Chapter 789: Chapter 67: Contact, Conflict (6000-word rger)_3

Tie Lin patted Wang Anfeng on the shoulder and, uncharacteristically, said sothing along the lines of a good deduction. He then leaped into the air, closely following Wuxin, and took off in big strides. Wang Anfeng exhaled a harsh breath, since the tense situation had just passed, and there were actually fine beads of sweat on his forehead.

He looked up at the north, ignoring the shopkeeper’s curses, landed on the roof of the inn, and bolted, following the two governnt enforcers. He had planned to search on his own after leaving Xingde District, but changed his mind after seeing Wuxin bring out a complete map of Liangzhou’s district market.

In the entire world, there were only twenty-eight Capital City enforcers, corresponding to the twenty-eight constellations. If one retired, another would join in, but there never was a twenty-ninth.

These people were the best in the world at tracking down the faintest of clues, certainly much stronger than an outsider like him. The sensation that had begun to fade was gradually dissipating, so at this mont, he had no choice but to rely on their abilities.

The thoughts in his mind disappeared in an instant. Wang Anfeng’s face was wooden, just like the honest youth he had appeared to be earlier, as he maintained his pace behind the two enforcers. After sprinting, he deliberately slowed down, pretending to be a cultivator of insufficient ability, barely able to keep up with the two n.

He had only suggested that the place might be to the north, but the two Capital City enforcers in front seed to know exactly where to look. At most they would stop to discuss briefly, then they shot forward straight as crossbow bolts, heading directly forward.

By the ti the two n finally stopped, the three of them had reached a corner of the northern district market. This place wasn’t far from the entertainnt spots, but the bystanders mostly watched the plays across the street, with few paying attention to this side.

Wang Anfeng realized this would make a perfect hiding spot.

There was a fully ard Martial Soldier on the roof of the inn across the street. Tie Lin jumped from this side’s roof to the other’s, and after asking the Martial Soldier so question, his face showed a dawning realization. He then turned to glance at Wuxin and gave a slight nod.

Before Wang Anfeng understood what was happening, the enforcer leapt down from the roof of the inn, landing heavily on the street, causing the surrounding people to cry out. When they saw the hand crossbow at his waist, they retreated several steps.

Tie Lin walked straight towards a house diagonally across the street.

Wang Anfeng watched the corner, his heartbeat gradually accelerating, though his expression beca more composed. The sensation that had been fading was now intensifying.

The house must be the one.

Tie Lin walked up to the door of that narrow and small house in this bustling area with high property values, mostly occupied by rchants and banks. This one looked easy to mistake for the grain shop next door. The Capital City enforcer, radiating a chill aura, approached the door, his left hand resting back on his waist, gripping the black Mo Family hand crossbow, and with a heavy hand pounded on the wooden door, producing a resounding thud, and called out cheerily:

“Fellow villagers, fellow villagers.”

“Would you kindly open the door? I’m a fire-extinguishing officer from the Yu Departnt, ordered to inspect the road and buildings, just to check and prevent any water damage.”

“Fellow villagers?”

A long silence ensued within the house, then an elderly voice said:

“Fire-extinguishing officer? Why haven’t there been any before…”

Tie Lin continued with the sa robust voice:

“Every year during the Mid-Autumn Festival and Lantern Festival, there are checks. Maybe you’ve forgotten… just open the door, there are several more places I need to inspect after this…”

Again, there was silence inside, followed by approaching footsteps – the person inside apparently believed Tie Lin’s story.

Tie Lin kept talking, his voice cheerful and amiable, while his eyes held a cold intent.

In his left hand, he gripped the Mo Family chanical crossbow tightly, with his thumb and forefinger ready on the suspended knife trigger, one pull away from releasing the Mo Family’s crossbow bolts.

After the death of the great master of the Mo Family, it largely split into three groups. This was the work of Qin Mo, firing using a Martial Artist’s Inner Qi at short distances, the bolts were covert and incredibly powerful.

The wooden door opened, and what spilled out was an overturned copper fire basin, with red-hot coals scattering out at a frightening speed and montum. Following closely, a grey-haired old man wielding a short dagger with a fierce expression lunged forth.

“Fire-extinguishing officer? Extinguish your own fire!”

Tie Lin was prepared, acting later but striking first. He raised the chanical crossbow in his hand and in an instant, discharged all five bolts, then threw it to the ground. His right hand knocked the hilt of his Thin Sword from its sheath, which, like a silver streak, darted out and knocked away the dagger.

The Thin Sword changed moves in a breath, piercing through the assailant’s shoulder, pinning him against the wall. Simultaneously, Tie Lin quickly withdrew, rolled on the ground, and picked up the chanical crossbow he had thrown. His right hand, sohow already carrying five new crossbow bolts, loaded them into the crossbow.

Just as he retreated, multiple beams of Sword Qi lashed out from the house, slicing the walls and also injuring the old man, covering him in blood.

He fired the bolts from the hand crossbow again, then casually discarded the Mo Family treasure on the ground. Drawing a slightly shorter Waist Saber, he stepped out, and from both sides of the little house, two figures broke through the walls and charged out. As soon as they erged, they hurled a flurry of Hidden Weapons, targeting the bystanders all around.

Wuxin, who had been waiting on the opposing rooftop, acted almost in the sa instant they broke through. His blades shattered the Hidden Weapons, which grazed the rooftops on both sides and shot into the sky. At the sa ti, Tie Lin cursed under his breath and withdrew from the scene, charging at the man on the left.
