"P-police?"

"Hush!"

The police’s abrupt presence silenced the entire hall. The jazz music ceased playing, making the tension more palpable among the anxious crowd. Faint whispers rippled through them.

A commanding officer stepped forward, leading his squad with absolute authority. The guests inevitably stepped backward, opening up the path for them as the police strode toward...

Nicholas.

Holding up a warrant, the officer declared, his voice loud and clear.

"Nicholas Wu, you’re under arrest for charges of fraud, embezzlent and accomplice to murder, conducted both here and overseas. We’re acting in coordination with Interpol. We have evidence and a court order for your detainnt."

"W-what?"

"Fraud? Even... accomplice to murder?"

"Did I hear it right?"

Gasps echoed among the crowds as the officers approached Nicholas, who froze in stunned disbelief. Trying to control his shock, he tried to speak calmly to the commanding officer.

"Sir, I believe this must be a mistake. Are you sure the Nicholas Wu in question is ?"

Nicholas’ attempt to act calmly was betrayed by the trembling of his voice. Daniel’s brows quickly rged together, also was as surprised as his friend.

What the hell was happening?

Why did the police suddenly appear and try to catch Nicholas?

The two n were too caught up in their shock to notice the slight smirk curling on Calix’s lips. He remained quiet as he witnessed the scene unfolding before him.

Yes.

The stage was set up perfectly by his dear friend. He just needed to be its audience.

"Yes, you are the Nicholas Wu," the officer drifted his sharp gaze to Daniel, announcing, "Daniel Yan, you’re under arrest for being Mr. Wu’s close accomplice."

Shaking his head, Daniel quickly objected, "Sir! Hold on! This is a mistake!"

"Save your pleading for the court," the officer snapped, gesturing at his subordinates to cuff Nicholas and Daniel, "You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law."

As the cuffs clicked into place around Nicholas and Daniel’s wrists, their protests turned to desperate pleas.

"This is a misunderstanding!"

"You’re humiliating us! Our lawyers—"

The officer waved his hand in one powerful swipe, his cold gaze beca frostier, "As I said, you can explain in court."

Two officers each guarded around Nicholas and Daniel, forcibly pulling them to follow their squad out of the room. The room remained still, the air thickened with disbelief.

The guests watched Nicholas and Daniel being taken away by the police. Their wrists were bound by the cold steel of the handcuffs.

Nicholas’ face paled as his mind rushed to think of the sudden turns of events. Disbelief and panic coursed through him as his eyes dilated.

He didn’t co here to be humiliated and apprehended like this!

This was so absurd!

What had gone wrong?

Nicholas played the events from the police’s first appearance in his mind as a sense of uneasiness gnawed his heart.

The Qin family’s bodyguards heavily guarded the clubhouse. How did the police squad storm in without any of the bodyguards reporting it beforehand?

...as if the police were easily granted entrance.

Wait.

Wait!

Wide-eyed in realization, Nicholas snapped his neck to the back, his gaze frantically looking for soone, or two, among the crowd.

Xander and Calix stood composed near the bar, an aura of calm amidst the chaos. The forr looked as stoic as usual, but the latter...

A faint, knowing smirk played on Calix’s lips, barely perceptible. He raised his glass with deliberate ease, tilting it slightly as his eyes were locked onto Nicholas’

As though toasting his downfall, Calix took a sip of his drink.

The gesture hit Nicholas like a physical blow, his eyes widening with a mix of disbelief and rage. His face contorted in anger.

Calix knew!

Calix knew what he was planning in the dark!

Damn!

"You!" Nicholas shouted, struggling against the officers’ grip, "You set this up! This is your doing!"

Nicholas’ clear show of anger unfazed Calix. His smirk deepened as he continued sipping his drink.

Ah~

How satisfying.

The officers tightened their hold, dragging Nicholas toward the exit. His protests grew louder but, his incoherent words made it hard for everyone to listen anymore.

Thud.

Nicholas, Daniel and the officers finally disappeared from the hall, leaving new questions to the guests. They looked at one another, whispering their curiosities.

"Who did he an by ’you’?"

"Haa... I didn’t expect this at all."

"Even the international police is involved? This isn’t a small case."

Their hushed whispers ended when Xander lightly tapped on the microphone, getting their attention. Holding the microphone over his lips, his voice echoed through the entire hall.

"The party was montarily disturbed. Don’t let it bother you. Enjoy the rest of the night."

Xander offered no explanation for what had just transpired. He also didn’t ntion anything that pointed to the police’s sudden appearance and Nicholas’ and Daniel’s arrest.

The man’s aning was clear.

No one should speak of the matter.

The jazz music resud playing, chasing the lingering tension away. The guests snapped themselves out of their daze as they restarted chatting and socializing.

Xander drifted his eyes to Calix, finding the smile of delight on his friend’s face. Clinking his glass on the one held by Calix, he said, "You’re satisfied, huh?"

"More than I expected," Calix chuckled. His eyes remained on the grand door where Nicholas disappeared, "The pest has been taken care of. I can’t be happier."

Xander nodded once, understanding that Calix was relieved now that everything was over. He glanced in a direction, looking at Ryken and Davin being surrounded by ladies.

"The party won’t end until midnight," Xander stated, his brows arching, "But, you’ll return ho soon, don’t you?"

"Yes. I want to tell Leslie about this myself."

Putting the empty glass on the bar, Calix grinned at Xander. He patted his friend’s back, showing his gesture of gratitude before walking away from him.

A smirk was drawn on Xander’s lips. He was also happy on behalf of his dear friend.
