The Cavalry of the City of Death, even the weakest among them, were formal Knights; the most outstanding were Great Knights. Combined with their warhorses of special Bloodlines, their collective explosive power could easily slay fierce beasts. Not to ntion the enhancents from Dharma Seals and Battle Skills. Even a First Order Legendary Knight, when faced with a siege by hundreds of Cavalry, could only flee in disarray.
But now, facing the monsters, their situation was perilous.
"ROAR!"
A monster with a wolf’s head, a tiger’s body, and a snake’s tail pounced on a Knight. Its trendous force knocked the warhorse down. With a massive bite, it tore off the Knight’s upper body and swallowed it whole.
Not far away, two boar-shaped monsters rooted at a fallen warhorse, devouring its spilled entrails. Such scenes unfolded across the battlefield; few Knights held the upper hand against the monsters.
"KILL!" Robin bellowed, urging his horse forward as he charged at a ’deer’ monster.
The deer monster, as large as an elephant, had antlers that shimred with a tallic luster. A slight nudge of its head was enough to clash against weapons.
"CLANG..."
Robin felt as if he had crashed into a mountain; the trendous recoil numbed his arm and dazed him. By the ti he regained his senses, the deer monster had charged close, lowered its head, and with a flick, sent him and his warhorse flying. The imnse force tore the warhorse apart, and he crashed heavily to the ground. As the deer monster closed in, Robin’s injuries made it difficult for him to move. He could only watch helplessly, awaiting death.
"BANG!"
Suddenly, an invisible force descended from the sky like a gigantic hand, slamming the deer monster to the ground.
"Huh?" A surprised exclamation was heard, seemingly from soone astonished that the strike hadn’t killed the deer monster. Imdiately after, several more bursts of energy descended from the sky, repeatedly striking the deer monster, grinding it into the ground. In just a few monts, the deer monster, capable of withstanding the blades of Legendary Knights, was pounded into a pile of gore.
Carl’s figure appeared on the field. The Battle Aura within him roared out, coalescing behind him into the ethereal form of a Buddha.
Ten Thousand Buddha Hands!
Countless palm imprints descended from the sky, accurately striking nurous monsters on the field, instantly clearing a large area. Although these monsters were tough and robust, none but First Order Creatures could withstand his casual strikes. Even First Order Creatures would only require a few more palm strikes.
"ROAR!"
Just as he was about to annihilate the remaining monsters, the ground ahead shook violently, and a gigantic worm burst from the earth.
An earthworm?
The earthworm before him was a hundred ters long, with long whiskers, and its body was covered in scales.
Did it have claws on its abdon too?
Before he could get a clear look, the ’earthworm’ had already charged close. What arrived first, however, was a terrifying pressure.
Dragon Might!
A spiritual attack, similar to a Fear Aura, enveloped the entire area, causing half of the surviving Cavalry to faint on the spot. Even Carl’s Breath hitched, his expression turning solemn.
A Third-tier Dragon Eel!
Ten Thousand Buddha Hands—Vajra Seal!
"BANG!"
A huge golden palm imprint materialized, clashing with the Dragon Eel. The impact imdiately caused the ground to shake and a hurricane to rage. Carl, his face flushed, retreated a step. His fingers flickered with Spirit Light as he activated the Second Circle Magic: Cold and Hot Variations. He had already stacked this magic once before. Instantly, the air before him beca intensely cold, then shifted to extre heat, alternating twenty tis within a single second.
"ROAR!"
For a large creature, such rapid alternations between extre cold and heat were undoubtedly a severe form of torture. The Dragon Eel roared skyward, its scales clattering off in sheets, revealing the raw, red flesh underneath. Simultaneously, it coiled its body and charged again. This charge seed to carry the power of heaven and earth.
In Carl’s perception, his vision suddenly went black; even Elental Particles vanished from his sensory range. The once enormous ethereal Buddha also seed to shrink, becoming exceedingly small.
"WHOOSH..."
Ten Thousand Buddha Hands—Thunder Seal!
"CRACKLE!"
"BOOM..."
Blinding lightning tore through the darkness, colliding with the attacking Dragon Eel. Instantly, the area was filled with flashing lightning and roaring thunder. Just as man and beast were locked in a standoff, a shadowy figure silently appeared behind the Dragon Eel. Slender fingers reached forward and made a gentle swipe.
"SWISH!"
The action on the field abruptly froze. Carl felt the pressure before him vanish. Focusing his gaze, he saw the Dragon Eel’s massive body crash heavily to the ground.
In midair, a five-ter-tall giant hovered.
"City Lord!"
"Your Highness!"
The Knights still conscious on the field were overco with elation upon seeing the newcor, and they all dropped to one knee in respect.
The City Lord? i Weiya, the City Lord of the City of Death? Why is her body so... enormous?
But Carl quickly snapped back to reality. He had forgotten that the Demigods in this world possessed giant Bloodlines. It was said that Duke Ferdinand was a full ten ters tall. i Weiya, at just over five ters, was already considered quite petite by comparison. It was rumored that the true forms of the Divine could span kiloters.
