Chapter 42: Thirty-six Alright, let do it
Kelsay was furious.
Because he hadn’t been in such a sorry state for a long ti—half of his armor had been blasted to bits, revealing the bloody, flesh-torn body beneath. It wasn’t that he hadn’t suffered injuries of this caliber before, but in the past, those capable of wounding him were either the leaders of Esoteric Buddhism or madn wielding Taboo items, all extrely dangerous entities.
But Ulu wasn’t among them, although he too possessed a Taboo item. He hadn’t even used it yet, managing to wound Kelsay solely with his own power.
Just with his own strength.
That was what Kelsay couldn’t accept. While he was busy taunting Ulu, the bastard kept casting spells without pause, hiding the explosive fog within the dust, and before Kelsay could react, detonated it, severely injuring him. This contrast made Kelsay, the Knight Master, seem less competent in battle.
“You bastard…” Before Kelsay could finish, Ulu rushed in front of him, fist held high.
...
This guy, he even dared to attack him head-on!
The rage in Kelsay’s heart continued to rise; he wished he could crush Ulu to death right there and then, but he couldn’t, as his wounds were worse than Ulu’s. The intense pain gnawed at his nerves, and his injured half wasn’t fully operational yet, so he could only defend with the other half.
But speaking of defense, Kelsay had a sword in hand. The mont he lifted his arm, he grasped the hilt. For a knight of his rank, there was no such thing as a dominant hand, so he slashed straight at Ulu.
If Ulu dared to charge recklessly, Kelsay was confident he could cause him severe damage—even if he couldn’t decapitate Ulu, he could at least cut off one of his hands.
But just as Ulu closed in on the sword edge, his body suddenly stuttered.
Scared?
Kelsay thought instinctively.
Wait, that’s not right, his hand…it’s forming a seal!
Kelsay abruptly lowered his head and saw a layer of “dust” at his feet that hadn’t dispersed.
“Bang!”
The fog ignited again, and although Kelsay’s reaction was quicker this ti, he still wasn’t fast enough. The explosion destroyed the armor on his lower body and left several bloody wounds on his legs.
The insect that Kelsay looked down upon had injured him again.
What the hell was going on?!
Kelsay did recognize Ulu’s spell—quite well, in fact. It was called “Fog Barrier Karma Fire,” a spell that involved the caster initially creating a layer of fog, which was then ignited to cause an explosive, damaging attack. It was a First Rank spell that approached interdiate-level damage, but its weakness was quite apparent; the fog must be cast and then ignited.
aning it was a damage-delayed spell, and given the slow dispersion of the fog, anyone without a disability in their legs could easily avoid it. Therefore, within the Church, it was regarded as a “flashy but useless” spell, but due to its low difficulty level, a large number of lower clergy knew it.
Before this, Kelsay never imagined he would get hurt by such a spell.
Yet this guy, through a series of maneuvers, had severely injured him—during the first use of this spell, he had planned to collapse the house, subsequently hiding the fog within the resulting dust.
And when he detonated it a second ti, he had deliberately left so undetonated, just waiting for this third chance.
These strategies and plans didn’t seem like sothing a non-combatant Priest could concoct.
Who the hell taught him?!
Understanding Ulu’s maneuvers, Kelsay was both furious and astounded, but at this point, there wasn’t ti for him to think any further. All around him was the fog, making it impossible to discern which was real or fake. Seeing Ulu not far away starting another seal, Kelsay couldn’t care less anymore; he began casting at the sa ti.
A ring of airflow appeared beneath his feet and quickly exploded, with him at its center, creating an outward-blasting wind, instantly clearing the miscellaneous objects around him, including the lingering fog.
“Rhein Wind Pressure!”
This was the perfect counter to “Fog Barrier Karma Fire.” Once the fog was blown away, there was no chance for Ulu to use that spell again!
Previously, Kelsay never felt Ulu was worthy enough to force him to use spells, that a sword alone would suffice to kill the vermin, but now…
“Huh”!
Suddenly, soone dashed through the wind.
Kelsay abruptly looked up to find Ulu’s fist already close at hand.
While the wind pressure blew away spells, it couldn’t blow away a person, especially one already maddened by fury.
Thus, that punch landed squarely on Kelsay’s face, nearly crushing his nose bridge.
But it didn’t end there. Just as Kelsay tried to counter, another punch ca crashing down. At the sa ti, Ulu’s entire body lunged forward, pinning him underneath.
Then it was punch after punch after punch.
This didn’t resemble a battle between mage and knight; it was the most primitive of brawls, where the only weapons were their fists against one another.
Ulu, like a man gone mad, roared as he hamred more punches onto Kelsay’s face. Kelsay wanted to fight back, but it had been too long since he’d experienced such low-quality combat. No sword to grab, no spells to chant, no seals to make, only his fists to rely on.
So, he could only be beaten, beaten, and beaten again.
Bloody-faced and utterly shad, he couldn’t stand up because Ulu was pressing down on him.
And in the past, their positions had been reversed.
Watching the one who could only be pinned by him now wreaking havoc atop him, Kelsay felt overwheld by another surge of emotion after a brief mont of stupefaction.
It was humiliation, and anger.
How dare you.
How dare you.
How dare you?!
You damned insect, how dare you?!
With a “bang,” a Holy Light descended from the sky, landing upon Kelsay.
At the sa ti, Ulu heard Kelsay’s suppressed and fierce shout, “Rhein”!
Then a powerful force repelled Ulu.
Kelsay’s wounds quickly healed within this Holy Light, allowing him to stand up, grab his sword, and stare intensely at Ulu, who lay aside, nearly exhausted.
It never occurred to him that Ulu could force him into “Blessing Mode.”
This was a power only the core clergy of Rhein could master, the power of the Rhein God.
Kelsay never thought he’d use this power against Ulu. Because to enter this mode ant that—he himself had lost. On his own, he couldn’t defeat Ulu, couldn’t defeat this insect he’d always looked down upon.
That ant…
“No, no, it’s not like that,” Kelsay shook his head repeatedly, muttering, “You just ambushed , took advantage when I was unprepared, just… damn it, how could an insect like you be stronger than ?!!!”
Kelsay picked up the Holy Sword, rushing recklessly towards Ulu.
He’s just a worm, just a worm, a worm that I’ll crush and chop to pieces at any mont!
Kelsay charged in front of Ulu, lifting his sword towards Ulu’s head.
Ulu had reached his limit and couldn’t dodge, but he also finally heard the voice he’d been longing for.
“Alright.”
“Let do it.”
