David Hales turned his face away, his voice sowhat unnatural, "What does this have to do with you? Don’t overthink it. I just can’t live with her anymore."

Yvette Somrs glared angrily, hands on her hips, pointing at David Hales and scolding, "You’ve got the nerve to say that! I’ve served you without complaint for three years, if not credit, then at least hard work, right? Was I wrong to ask you to persuade your daughter? I’m thinking of her well-being, isn’t it? How is she going to support this family now that she’s divorced?"

David Hales was an honest and kind man who couldn’t speak venomously, his face turning dark with anger as he tightly gripped the wheelchair’s armrests, "That’s not what you said earlier!"

No father can stand such disgusting words.

Elara didn’t want her father to be troubled, so she walked over and pushed the wheelchair, "Dad, go back to your room first, I’ll talk to Auntie Yvette."

David Hales held her hand, his usually sincere eyes filled with resolve, "Elara, don’t feel burdened. I can take care of myself. If she doesn’t want to stay, let her go. I don’t want to see you compromise."

His rough hand made her feel an unprecedented warmth.

Elara forced a light smile, "Dad, it’s okay, don’t worry. There was a bit of misunderstanding between Auntie Yvette and at noon, she’ll co around once we talk it through."

David Hales sighed deeply and said nothing more, letting his daughter push him back to the room.

After closing the door, Elara walked out to find Yvette Somrs looking sharp, "Begging won’t help. Either apologize to the Jacobs Family and ask them to take you back, or sue them for a large amount of money, otherwise, I absolutely won’t stay with this family!"

Elara looked at her and said, "You’re oversimplifying it. Mason Jacobs is not going to remarry , or the Jacobs Family’s reputation will be ruined. For such a prestigious family, face is more important than life."

Yvette Somrs furrowed her brow tightly, relentlessly pressing, "Then ask them for money! The Jacobs Family’s assets are marital property; at least a few billion should be no problem!"

Elara shook her head, "It’s not possible. We signed a prenuptial agreent, and Mason Jacobs had advanced ten years of salary, leaving only a hundred bucks inco per year in the future."

This was Kylie Dalton’s condition for agreeing to the marriage, just to safeguard against her.

Legally, she gets nothing upon divorce.

"Moreover," Elara looked at Yvette Somrs, "do you know what happened to the last person who caused a scene at the Jacobs Corporation’s entrance? They were sued by the Jacobs Group and had to pay 1.2 million."

Yvette Somrs’ face turned pale.

She didn’t have 1.2 million!

It was only now that Yvette Somrs understood that Elara’s divorce was a dead end.

Her face sank as she looked at Elara with a stingy gaze, "Don’t bla for being unscrupulous; you can see for yourself how I’ve taken care of your dad these past three years. Now that you’re divorced and unemployed, your dad needs over five thousand a month, and Aidan in school needs over four thousand a month, totaling ten thousand. Add food and drink expenses, and it’s at least fifteen thousand a month. How are you going to pay for that? I don’t want to be dragged down in your family!"

Elara understood why Yvette Somrs was so desperate.

Her only son, Aidan Somrs, was now in private high school, performing poorly and living aimlessly, getting into trouble was a regular occurrence. Yvette Somrs needed to worry about his college, job, marriage, and starting a family, all of which require money.

And now, the Hale Family clearly couldn’t provide her with these.

She used to count on the Jacobs Family, but now that’s gone too.

Elara had no other way, with no leverage but still needed Yvette Somrs to take care of her father.

She could only propose to Yvette Somrs, "I’ll give you fifteen thousand a month for three months, in return you can look for a new man. I just need three months, and if I haven’t made any progress by then, I’ll give you an additional ten thousand, and you can leave anyti."

This was undoubtedly a good deal.

Yvette Somrs calculated, at fifteen thousand a month, she could pocket seven thousand herself, making twenty-one thousand in three months, plus Elara’s additional ten thousand, totaling thirty-one thousand.

Moreover, Elara didn’t restrict her from finding a new partner.

She was tempted, but when she thought about the demands of a fellow parent at school that afternoon, she clenched her teeth, and said, "I need to see your sincerity first. Give ten thousand as a security deposit, and I’ll return it to you after three months!"

Elara frowned, "Ten thousand? That’s too much."

The condition she offered Yvette Somrs was the most she could give.

Yvette Somrs’ face turned a bit sour, crossing her arms, and said moodily, "Without ten thousand, there’s nothing more to talk about!"

Elara gritted her teeth and pleaded, "Auntie Yvette, can you just help out..."

Before she could finish her sentence, Yvette Somrs cut her off with a sneer, "Help you? I’m not a charity! Who’s helping while I help you?"

"Auntie Yvette..." Elara pinched her fingers, feeling powerless, "I really can’t co up with that much money."

Yvette Somrs sneered, "I don’t care about that. Don’t say I didn’t try to help you. I’ll give you three days, and if you don’t get the money in three days, I’m packing up and leaving!"

She then stood up and walked to her bedroom, slamming the door shut with a bang.

Elara sat in the living room, her heart heavy.

She had just over fifty thousand left, with her father needing money and the child she was supporting also needing funds, every penny needed to be ticulously planned.

Yvette Somrs demanded ten thousand, saying she’d return it in three months, but who knew if that would really happen?

Hiring a caregiver was expensive, she checked three years ago. For a full-ti caregiver like her father needed, it would cost at least thirty thousand a month, plus rehabilitation expenses, which she couldn’t afford.

And caregivers weren’t always reliable; the frequent changes in the past months were inevitable, even if she had the money, her job couldn’t endure it.

The two paths were completely blocked.

After a long while, Elara exhaled a long, heavy breath, pressed down the curve of her mouth, and walked into her father’s room with a smile.

David Hales was sitting at the desk, staring into space, with a family photo from three years ago placed there. Just overnight, a car accident shattered the family.

"Dad."

Elara suppressed the bitterness in her heart and called out nonchalantly.

David Hales seed jolted from a terrible mory, his body shivering, but when he saw Elara, he returned to normal quickly and asked, "Did you finish talking?"

Elara smiled and replied, "It was just a small misunderstanding. I’ve apologized to Auntie Yvette. Don’t worry; she’s agreed to take good care of you, and we’ll get through this together."

David Hales breathed a sigh of relief and patted her hand, "You also take care of yourself. I know, it hasn’t been easy for you either. Don’t stress too much; if worse cos to worst, we’ll sell the house. To , you’ll always be the most important one."

Elara felt a stinging bitterness in her nose, tears that she tried to hold back threatened to spill over, but she pressed them back, "Dad, it’s okay. Don’t worry."

Afraid that David Hales would notice sothing amiss, she quickly found an excuse to leave.

David Hales sat at the desk, holding the photo fra in a daze. The picture showed the three of them smiling sweetly...

After a long ti, he closed his eyes as a tear rolled down from the corner...

Elara, it’s who has wronged you...

But so things, he couldn’t say, didn’t dare say...
