Ivy quickly transferred eight million to Jade Fisher’s account.

With Jade’s promise, she felt much calr in the company and even took a mont to shower and tidy up in the lounge.

When she appeared in public again, she was once more the aloof and cold beauty she was known as.

Ivy walked into the assistant general manager’s office upstairs, and as soon as she entered, she saw Chris Chase frantically organizing materials.

She frowned, looking down on him sowhat, "At this point, why are you still bothering with that stuff? Even if they co after us, they’ll surely start with the finances. No one’s going to dig back into those old projects."

Chris slumped in the chair, feeling depressed, "What can I do? All of the company’s records have been taken away. Even if I wanted to distance myself, I don’t have the chance. Apart from cleaning up traces from old projects a bit, what else can I do?"

Ivy smiled, walked to his side, and bent down to hook his neck, softly saying, "I’ve found so connections that can help us get out of this."

Chris didn’t believe her, snorted with a cold laugh, tugging at his tie, said, "Don’t be fooled by those scamrs out there. There are plenty of people doing this kind of thing. In the end, sothing goes wrong, and the money is wasted."

Ivy gave him a kiss on the cheek and giggled, "Old Chase, you’re still as timid as ever. If I hadn’t been leading you along all these years, would you have what you have today?"

Chris, feeling both irritated and afraid, pushed her away impatiently, "Why bring this up now? Why don’t you say, if not for you, I wouldn’t have ended up like this?"

The thing he regretted most in his life was getting involved with Ivy Jenkins five years ago. He had a wife and daughter, a happy life, but Ivy, that sly little fox, seduced him. Eventually, his wife took their daughter and divorced him, dragging him completely onto this sinking ship.

These past few years, he’s lived every day on edge, but turning back is not so easy.

Ivy was montarily stunned, then let go of him, slowly stood up, and sneered, "Chris Chase, after five years, you’re finally speaking the truth! Now you bla . Why didn’t you say that when you were taking advantage of it?"

Chris, physically and ntally exhausted, "Forget it, what’s the point of arguing about this now? We should think about how to explain once we’re inside. With the amount we’re involved in, we’ll be in for life if nothing unexpected happens."

Ivy continued to sneer at him, "The one who won’t co out is you. I’ve arranged everything. Soone will get out. As for you, since you’re so resentful of , I see no reason to help you. Chris Chase, you’re on your own!"

She turned and walked out rcilessly.

A re pet kept around for amusent, not worthy of being taken to heart.

After Ivy left, Chris forced a bitter smile, thinking that his current predicant was his own doing. But he still doubted Ivy could use her connections to extricate herself from this. Most likely, she had been scamd.

He sat there in a daze, suddenly missing his daughter. Since the divorce, his ex had refused him visitation rights. His daughter should be eight by now. He wondered if she still rembered him.

If only he could see his daughter one more ti.

On the third day of the investigation from headquarters, the entire company’s managent was taken over by a new team. Ivy and Chris were officially dismissed for investigation, and even the general manager was affected, resigning in self-reproach.

When Ivy was taken away, she went berserk in her office, shouting for Jade Fisher to give her an explanation and bragging about having soone behind her, warning them to be polite to her.

But no one bought it. Jade hadn’t been to the company in two or three days, leaving Ivy to accept the fact that she had been deceived!

Jade took her money without fulfilling her end of the deal, and the so-called help might just have been Jade’s fabrication to swindle her money!

Now, with no one to turn to and no way to get the money back, Ivy was almost driven mad.

The investigation team wouldn’t care if she was losing it; they forcefully took her away.

She and Chris were temporarily detained in the sa holding cell. Chris, like a frostbitten eggplant, sat there with his head down, lifeless, seemingly resigned and having given up the struggle.

Ivy, disheveled, looked at him. She had thought Jade could help, so she hadn’t had the chance to clean up many things, yet Chris had managed to tidy up all loose ends in those projects.

Chris may be able to extricate himself, but she cannot.

Now, she had to plan for herself.

Ivy, eyes bloodshot like a demon from hell, began hoarsely, "Chris Chase, there are so things you know how to handle."

Her litany of wrongdoings was extensive, and Chris had a hand in every single one; she feared he’d spill all her secrets to save himself.

Chris abruptly looked up at her, his face going pale as if rembering sothing.

But he said nothing.

