As he should for he was not a clairvoyant or mind reader, Calix was thoroughly oblivious about the conflicts eating Xander from the inside. CEO Xu was preoccupied with his own matters.

After returning from the Xu family’s ancestral ho, Calix dived deeper into the sea of work. He wished to get everything important settled before the beach trip at the end of this month.

Ahhh!

He couldn’t wait ah!

Strolling at the beach with his beloved wife during sunset, swimming in the sea with his wife and daughter, showing off his six packs to seduce his wife and...

Hehe~ The surprise he arranged for her.

Of course, Calix wouldn’t ever forget about Calliope but, the romantic surprise was only for Leslie. He planned to bribe the little dumpling with sothing—more delicious food—to give them so private ti.

Those lovely imaginations kept Calix high in spirits. Yet, when the new details about Nicholas Wu reached him, his spirits cracked.

Throughout the two weeks leading up to the trip, Calix’s team managed to procure more information about that man. The diggings were done as discreetly as possible.

And...

Those details shocked Calix.

One afternoon—a few days before the trip—inside the CEO’s office.

The dazzling sunlight perated through the floor-to-ceiling windows, signifying another bright sumr day. But, the atmosphere inside the office was saturated with uneasiness.

As Edward stood opposite the huge work desk, Calix read the newly dug information about Nicholas. His full attention was on the tablet screen displaying those facts.

"CodeCatalyst... This is his company?"

Calix hadn’t heard of the company before. One of the reasons was that Xu International didn’t venture into the tech field.

Edward quickly answered Calix, "Yes. Mr. Wu co-founded this tech company with his long-ti friend who he t in Europe. They had just relocated to China. You can see their photos on the next page."

Swiping on the screen, Calix did as Edward told him. The photos showed not only Nicholas but, also a familiar face he never expected to see there, knocking the breath out of him.

"This man..." Calix tilted up his chin, abruptly looking at Edward, "This man is his partner?"

"Yes, Boss," Edward nodded, sensing sothing was off from Calix’s question. He asked cautiously, "Do you know him? The partner, I an. Mr. Daniel Yan."

"...I do."

The realization robbed Calix of his speech. Frowning, doubts coursed through his veins as he returned his eyes to the screen.

In those photos, Nicholas was captured alongside the man Calix first t in Ro[01], Mr. Yan. The sa one he bumped into at the airport upon his return from Switzerland early this month.

The photos showed the two n, Nicholas and Mr. Yan, during their younger days at a university, alongside when they took up leadership roles for CodeCatalyst.

Needless to say, one could tell Nicholas and Mr. Yan were good friends from those photos.

"...how could this be?" muttered Calix, incredulity tainting his shaky voice before he added with a sharp tone, "They are... making fools out of us!"

Edward barely caught the words slipping out from Calix’s lips. He repeated his previous question, "Boss Xu, do you know him? I an, Mr. Daniel Yan?"

Exhaling a heavy sigh, Calix put down the tablet. His darkened gaze lingered on Edward’s face before closing his eyes, intending to smoothen the raging turbulence in his heart.

"I t him for the first ti in Ro."

Under Edward’s inquisitive gaze mixed with concern, Calix explained further. He ntioned being greeted by Mr. Yan during Mr. Nucci’s banquet before once again, crossing paths with him just a few weeks ago.

Edward froze, not expecting Calix’s story about Mr. Yan at all.

This sounded too coincidental. But! This was not one at all!

Everything was disguised as a coincidence.

Edward’s worries overtook his previous curiosity. In a low voice, he expressed his views, "Mr. Yan approached you. I don’t believe it was all a coincidence. He deliberately showed himself to you."

"I think so too now," Calix nodded, feeling overwheld by this sudden revelation, "Mr. Yan ntioned about founding the company with his friend. That friend is Nicholas."

If not for these recent findings about Nicholas, Calix wouldn’t ever expect Mr. Yan to be closely related to the forr. Most likely Mr. Yan knew Nicholas’ plan to ss with the Xu family.

Edward refrained from sighing. He couldn’t help but feel how fortunate his boss learned Nicholas’ identity before it was too late.

"Boss Xu, you should continue reading," Edward gestured at the tablet, "There’s sothing that will surprise you more."

Edward had read all the information about Nicholas before coming to see Calix. So of those facts ghosted shivers down his spine.

Intrigued by Edward’s nudging, Calix returned to his reading. He wondered what kind of details surprised the forr.

"...they were involved with a gang?"

"Yes," Edward quickly replied before adding, "Mr. Wu and Mr. Yan were forr mbers of a gang in their previous neighborhood abroad. Even though the gang was small, the rival ones were afraid of the two n."

The information about Nicholas and Mr. Yan being in a mob was still vague. The gang was disbanded around five years ago. The investigation team was still working hard to extract more details about it.

Frustration took over Calix because of the lack of information about Nicholas’ days in the mob. He wondered if the latter’s desperation led him to join such a gang.

After hearing about Nicholas and his mother’s life from Mr. Guan, Calix felt sorry for the man. He was very young when he was dragged into this ss.

But...

Calix’s empathy for the young Nicholas only ended there. He wouldn’t ever forgive the latter for trying to hurt his loved ones because of Nicholas’ misplaced anger.

The extent of Nicholas’ plan against the Xu family hadn’t been discovered. Still, Calix wouldn’t hesitate to apply the harshest punishnt toward the man.

"Make sure our team digs everything about his involvent with the gang," Calix instructed after reaching the last page of the online docunt, "We need as much concrete evidence against him as possible."

"Understood, Boss Xu."

Edward hurriedly left the office, leaving a distraught Calix behind.