"Hmm." Nodding, i Weiya slowly descended from the air, her body gradually shrinking until she reached a normal human size.
"Carl?" Gazing at Carl, i Weiya’s eyes flickered. "The mysterious Pharmacist from Jiliu City?"
"Yes." Carl affird, slowly withdrawing his palm imprint to show he ant no harm. "Respected Lord via, it’s a pleasure to et you. May I ask how Miss Olanna has been recently?"
He had never t i Weiya, but he knew her ’daughter,’ Olanna.
"She is well." i Weiya nodded, her voice tinged with an odd note. "I didn’t expect that aside from us who possess divine Bloodlines, this world would also harbor a powerful individual such as yourself."
"Rest assured. I an no harm."
Carl believed her. Besides, he could tell she was likely injured; her aura was very unstable. Although she had killed the Dragon Eel the mont she appeared, it had clearly cost her a great deal of energy. Even if they were to fight, he wasn’t afraid.
"Lord via." Carl thought for a mont, glanced around, and then asked, "What happened here?"
"An Evil God," i Weiya said, steadying her agitated Breath. She signaled to the surviving Knights to clear the battlefield before explaining, "There’s an Outer Realm Evil God nad ’Dragon Calamity’ that has scattered Its seeds in our world. Anyone contaminated by Its seeds will transform into a ’draconic’ form and harbor malice towards other races. This will continue until the entire world is overrun by the progeny of ’Dragon Calamity,’ at which point It will return to harvest."
She paused, then i Weiya looked towards the Dragon Eel’s corpse, her beautiful eyes glinting slightly. "This Dragon Eel must be one of Dragon Calamity’s followers. Without your help, dealing with it would have required considerably more effort on my part. Hmm... Thank you for your assistance. Otherwise, the people I brought with likely wouldn’t have made it back."
She’s only now thinking about the fate of her subordinates. It seems the rumors about her cold nature aren’t false. The Dragon Eel was one of Its followers? A Third-tier Dragon Eel... that would most likely be an Upper-level Vassal. If I had killed it myself, I could have gained over ten points of Source Material. Realizing this, Carl couldn’t help but feel a pang of regret. If he had known, he would have used his full strength to try and end the fight quickly.
"As fellow inhabitants of this world, it’s natural to help when one sees the need." Composing himself, Carl asked, "Your Highness, I haven’t been in Jiliu City recently. Do you know what the situation is like there?"
"Jiliu City..." i Weiya gently shook her head. "Ever since the Moon Goddess’s Barrier collapsed, Divine Domain Fragnts rained down from the sky, and the land itself was torn asunder. The City of Death has lost contact with other regions, and who knows where Jiliu City drifted with the fractured earth. Perhaps it beca an isolated island in the Endless Sea Domain."
That would be the best-case scenario. Many cities were destroyed by falling Divine Domain Fragnts or ravaged by the power of Evil Gods. Jiliu City, being close to the Endless Sea Domain, was most likely subrged by the sea, but it wouldn’t be pleasant to say that aloud.
Carl fell silent. He too had suspected the worst. Tortuga Island had a unique terrain. He had planted a Soul Seal in the Sal Tree there, but that Soul Seal had long since shattered. This ant the Sal Tree was dead. If a tree with such tenacious vitality couldn’t survive, the chances of anyone else on the island surviving were even slimr.
"Carl," i Weiya suddenly spoke. "Like , you are a being born and raised in this world. I can trust you. I would like to ask for your help in dealing with one of the Evil God’s followers located near the City of Death."
"Oh?" Carl raised an eyebrow. I’m hardly a native of this world, and even if I were, natives aren’t the sa as soone with a divine Bloodline like you, he thought, then casually asked, "Your Highness can’t handle it?"
Judging from the abilities she displayed earlier, she’s not much weaker than I am. Yet, she has an opponent she can’t deal with?
"That one is an Upper-level Vassal," i Weiya said. "Its strength is comparable to this Dragon Eel, but its thods are rather bizarre, making it very difficult to kill permanently. Of course, if you help, I will provide appropriate compensation."
"Compensation?" Carl gently shook his head. "Your Highness, I am unwilling to take the risk."
Besides, there’s a lack of sufficient trust between us. He didn’t want to get stabbed in the back. Although he coveted the Source Material from an Upper-level Vassal, he didn’t intend to make a move.
"We can sign a contract." i Weiya flicked her wrist, producing a contract scroll, and looked at Carl. "According to my estimations, the Moon Goddess’s Barrier will completely collapse in less than a hundred years. We don’t have much ti left. If we, the people of this world, cannot even join forces, then when the Outer Realm Evil Gods truly invade... No one will be left to resist!"
"..." Carl opened his mouth, sowhat speechless. "Your Highness, forgive my bluntness, but no matter how hard we strive, it’s impossible for us to grow strong enough within a hundred years to confront the Outer Realm Evil Gods. Unless the Ancient Gods are revived, surrendering offers the best chance of survival."
"I know a way to leave this world," i Weiya said, her expression unreadable. "And I can share it with you."
Hmm? Carl’s eyes lit up.
