Chapter 114: Chapter 111: Personal Show
The noise from the viewing platform died down.
Nearly five hundred apprentices, both junior and Advanced Apprentices, fell silent. Their gazes were fixed on the destroyed tower top, searching carefully.
The smoke and dust had yet to disperse, and the residual heat from the explosion made the air shimr.
In their view, no chanical Body could have survived such a saturation attack.
But the screen for Number 27, which had not turned gray, declared a fact that contradicted reality.
"What’s going on? Is it a mistake?" one apprentice murmured, a blank look on his face.
"Was the tracking Witchcraft interfered with? Maybe the chanical Body was actually destroyed, but the signal is delayed?" another countered, though his tone was filled with uncertainty.
"Impossible! The Black Tower’s competitions have never had this kind of glitch!"
In the professors’ section, several professors from the alchemy school also sat up straight.
rcer Iron Star’s posture, leaning back in his chair, hadn’t changed, but the fingertips of his brass chanical arm had, at so point, stopped tapping.
The creators of the chanical Bodies that had launched the focused attack noticed that Number 27’s signal was indeed still active, and their expressions turned grim.
They all knew the power of that last volley.
To survive that kind of firepower, no matter what thod the opponent used, ant they were a formidable enemy.
In the contestants’ section, Allen remained seated in the corner. His ordinary face, altered by [Chaleon Disguise], showed no emotion.
It was as if all the confusion around him had nothing to do with him.
Occupying the high ground to snipe would inevitably draw concentrated fire. This was a high-probability event, and the response plan had long been written into the Spider Slayer’s core logic.
The mont the first Magical Guided Missile was launched, the highest-priority directive pre-programd into the Spider Slayer’s Control Core was triggered.
[Threat Level: Critical. Initiating Ergency Evasion: Shadow Travel.]
The instant the explosion occurred, the Spider Slayer’s entire body dissolved into a faint gray shadow and slipped into that gray, silent, interdiate dinsion.
In the Shadow Realm, the explosions and fire of the real world were nothing more than a silent ripple of energy.
Ten seconds.
That was the maximum ti it could remain in the Shadow Realm.
The Control Core had already planned its return coordinates based on battlefield data. Ten seconds was more than enough ti for it to reach that location.
In the arena, the tracked chanical Body codenad "Six-Link Shooter" had just unloaded all its firepower and was in the process of auto-reloading.
In the Wizarding World, the most common long-range weapons were beam-type; payload weapons like Magical Guided Missiles were comparatively rare.
Its Control Core determined that the threat was eliminated and the surrounding area was safe.
However, at that very mont, behind a wall 50 ters behind the Six-Link Shooter, an extrely faint ripple appeared in the air.
A black-gray silhouette solidified out of the void, its six jointed legs landing silently on the ground.
The Spider Slayer had returned.
[Cooldown initiated: 180 seconds.]
[Target locked.]
[Analyzing target structural weakness: Ammunition bay.]
[Attack plan generated. Executing.]
The Spider Slayer’s sniper module extended once more.
On the viewing platform, the scene on screen 27 suddenly changed.
An apprentice who had been staring intently at the screen suddenly shouted, "Look! It appeared!"
Everyone’s eyes were instantly drawn to it!
They witnessed a terrifying scene.
The black chanical spider was already in a firing stance. A sliver of ethereal blue light gathered as it aid at the Six-Link Shooter’s undefended rear, like the grim reaper casting its gaze downward.
PFFT.
The sound was so faint it was almost inaudible.
A slender beam of energy shot with pinpoint accuracy into the Six-Link Shooter’s missile pod, which had just finished reloading and had not yet closed.
BOOM—!
A secondary explosion!
A massive fireball erupted into the sky, instantly blasting the tracked chanical Body into a pile of burning scrap tal!
On the light screen, the Six-Link Shooter’s feed instantly went gray.
On the scoreboard, the points next to one na jumped.
[Allen Wesren: 16 points → 36 points]
One second, two seconds...
"WHOA—!!!"
A tsunami of gasps and shouts threatened to overturn the entire viewing platform!
"Holy shit! Teleportation! It’s a spatial ability!"
"My god! It hid in another dinsion, then appeared behind the enemy and insta-killed it!"
"So *that’s* its trump card! The sniping was just a feint!"
"So underhanded! So ruthless! I love it!"
The mbers of the mutual aid group snapped from their stunned silence into a frenzy, their faces flushing red with excitent as they scread wildly, celebrating the miraculous coback!
The host was also astonished, his voice trembling with shock. "It’s Shadow Travel! A true Shadow Hunter has appeared in the arena! Could he be the final champion?!"
In the contestants’ section, Allen watched the numbers jump on the light screen, his expression still impassive, his heart as calm as still water.
’The hunt has just begun.’
anwhile, the other contestants felt a chill run down their spines.
A chanical Body that could turn invisible, teleport, and carried a deadly sniper rifle!
Such an insidious design. How was anyone supposed to fight this?
Having succeeded in one strike, the Spider Slayer didn’t linger for a mont.
It scurried on its six legs back into the shadows of the ruins, strictly executing Allen’s tactical plan.
Until Shadow Travel’s cooldown finished, it was to enter the highest level of stealth.
Patience is a fundantal skill for a top hunter.
...
Elsewhere, the mantis-like chanical Body that had been responsible for harassnt earlier was now pressed tightly against the inner corner of a building.
It kept switching its detection perspective, using its excellent sensor systems to scan the surroundings for any potential enemies.
It didn’t know that the grim reaper had already added it to the list.
In the shadows hanging in the air behind the mantis chanical Body, the air distorted ever so slightly.
Shadow Travel, cooldown complete!
The Spider Slayer’s form materialized silently like a phantom, pouncing directly from the air onto the back of the mantis chanical Body.
Two of its bladed tal legs shot forward, piercing through the thinnest part of the mantis chanical Body’s neck!
SCREEECH—
A critical Rune Circuit was physically severed. The mantis chanical Body was taken out on the spot, collapsing limply to the ground.
Its creator only saw their screen instantly turn a dead gray.
Another one!
On the viewing platform, the crowd erupted in gasps once again.
On the scoreboard, Allen’s na jumped once more.
[Allen Wesren: 36 points → 56 points]
"An insta-kill! Another insta-kill!"
"It got in close! It doesn’t just snipe, it can assassinate up close!"
"It’s over... How are we supposed to fight this? You get sniped at range, insta-killed up close, and it can go invisible and teleport... This is basically cheating!"
The nature of this competition was, at this mont, completely redefined.
This was no longer a chanical Body competition.
This was a survival horror ga called "Avoid Number 27."
