Chapter 647: Lair’s Past_2
And is Lord Visas really sleeping?
Lair couldn’t help but think of other “angel envoys” that Bai Wei had ntioned earlier. His thoughts drifted again, pondering if Lord Visas truly had other angel envoys at this ti, then how did he communicate with them? Could it be the sa way he communicates with him?
Could it be that Lord Visas uses corpse blocks as a dium, shifting his consciousness back and forth?
Lair felt this speculation was a bit far-fetched, but on second thought, the fact that Lord Visas could still be alive after being dismbered defied common sense.
Well, whatever, he might as well stop making wild guesses. What could he deduce with his level? At least he knew that Lord Visas wasn’t constantly watching him, which allowed him to relax a little.
…Yes, Lord Visas is indeed not here now.
Lair suddenly thought of sothing, and then instinctively glanced in a certain direction in Naless Town, feeling an itch in his heart.
Lord Visas only said he couldn’t leave Naless Town or make early contact with that old man from the Star Relic, so perhaps other things didn’t matter?
With that thought, Lair made up his mind, then imdiately left and arrived at a rundown house on the other side of Naless Town, knocking on the door.
An old male voice sounded from inside, “Who are you looking for? State the na and identity, and I’ll quote the price accordingly.”
Hearing this voice, Lair didn’t linger at the door and pushed the door open directly.
Amid the swirling dust, he saw an emaciated old man sitting in the corner of the room, looking at him with squinted eyes.
“Oh?” The old man spoke with slight surprise, “It’s actually you.”
“It’s .” Lair swaggered in, “Didn’t expect, did you?”
“Heh, indeed I didn’t expect.” The old man said blandly, “What is a small Copper rchant like you doing running to the headquarters? Is this a place for you? Do you want to lead you to big business? Wait until you get promoted to Silver rchant first.”
“Don’t underestimate .” Lair proudly took out two Contract Seeds from his pocket and waved them in front of the old man, “Look at what these are?”
The originally desolate-looking old man beca interested upon seeing the golden Contract Seeds, “Oh? Where did you get them, the headquarters? My goodness, stolen from the headquarters and brought to to fence them off? Not bad, not bad, I have high hopes for you, hand them over and let check their quality.”
“Fence your head!” Lair said unhappily, “What stolen, I’m a Gold rchant reserve now!”
“Gold rchant reserve?” The old man stared blankly at Lair, “With just you?”
“Heh, that’s why I say you’re an old undying fool.” Lair sharply mocked the old man, “Your judgnt is so poor, no wonder you’re getting nowhere.”
The old man’s na was Harlow, and he was Lair’s guide into the Black rchant trade and the one who brought him into the “normal world.”
Yes, Lair’s hotown was sowhat special. He didn’t belong to any of the current Eight Great Churches but ca from the No-man’s Land.
No-man’s Land is an extrely peculiar place, shrouded in mist all year round. Even in the best weather, it’s hard to see the horizon. But those living there don’t think there’s anything wrong and believe the world is naturally like that, including Lair.
His village had only a few hundred people, and like the majority of the villagers, he had a normal life—married, had children, and it was foreseeable that his latter half of life wouldn’t change.
Until one day, a man nad Harlow ca to their village and brought news of the “outside world.”
The outside world was a fantasy to everyone in the village, including Lair. He couldn’t imagine the world Harlow described, a world without mist, where the sky was blue, a world with magic and machinery beyond farming tools and livestock.
But he just couldn’t imagine it, while the villagers couldn’t believe it.
So Harlow asked Lair if he wanted to follow him to the outside world to see a different life.
At the ti, Lair hesitated only briefly, then resolutely abandoned his newly delivered wife and his son still in swaddling clothes, and followed Harlow on the road out of the mountains.
Five years have passed since then.
Even now, at the first sight of Harlow, the scene of that day still flashes in Lair’s mind, and the desperate cries of his wife and the instinctive wails of his son echo in his ears.
And he did see the new world and got a new life.
It’s just a pity that this new life was not as he imagined. The world was prosperous but had nothing to do with him.
Harlow did bring him out and taught him so things, making him a Black rchant, but that was it. After all, Harlow was just a Silver rchant himself, and engaged in the least profitable and the most laborious “ssenger” business. Harlow couldn’t even take on the truly lucrative business, so Lair could only start as the lowest level Copper rchant, and after five years, there was no improvent, almost losing his life.
“You should take with you if you have a good deal!” Harlow sat up straight, staring fixedly at Lair, “I was the one who brought you out! Don’t you forget that!”
“That was only because I wasn’t part of the Eight Great Sects, so there were no taboos.” Lair rcilessly exposed Harlow.
