Mu Yunchu did not disregard what Xiao Yun ntioned about the situation.

The reason being, that very evening, she witnessed the servant, who thought she was clever for being lazy and not buying fresh flowers, being dismissed.

The person involved wept and pleaded, hoping for another chance.

"Third Madam, I truly made a mistake, please, give another chance."

"I really cannot do without this job!"

"Third Madam..."

...

It was already the rainy season, and in the afternoon, it began pouring heavily again. She stood at the doorway, her piercing cries echoed throughout the Pei Mansion. No matter what the housekeeper at the door said, she refused to leave.

Because leaving here, it would be very difficult for her to find a job with such a high salary again.

Others, evidently aware of the situation, dared not to keep her despite knowing that the Third Madam had spoken. They could only give her sympathetic looks.

The old housekeeper held an umbrella, letting her stand in the rain, with no intention of conceding, yet he persuaded, "You know the Third Madam’s temperant, even if you stand here all night, she won’t change her mind."

Although ordinarily gentle, the Third Madam had a resilience within her. Once she decided sothing, she wouldn’t change her mind.

But that person simply couldn’t listen.

Grabbing the old housekeeper’s sleeve, she was almost on her knees.

"Housekeeper, help , I beg you, plead with the Third Madam on my behalf!"

The old housekeeper sighed, looking helpless and unwilling, "I’ve told you before, although the Third Madam is kind and easy to talk to, there’s one thing she values greatly. That’s her bottom line."

If that bottom line is crossed, not even Third Master Pei could intervene.

Hearing this, the servant lost all hope. Slowly letting go, she left in despair.

The old housekeeper shook his head, just in ti to et Mu Yunchu’s gaze from a short distance away.

He started, then nodded slightly in greeting.

"Miss Mu, out in such heavy rain."

"I saw you seed to have so trouble, so I ca out to look," Mu Yunchu didn’t hide it, directly saying she was drawn out by their conversation.

For soone with such shrewdness, lying was unnecessary.

Rather, it might arouse suspicion.

"Ah... nothing much." The old housekeeper indeed didn’t think much of it. "Just that the flowers for Third Madam’s offerings are gone."

"So..."

He glanced in the direction of the dismissed servant. The outco was already obvious.

Mu Yunchu had heard Xiao Yun ntion that afternoon. The Third Madam was very devout in her Buddhist beliefs and valued the offerings greatly.

Unexpectedly, failing to buy flowers resulted in the servant’s imdiate dismissal.

The old housekeeper seed not too keen on staying alone with Mu Yunchu for long, "Miss Mu, if there’s nothing else, I’ll head back inside."

Mu Yunchu nodded.

The sound of raindrops splattering on the umbrella was so loud, it seed to drown out all other sounds around them.

However, just as she was about to head back inside, two figures suddenly erged from the mansion.

One was dressed as a servant, while the other, wearing very plain attire, appeared to be about fifty years old.

At the sight of her, Mu Yunchu imdiately matched her image to the so-called Third Madam she had visualized in her mind.

But whether it was the heavy rain or her thoughts, she didn’t seem to notice Mu Yunchu as she ca out.

Watching her anxious deanor and her hurry to go out despite the rain, Mu Yunchu’s curiosity was piqued. With her right hand, she drew an imaginary talisman, transmitting their conversation into her ears.

"Madam, why don’t I go by myself in this rain? I fear your body may not bear it..."

"It’s alright, if I don’t go myself, I won’t feel assured."

"But..."

"We’ll just go to the backyard, it’ll be quick, there won’t be any trouble in such a short ti."

...

Mu Yunchu watched their backs heading towards the backyard.

What could possibly be so important that it compelled the Third Madam, who even for als wouldn’t usually step out, to brave the heavy rain and leave.
