Chapter 953: Chapter 953: I’m Not Irreplaceable for You
"Are you admitting that you willingly accompanied Maxwell Saxon?" The latter part of the sentence was automatically ignored by Matthew Saxon, his mind solely focused on her earlier words.
When Maxwell told him these things, he didn’t believe it, thinking it was just an attempt to sow discord.
But now, with Scarlett Yates confessing to it, what else was there to say?
"Scarlett Yates, when you were repaying your so-called debt of gratitude, did you ever consider my feelings?" Matthew Saxon looked at the woman who had occupied his thoughts for so long with deep disappointnt.
If the person she was repaying wasn’t Maxwell Saxon, and if she hadn’t chosen such a ti, he might have understood her.
But she knew all too well the animosity between him and Maxwell, knew that Maxwell wanted to destroy the Saxon Family, yet she could laugh and talk with his enemy, they seed quite harmonious.
In her heart, what did he even count for?
Did she not care about his thoughts at all?
The more Matthew thought, the more disappointed he grew, and in a mont of anger, so words slipped out: "Scarlett Yates, if you really don’t want to marry , I won’t force you, everything will be as you wish."
"You’ve misunderstood , I never ant to say I don’t want to marry you."
The disappointnt in Matthew’s eyes felt like a dagger, making Scarlett Yates’ heartache.
She admitted, she lacked consideration.
At the ti, she hadn’t thought that her trip with Maxwell to the snowy mountains would be photographed by reporters.
She simply wanted to repay his kindness as quickly as possible.
She thought no one would find out about this, treating it as just completing a task, with the hope that once her task was done, Maxwell would leave.
She wanted to explain, but Matthew’s gaze looked as if he had already sentenced her with no chance for appeal.
"Scarlett Yates, I like you, which is why I’m willing to let you trample on my self-esteem, but that doesn’t an I’ll tolerate you indefinitely."
In a mont of extre anger, he lost reason and said sothing he would later regret deeply: "You should know, I’m not dependent on you alone."
Words of explanation reached her lips, but Scarlett felt there was no point in speaking them.
He had just said, he wasn’t dependent on her alone.
It felt as if soone had poured ice water over her heart, instantly chilling her to the core.
The cold pierced through her flesh, leaving her heart aching with each contraction.
Her face, already sickly, turned pale, then gloomy.
She bowed her head, a bitter smile on her lips, and said softly, "Yes, you are the distinguished young master of a noble family, many girls dream of marrying you, I... I am nothing."
"What do you an by that?" Matthew frowned, "You did sothing to wrong , and you’re blaming ?"
Scarlett’s voice dropped even lower: "Yes, it’s my fault, I shouldn’t have attended Maxwell’s birthday, I’m sorry, I didn’t consider your feelings, it’s my fault."
"The way you say that, it sounds like I’m forcing you to admit guilt." Matthew had been holding in this frustration for a long ti.
From the mont he saw that news article, he had bottled up his feelings until now.
Hearing her respond with a voice full of grievance and sadness made him increasingly uncomfortable, his sole focus on venting his anger: "If you really like Maxwell Saxon, there’s still ti to back out now, I won’t stop you. I heard he’s leaving Z City with May Denton tomorrow, if you want to leave with him, I can arrange it."
