Mind School empath regarded as a "neurotic."
A Bloodline School defender known as a "living target."
A Contract School heretic treated as a "freak."
And so, the most unpromising "ragtag army" in the history of the Wizard Academy was ford.
Afterward, the four of them went back to the light screen.
"Party full. Mission accepted successfully."
A flash of light crossed the mission light screen.
Under the entry for the [Hunt the Crystal Shell Burrowing Insect of the Silent Forest] mission,
the team roster was officially confird: Allen, Lina, Baston, Bruno.
"Alright, we’re a team now."
Allen clapped his hands, as if he had just completed a trivial task.
He looked at his three new teammates, who wore various expressions but were all filled with anticipation, and said,
"To increase the mission’s success rate, I’ll provide you all with so Alchemy Tools before we depart to improve your survivability."
"Wow!" the three of them exclaid in unison. ’He’s even giving us gear?’
’This captain is so generous and reliable!’
"They’re just so small trinkets. Alright then, everyone prepare tomorrow. We’ll gather and set out first thing the day after."
The four then agreed to et at the academy plaza and returned to their respective dorms.
Not long after they left, an apprentice who had just finished registering for a mission suddenly cried out,
"It’s him! I rember now! He’s that Allen Wesren who caused a huge stir on the forums!"
"What? The freak who finished all the public courses in ten months?"
"My god! He actually ford a team like that? I thought he’d go looking for the top ten powerhouses in our year to team up with!"
A gossip-monger quietly opened their personal terminal.
A mont later, a post with a highly sensational title was quietly published on the freshman forum:
[BREAKING! Annual Grind King Allen Wesren Spends a Fortune to Form "Quirk Alliance" to Challenge a Hell-Level Mission!]
Replies below the post:
"LMAO, did the Grind King grind his brain into mush? Baston, Bruno... what kind of motley crew is that?"
"I bet 100 Magic Stones they won’t even get to see the Crystal Shell Burrowing Insect."
"The poster above is thinking too small. I bet they’ll get kicked to death by rabbits in the Silent Forest. Quirk Alliance, hahaha, that na is too perfect!"
Of course, that was a story for another ti.
