But, getting the definite answer from Mimo wasn’t Leslie’s main focus for now. She felt better after talking to Calix, including knowing how he regarded the uncanny dreams he had been having.

Instead of being repulsive, he actually welcod them.

"It’s getting late. We can talk later if there’s anything... else," Leslie gently patted the back of Calix’s right hand, her lips smiling, "You have an early flight tomorrow."

Sharing the sa opinion as Leslie, Calix nodded, "Yeah, let’s do that."

Leslie’s smile softened at the sight of Calix’s relieved countenance. He looked exceptionally better than before as if the rest of his lingering worries had faded completely.

Calix and Leslie left the balcony, returning to the warmth of the ho office. Before heading out to the hallway, he stored the face sketches inside the drawer.

"You can take them out if you wanna see them again," said Calix while pushing the drawer back to its position.

"Thank you, Calix."

Leslie was grateful for Calix’s offer. She indeed had the intention to do so when he was on his business trip. There were a few things she wanted to look into regarding this issue.

Calix and Leslie finally left the ho office. The entire manor was quiet, save for the white noises. They went to Calliope’s bedroom, intending to check on their little daughter.

As always, Calliope slept while kicking the blanket randomly. Calix and Leslie stifled their laughter when the little dumpling suddenly slept talk before they left.

"En... Leslie."

Calix quietly called Leslie after closing the door of Calliope’s bedroom. Tilting her chin up, she caught the sight of his sheepish smile. Sothing in it fluttered her heart.

"What is it?"

Calix let out nervous chuckles. His cheeks had faint traces of blush as he suggested, "Well... if it’s okay with you, can we sleep in my room tonight?"

Calix’s suggestion amused Leslie. He had never proposed such a thing before. Even when they had Calliope sleeping with them, the venue was usually her bedroom.

"Won’t it be my first ti sleeping in your room, Mr. Xu?" asked Leslie with a hint of teasing.

"Yes. So, I wonder if Mrs. Xu will grant this honor," Calix scratched one side of his face. An awkward smile was still hanging on his lips.

"Hehe, it’s my pleasure..."

Calix pushed Leslie’s wheelchair inside her bedroom first as she wanted to get ready before bed. He quietly waited in the seating area, his heart pounding heavily against his chest.

They wouldn’t be doing anything ah, really. He just wished to sleep with her—his beloved wife—in his own bedroom.

’Should I suggest she move into my room? But... she might still wanna have her own space.’

Shaking his head, Calix pushed the thoughts to the back of his mind. Despite having the desire to share the sa bedroom with Leslie as how most husbands and wives did, he didn’t think this was the perfect ti for it.

’Nah. I need to get closer to her first. I’ve just started courting her.’

Grinning cheekily, Calix reminded himself to be patient. Leslie had been showing positive signs toward his approaches but, their feelings were not on the sa rhythm yet.

Perhaps.

"You’re smiling like a boy ah."

Leslie’s voice pulled Calix out of his daydream. He laughed nervously while standing up from the couch before rushing to her. She slowly walked out of the washroom.

"You think I smile like a boy?" asked Calix. He held one of Leslie’s hands while his other arm wrapped around her waist.

"It’s cute," Leslie chuckled as she smiled aningfully at Calix, "Or, do you dislike it when I call you cute?"

"No! Never ah," Calix abruptly shook his head. He followed Leslie heading to her wheelchair, "My wife calls cute, not other won."

Leslie burst out laughing. She playfully slapped Calix’s arm, earning chuckles from him. The husband and wife made their way to the bedroom down the hallway.

Leslie had been in Calix’s bedroom before but, she rarely stayed for long. She never thought she would spend a night sleeping here.

Leaning against the headboard of the bed, Leslie swept her gaze across the powder blue bedroom with white accents. She loved the simple color choices and decorations that helped alleviate the coziness of this chamber.

’He’ll be gone in a few hours.’

The thought crossed Leslie’s mind once she saw the olive green suitcase Aunt Wendy packed earlier today for Calix. The travel luggage stood inside the walk-in closet. She saw it because the doors were opened.

Calix would be away for four days. Leslie couldn’t help but feel weird about it, most likely because she was used to his constant presence.

Leslie was unsure how this revelation would influence her heart. She rembered how she didn’t want to treat Calix as a substitute just because he possessed similarities to Axel.

It turned out, they might be the sa person.

But...

’Will this be fair for Calix? Will I just love him because of Axel? I don’t want that.’

As Leslie was imrsed in her thoughts, Calix quietly walked out of the washroom. Pausing in his tracks, his eyes lingered on Leslie.

Only the table lamps brightened the bedroom because the main lights were switched off already. The glow illuminated the lady lying on the bed.

Calix couldn’t describe how relieved he was after finally opening up to Leslie about his uncanny dreams. He was glad with himself for going through with his plan tonight.

Leslie’s understanding and acceptance also helped wash off the remaining of Calix’s concerns.

"You’re not sleeping yet?" asked Calix quietly.

Blinking, Leslie turned her head to the sound of Calix’s voice. Her eyes were aligned with his smiling ones. His towering shadow was cast on the wall behind him as he approached the bed.

"Oh... waiting for you," Leslie smiled, hoping she didn’t sound tense, "Co here. It’ll be midnight soon."

"Not in two hours ah."

Calix slid under the blanket before closing in toward Leslie. He gently cradled her in his arms. The sight of her smiling lips illuminated by the table lamps was reflected in his eyes.

"Good night, my sweetheart."

Calix chuckled once he saw Leslie’s eyes widening. Perhaps she didn’t see it coming.

"...good night, honey. Sleep well."

Leslie’s shaky whisper earned a kiss on the forehead from Calix. He didn’t see the gloss in her eyes.