Ivy saw his silence, her expression souring, "What does it an when you don’t speak? Do you think by revealing everything, you can clear yourself? Dream on. We’re in this together, for better or worse!"

When Chris remained silent still, Ivy grew anxious, her tone softening, "Chris, you know your ex-wife and daughter are under my arrangents. I can ensure their well-being or bring them trouble. As long as you keep your mouth shut, I guarantee their peaceful future."

Hearing his ex-wife and daughter ntioned, Chris finally reacted, nodding after a mont, speaking hoarsely, "Don’t worry, I won’t say anything."

He had indeed thought of using Ivy’s cris to gain credit for himself. Having been close to Ivy for five years, no one understood her criminal activities better than him. They went far beyond what was currently under investigation.

Three years ago, when she and her brother took money for that matter, if that ca to light, she wouldn’t have a chance to live.

But she threatened him with his ex-wife and daughter, leaving him no choice but to compromise.

Lacking Northgarde residency, post-divorce, his daughter’s schooling was arranged by Ivy, and his ex-wife had successfully bought a house in Northgarde due to Ivy’s operations.

With a word, Ivy could turn his ex and daughter’s stable lives upside down, a prospect he couldn’t bear.

Seeing Chris’s assurance, Ivy finally relaxed, though a spark of resentnt lingered within. After five years of divorce, this bastard still thought only of his ex-wife and daughter!

Her painstaking effort to steal him away was all for naught, as if feeding a dog!

Then she rembered Jade taking her eight million and disappearing, cursing venomously inside, damn it, if she ever gets back up, she’ll kill her!

At this mont, Jade Fisher, cursed by Ivy, was not having a great ti either.

She kneeled in the grand villa of the Somrs Family, begging humbly, "Uncle Somrs, please don’t fire my father. Our family needs this job, I know I was wrong. I’ll never dare do such a thing again. Please forgive this once!"

Her father, Ronan Fisher, an honest man and the Somrs Family’s driver, stood by her, helpless, "Jade, don’t do this, I’ll find another job... Mr. Somrs, bla for not raising her right..."

Haylie Somrs’s father, Mason Somrs, glared at Jade Fisher coldly and scolded harshly, "Jade, since your father ca to us, the Somrs Family, I’ve treated him well, yet here you are doing this! Daring to encourage Haylie to ddle in such dangerous matters, and soliciting money behind our backs, extorting eight million! I never imagined you’d be this kind of child!"

Jade’s eyes reddened with injustice, but her throat seed blocked, unable to say anything.

She hated the unfairness of fate, being born into a chauffeur’s family. Was it wrong to plan for her future? She had worked so hard to achieve her goals step by step, while that fool Haylie Somrs effortlessly had everything she wanted.

How could she have known the matter was so dangerous? Who would expect an ordinary company to have mysterious familial power behind it? Clearly, it was Haylie who put her in a tough spot regarding Elara, leading her to interfere in Ivy’s affairs. Now Mason Somrs blad it all on her, and why was that?

With eyes red, she pleaded, "Uncle Somrs, I know I was wrong. Please, for the sake of no serious consequences from this, show so leniency? I truly did nothing, apart from falsely claiming connections to demand eight million. I did nothing else!"

Haylie had just ntioned the plan to rescue Ivy to Mason Somrs when he blocked the whole thing, without any opportunity to execute anything.

She didn’t understand why Mason Somrs insisted on driving her and her father to the brink.

Mason looked visibly annoyed, turned to Jade Fisher, "Do you think that demanding those eight million dollars is rely a matter of money? If that woman gets investigated, do you think the police won’t scrutinize her recent transactions? Once they discover she was in a financial entanglent with you shortly before her incident, can you truly stay uninvolved?"

After speaking, he turned to Ronan Fisher, "Old Fisher, your daughter’s mind is unclear, but you should understand that I’m doing this for the whole Somrs Family. The family cannot be entangled in such issues."

Ronan Fisher nodded hurriedly, "Mr. Somrs, I understand, I understand."

Jade cast a resentful look at him, useless thing, only nods and bows! Doesn’t even dare to fart in front of Mason Somrs!

Mason Somrs owed a bit to Ronan Fisher and said, "I will provide you with the compensation due as per the dismissal standards."

Ronan Fisher quickly expressed his gratitude.

Mason Somrs waved his hand, "Alright, you can leave now."

