Magic Cylinder!
The most famous damage-reflecting trap, legendary for its use by the original King of Gas. For Kira to pull out Magic Cylinder at such a critical mont had even the students in the audience standing up in surprise.
"Bladedge’s attack is negated, and you take damage equal to its ATK," Kira said. "In other words, the attack is reflected!"
"Knew you’d have a trap ready. Then—"
Jaden narrowed his eyes, raising his arm.
"I activate my set card—Counter Trap ’Protection of the Elents!’ Until the end of the turn, I can banish an Elental HERO on my field to negate and destroy an opponent’s Spell or Trap activation!"
This was also a trap Jaden used in the manga.
"I banish ’Elental HERO Bladedge’—’Magic Cylinder’ is negated and destroyed!"
Bladedge temporarily left the field, and Magic Cylinder shattered in golden light.
Syrus wiped his brow: "Phew, that was close—at least he blocked it."
"This is a duel where you can’t let your guard down for even a second," Chumley said.
"Can’t believe he couldn’t get the attack through again—Kirajust never gives an inch."
Jaden laughed. "Then, I activate the Continuous Spell ’Mirage of Nightmare!’
During your Standby Phase, I draw until I have four cards. But in my turn, I randomly discard the sa number of cards I drew."
"Real discard or fake?" Kira smiled.
So far, he’d never seen anyone actually discard for real.
"Who knows," Jaden grinned. "I set three cards to my back row and end my turn."
A golden glow appeared on his field, a whirlpool of ti and space opening. The shining hero dropped from the vortex, returning to his field.
"’Protection of the Elents’ returns the banished HERO to my field at the end of the turn," Jaden said. "Co back, Bladedge!"

Kira: "Alright, my turn, draw."
"Standby Phase—’Mirage of Nightmare’ activates. I draw until I have four cards." Jaden drew.
"At this mont, ’Appropriate’ also activates. Whenever my opponent draws outside the Draw Phase, I draw two."
Kira drew, then glanced at Jaden’s field.
With the ani effect, Skyscraper would also boost Bladedge’s ATK when attacked, aning it was effectively 3600. Even BLS couldn’t get through that.
"Then I activate ’Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning’s’ effect again," Kira said. "Once per turn, banish a monster on your field. I choose ’Elental HERO Bladedge.’
Chaos Dinsion Slash!"
The soldier’s blade swung, light and dark cleaving space toward the golden HERO.
"This is what I was waiting for." Jaden grinned, "Watch, Kira—my HEROes have infinite possibilities even without Fusion!
I activate my set card—Trap Card ’Edge Hamr!’
I tribute ’Elental HERO Bladedge’ to destroy a monster on your field, and you take damage equal to its original ATK!"
Another HERO-specific trap.
Jaden’s deck was full of these dedicated traps and HERO combos. When it worked, so of these combinations were actually really strong.
Like this one.
"I tribute Bladedge to destroy ’Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning!’ So, Kira, you take 3000 damage!"

"Sorry, Kira," Jaden smiled confidently. "Looks like I win!"
Bladedge, powered up by the trap, assembled a huge golden hamr and charged straight into BLS’s blade!
"Then I activate my set card," Kira said. "Trap Card—’Shift!’ When a monster on my field becos the target of an opponent’s Spell/Trap or attack, I can switch the target to another monster on my field!"
Silent Magician turned and nodded at Kira.
"I switch the target of ’Edge Hamr’ to ’Silent Magician!’" said Kira.
Jaden: "But you have five cards in hand—Silent Magician’s ATK rises by 500 for each, so she has 3500 ATK!"

"No," Kira smiled, "’Edge Hamr’ deals damage equal to the destroyed monster’s ’original’ ATK.
Silent Magician’s current ATK is 3500, but only her base ATK counts. So I only take her original ATK as damage..."
Boom!
The hamr smashed down, both the white-robed mage and golden HERO vanished in a storm of destruction.
"...which is 1000."
[Kira, LP 2800 → 1800]
"You’re strong, Kira," Jaden said, then laughed. "But now your Silent Magician is destroyed, and BLS already used its effect, so you can’t attack this turn."
"Maybe not," Kira chuckled. "Did you forget Silent Magician’s other ability?"
"Oh, right..."
Even though Bladedge was gone for good, when Silent Magician was destroyed, the released energy ford a white magic circle.
"When Silent Magician is destroyed by battle or card effect, I can Special Summon a ’Silent Magician’ monster other than herself from my hand or deck, ignoring Summoning conditions.
From the intersection of chaos and order, the light magician descends—
—Silent Magician LV8!"
A white silhouette spun from the magic circle, robes fluttering, staff twirling, silver hair billowing like a dream.

The students in the stands held their breath.
Now, with Bladedge tributed, Jaden’s field was empty.

In just a few seconds, Jaden’s finishing move beca Kira’s counterattack.
A complete reversal!
"Silent Magician LV8, direct attack!" Kira ordered.
White light gathered at the staff’s tip, a magic blast flying straight for Jaden.
"Then I activate my Trap—"
Jaden raised his hand and shouted,
"—A Hero Erges!"
