Chapter 666: Chapter 25: I’m Waiting for News Too

No aning at all?

Upon hearing this, Lair stood in place in a daze for quite a while until the envoy leading the way noticed sothing amiss. He turned back with slight confusion and asked, “Is there a problem?” It was only then that Lair snapped back to reality.

“No, nothing.” Lair quickly caught up, “I was just a bit curious.”

The envoy wasn’t a fool either. Seeing Lair repeatedly asking about the Isolation Zone and even knowing about those abandoned villages, he could naturally sense sothing was off, but he didn’t inquire imdiately, rely giving Lair a aningful glance.

Lair could naturally feel that the envoy was already suspicious of him, which made him panic even more, not for fear of the envoy but out of fear of Lord Visas inside him.

His uncontrollable barrage of self-destructive questions just now was noticeable even to this envoy, so how could he even hope to deceive Lord Visas?

Thinking of this, Lair imdiately begged in his heart, “Lord Visas, actually I am…”

“If you’re about to say you’re also from the No-man’s Land, it’s unnecessary.” Bai Wei said leisurely, “I’ve never been interested in soone’s past; I’m more concerned about the future, do you understand?”

Lair instantly breathed a sigh of relief, then nodded repeatedly, “Rest assured, Lord Visas, I will definitely be your most loyal pawn!”

Truly, Lord Visas was generous, so much so that Lair couldn’t help but think, “Even if Lord Visas ordered to die now, I wouldn’t say a word of complaint.”

Of course, this thought only lasted a fleeting mont.

The two continued walking forward, and soon, the villagers noticed these two outsiders and hurriedly ca forward with apprehension.

Leading them was an old man, frail as a walking skeleton, and those relatively younger standing beside him weren’t any better. At a glance, you’d think those breeding pairs in the Holy Sound Seed Zone were doing well by comparison.

“M-Master Angel!” The old man bowed respectfully to the envoy walking in the front, “We didn’t know you’d co today, we, we…”

The envoy gave a slight “hmm” and walked past the old man without any intent of explanation, which made the villagers even more terrified, unsure if they had triggered these angels.

Lair also glanced a few tis at the villagers, then quickly caught up and continued questioning the envoy at Bai Wei’s behest, “Why do they call you an angel?”

“Because, in their eyes, we co from the heavens,” the envoy pointed upward and said indifferently, “The people here don’t leave the Isolation Zone, not even their village. They don’t know the outside world, or the Eight Great Churches, so to them all outsiders are from the heavens and are thus called angels.”

“Don’t they ever think about leaving?” Lair asked (still Bai Wei’s question), “Or to see the outside world?”

“Of course not.” The envoy said calmly, “No one here thinks about going out.”

Lair opened his mouth but said nothing.

anwhile, Bai Wei, listening nearby, had already pieced together most of it, realizing it’s still the ntal imprint.

In this world, the influence of deities on mortals’ thinking is almost a foundational logic. Examples are Rhein’s altered sexual orientation, the order engraved by Lyra, and the Holy Sound people’s note transformation. Here, it seems to be a restriction on their own behavior.

The outside world is dangerous; staying put forever is the right thing.

From this point of view, though the Contract Land doesn’t have explicit deities, it still possesses thought-imprinting techniques comparable to those Churches with stationed deities. It’s no wonder they have a weapon like “Heavenly Voice Obedience,” as it essentially targets cognitive recognition; thus, the underlying requirent for “Heavenly Voice Obedience” is that the target must be a believer of deities.

As long as you believe in or use the power of any deity, you would be imprinted with a ntal mark, differing only in the deity’s respective imprint.

In other words, only those who completely don’t believe in or rely on deities’ power are unaffected by ntal imprints.

Unfortunately, no such person exists in this world; even the No-man’s Land without explicit deities can’t escape.

As Bai Wei was thinking, Lair once again asked the envoy, “Why did those villages you ntioned get forgotten? Aren’t they under your Contract Land’s jurisdiction?”

“I’ve said it before, because the Isolation Zone is too vast.” The envoy said indifferently, “We’re not constantly watching, after all, the Isolation Zone has existed for a thousand years.”

“Then why haven’t you thought of bringing them back?”

“Why do that?”

Lair was again speechless.

Before Lair could ask another question, the envoy seed to have exhausted his patience. He looked into Lair’s eyes and spoke slowly, “Alright, there are no outsiders here, so you don’t have to worry about leaks or eavesdropping, and I won’t beat around the bush anymore. Mr. Lais, you… are ‘the Tongue,’ correct?”

… The Tongue?

Lair blinked, not understanding what the envoy ant, what did he an by saying he was ‘the Tongue’?
