It was but a flash.
A dark gleam appeared behind Carl’s head, poised to pierce his skull and extinguish his life force in the next instant.
Ti seed to freeze in that instant.
"No!" Yana, turning to witness this, felt her heart pound. She let out a silent, skyward scream.
In a blink, countless past experiences flashed through her mind.
As a child, she had relentlessly endured tornt to adapt to the Evil God Bloodline, all just to survive.
Every day, only when the kind priest spoke of God’s deeds would the pain in her body lessen.
God would redeem mankind.
Including them, the Desecration Knights.
Countless sessions of ntal conditioning and hypnotic suggestion had forged that phrase into the bedrock of her endurance.
God loves mankind!
God!
Loves His people.
Yana’s devotion to God was unquestionable, surpassing even that of the most devout Holy Temple Knight.
All that I am belongs to God...
Yet, in her heart, God had always been an ethereal concept, a spiritual anchor, never truly witnessed by anyone.
Until...
"God has His own Guardian. Sotis, God appears to the Guardian; they are the ones closest to God."
"Your task this ti is to protect him, and bring the Guardian back to the Holy Hall."
The voice of the Holy Hall Elder echoed in her ears. Yana had vaguely accepted the mission, her heart suddenly skipping a beat.
The Guardian, the one closest to God.
He would save God and also save her.
But now, the Guardian was about to die before her eyes. That despair and sense of collapse instantly shattered her sanity.
HISS...
HISS HISS...
Dark threads materialized out of thin air, like indestructible blades, instantly shredding the three Desecrated Ancient Beasts beside her into minceat.
BOOM!
The air trembled monuntally.
Yana’s figure appeared beside Carl as if by Instant Teleportation, her hand darting towards the dark gleam.
THWACK!
A shockwave of energy erupted.
Figures were sent flying in all directions.
Carl’s expression was grave. He flicked his hand, and a Seal materialized, seven Fierce Flas igniting around him.
Seven flas. Just one more than six, yet it signified the Seal’s power had advanced from the First-order Middle Stage to the First Rank Late Stage.
He had been continuously refining Seals during this period and, by a stroke of luck, had created a First Rank Late Stage Seal.
His refinent skill was still diocre; it was mainly the special nature of the materials that had granted him this fortuitous success.
BOOM!
The seven Fierce Flas smashed downwards.
Boundless flas surged forth, instantly incinerating the remaining three Desecrated Ancient Beasts to ash.
Where Yana had been, a pristine white arm suddenly shot out, yanked her underground, and vanished.
Burrowed underground?
Carl’s eyes twitched. He landed and scrutinized the ground closely.
Events had unfolded too quickly, so fast he hadn’t fully processed them. From Yana initially battling the Desecrated Ancient Beasts, to six more appearing and dragging him into the fray. Then, an assassin had suddenly appeared. And the assassin’s appearance had made Yana snap, intercepting the fatal blow ant for him.
At such close range, the Chain Fireball should have injured the assassin.
But the assailant had hidden behind Yana, avoiding most of the attack, and ultimately escaped with her.
"See that?" Boken, who had narrowly escaped, roared. "This is why the Holy Hall must eradicate these Desecration Knights! They will turn into monsters one day. No matter how docile or devout they seed before, they will eventually beco monsters!"
"Hmm?" Carl squinted. "Are you saying the one who just tried to assassinate was also a Desecration Knight?"
"Yes!" Boken nodded. "I didn’t detect her while she was hidden, but the mont she revealed herself, I recognized that scent all too well."
"A being that defiles the Divine!"
"A traitor!"
"Guardian Carl!" Boken stared directly at Carl and shouted, "Those traitors won’t let you go! They will never allow the Goddess to awaken! So co back with to the Holy Hall..."
"Back to the Holy Hall?" Carl shook his head, his tense nerves gradually relaxing. "Forget it."
"Since they are both Desecration Knights, Yana should be fine. Why don’t you tell so Magic Doors only a Guardian can cultivate? That way, when others co to kill , I’ll have the power to protect myself."
"Don’t you think?"
"Okay!" Boken nodded and suddenly lunged. "Go down!"
THUD!
Soone fell.
But it wasn’t Carl.
"Out of your depth." Shaking his head, Carl waved his sleeve, sketching a pattern imbued with mystical energy in the air.
"Did you think I couldn’t find out just because you wouldn’t tell ?"
"Master of Essence!"
"King of Thousand Forms!"