Jade stood up numbly and followed Ronan Fisher out.

Today, she truly witnessed what it ans for people to leave while the tea cools down. She swore that one day, she would repay this humiliation a thousand tis over!

anwhile, Haylie Somrs was sitting on a nearby sofa, lazily scrolling through her phone. She had received a scolding from her father earlier, but that was all. To her, this incident was like breaking a bowl while eating — a trivial matter.

She couldn’t care less about a father and daughter losing their jobs and being completely expelled from Northgarde. The only thing she regretted was missing the opportunity to make things difficult for Elara Hale.

Elara was completely unaware of the happenings behind the scenes. Recently, her life had returned to normal, and her overdue commission was finally paid, making her feel like a little rich woman.

She didn’t dare touch the money and just left it in her bank card, planning to use it when her father needed it in the future.

After work today, she happily bought so ingredients, planning to cook dinner at ho.

She actually enjoyed cooking, but had been too busy lately, like a spinning top, and hadn’t cooked for herself in a long ti.

Her cooking skills weren’t bad either, so she had told Zion Fitzwilliam in advance not to buy dinner, as she would cook and it would just an an extra pair of chopsticks.

Zion usually got ho at eight, but today he was ho by six.

Elara was de-veining shrimp and, sowhat surprised, said, "Ho so early today?"

Zion couldn’t tell her that as soon as he received her ssage, he rushed back, eager not to miss the chance to cook together.

He had previously learned that one essential step in pursuing a girl is cooking together in the kitchen.

God knows how envious he was when his grandmother visited earlier, seeing her and his grandmother chatting and laughing while preparing dinner in the kitchen, he even felt regretfully that his grandmother was a bit in the way.

And now, finally, it was his turn.

Bringing his wandering thoughts back, he smiled slightly, restrained yet polite, "Just finished with a client today, saw the ti was about right, so I ca back."

Elara let out an "oh," and said, "Great, help with the apron, these shrimp are jumping around and getting water all over ."

Zion responded with an "mm," picking up the apron with feigned calm, moved behind her, and gently encircled her with his hands, his voice a little tense, "Raise your arm."

Elara obediently lifted her arm, threading it through the apron strap.

Zion tied the apron strings for her.

His fingers were less than a centiter away from her. She was wearing a light pink sweater today, and the fine fuzz on the sweater brushed against his hand, making his heart itch and sweat form in his palms.

He wanted to touch her more, wanted to embrace her, wanted to pull her into his arms...

Zion quickly stopped his wild thoughts, cleared his throat, "All set. Can I help you with anything?"

Elara pointed to the vegetables next to her, "Wash the broccoli and cut the carrots."

The ribs were already simring in the pot, and she only needed to add the carrots before serving.

Zion smiled, "Alright."

Just then, his phone rang. He took it out to see a ssage from Assistant Harris.

"Jade’s family has already left Northgarde."

Zion’s lips curled into a smile, replying, "Nicely done."

Anyone daring to target his girl must face consequences.

Finished with the ssage, he nonchalantly tucked the phone away, then followed Elara’s instructions to wash the broccoli and cut the carrots into chunks.

Elara knew he could cook but had never seen him do it, surprised at how skillfully he sliced the carrots into beautiful pieces.

She was a bit amazed, "Have you been trained?"

Zion chuckled softly, not denying, "Mm, I once learned it for soone I liked."

Elara looked at him intently, "That person was quite unfortunate."

She rembered his previous ntion of acquiring the skill after falling for soone who loved peeled shrimp, guessing it was the sa person.

A jerk of a person, unworthy of soone as good as him.

Zion was silent for a few seconds, "Indeed unfortunate. I was ready to beco a chef for her, but she ran off."

Elara instantly understood he hadn’t moved on!

Having a wealth of experience in such matters, she comforted him, "It’s okay, ti will heal everything."

anwhile, she was guessing in her mind, was the person he ntioned Attorney White?

If it was Attorney White, things wouldn’t be so harmonious between them. Those who have loved cannot remain re friends.

This would an Attorney White ca after the previous one?

She couldn’t help but feel sorry recalling how he had taken her case for Attorney White, even risking tens of thousands in compensation just to hand the case over to Attorney White.

To be heartbroken by a jerk once and still so romantically inclined, Zion was simply too kind and naive.

Such a sincere person, hopefully, Attorney White won’t hurt him again.
