Oma’s figure descended from the sky, landing near a corpse that had suffered a grueso death. Her expression was grim.
"Wizard Oma!"
"Senior!"
A few Wizard Apprentices with backgrounds from the High Tower stood nearby, looking uneasy as they made way.
This was a narrow alley near the market. Puddles covered the ground from the rain two days prior. A crowd had gathered at the entrance of the alley, whispering amongst themselves.
The corpse on the ground had endured extre torture before death. Its eyes had been gouged out, legs broken, and its face was covered in vicious slashes. The area around the groin was especially grueso, a clear indication the assailant had vented their rage in this manner.
"Disperse the onlookers!" Oma furrowed her brow. "What exactly happened here?"
"Senior," one of them began, his face pale, "yesterday afternoon, Lance was in a bad mood after being kicked out of a shop. He asked to go drinking with him, and we drank too much last night... By the ti I regained my senses and found him, he was already like this."
Lance was dead! And his death had been horrendous!
"Who did this?" Oma’s expression darkened. "With so many traces of the assailant left at the scene, don’t tell you have no clues!"
"It was probably Lair," soone whispered. "Lair, the Executioner. He’s a Great Knight who excels in using a saw-bladed sword. He... he’s always wanted to get his hands on Lance."
"Lair?" Oma asked. "Did he have a grudge against Lance?"
If soone else from the High Tower had been targeted, Oma probably wouldn’t have asked further questions and would have simply retaliated according to the rules.
But Lance... This man’s reputation was so vile that even she had heard of it. There might be other reasons for his murder.
"Well..." Kohen hesitated for a mont before speaking softly, "Lance was involved with Lair’s sister for a while. Later, Lair’s sister died."
He didn’t say how she died, but it was obvious Lance must have been connected to it; otherwise, it wouldn’t have provoked such a vendetta from Lair.
"Hmph..." Oma scoffed lightly. "Forget it! First, secure the body, and then..."
"Wizard Gold!"
Before she could finish speaking, another figure appeared, bringing with them an imnse pressure. It felt as if an invisible mountain had descended upon everyone present, making it difficult to breathe.
"Lance... is dead?"
Gold, his expression grim, had appeared at so point. His eyes were fixed on the corpse on the ground.
"His father specifically entrusted him to my care. I even restricted him from leaving the Leipzig Market to protect him." He paused. "And yet... sothing still happened!"
His voice was filled with rage, his eyes practically burning with it.
"Wizard Gold," Oma said soothingly, "what’s done is done. Don’t grieve too much. We need to handle Lance’s affairs properly and seek revenge for him."
"No!" Gold’s face turned cold. "There’s sothing else."
Hmm? Oma was startled.
"You’re Kohen, aren’t you?" Gold tilted his head, looking at the pale-faced, trembling young man beside him. "Lance ntioned your na to ."
"Y-yes..." Kohen’s lips trembled. "Senior, it wasn’t ! It wasn’t my fault!"
"I didn’t say Lance’s death had anything to do with you." Gold narrowed his eyes. "But he was drinking with you. You’re fine, yet he’s dead. Isn’t that a bit unfair?"
"You were so close to Lance. Accompanying him shouldn’t be a problem, should it?"
"Senior..." Kohen looked up, his face filled with despair. The next mont, he suddenly turned and dashed towards the street.
BANG!
As he charged forward, his body stiffened. His head exploded, scattering red and white matter everywhere.
One-Circle Witchcraft—Spirit Storm!
"Wizard Gold..." Oma’s face turned pale as she muttered, "That was unnecessary."
"It was entirely necessary!" Gold’s voice was ice-cold. "A mber of the Green family died. Soone must pay the price. That’s the rule of our family!"
"He should be thankful this is the Magic Forest and not the Kaliem Continent. Otherwise, his family would also have to accompany Lance in death!"
SWOOSH!
Gold reached out, and Lance’s body vanished into his spatial Witch Artifact. He then strode towards the market.
Oma hurried to follow. After a mont’s thought, she quickly wrote sothing on a piece of Magic Paper.
「Soon after.」
WHOOSH...
Gold, enveloped in Gale, arrived at the shop. His icy gaze swept over everyone present as he asked, "Who is Zoe?"
Zoe, who was busy, stopped what she was doing. Under the invisible pressure, her expression stiffened.
"I... am."
SWOOSH!
The words had barely left her lips when her body flew uncontrollably to the side. Simultaneously, the counter where she had been standing exploded violently. If she hadn’t dodged in ti, her upper body might have shattered on the spot, just like the counter.
The sudden murderous intent and the imminent threat of death instantly drained the color from her face, leaving it a mask of horror.
"Wizard Gold!" Carl exclaid as he walked out from the backyard. He pulled Zoe behind him and frowned at the newcor. "What do you think you’re doing?"
"Lance is dead," Gold stated, his voice ice-cold. "He died last night."
"That’s regrettable," Carl sighed. He had just learned the news from Oma’s ssage. "But what does this have to do with Zoe?"
"If it weren’t for her, you wouldn’t have driven Lance away," Gold began. "If you hadn’t driven him away, he wouldn’t have gone drinking, and he wouldn’t have been killed. So..." He paused, his gaze chilling. "This woman must pay the price."
His voice was ice-cold, his logic clear to him, yet he seed completely unaware of how twisted his reasoning was.
Or perhaps... that simply was his logic!
