Zion Fitzwilliam said, "Why ask ? If you think you should take it, then take it."
Brandon White quickly waved his hand, speaking righteously, "Sister-in-law, I’m a lawyer. Doing my best for my client is part of my duty. Just pay the litigation fee, that’s all."
Zion Fitzwilliam also spoke, "This case was originally ant to give him practice. Whether we win or not doesn’t really matter to us. You don’t need to feel guilty about taking the money."
How could Elara Hale not feel guilty? She quickly said, "The key to winning the case lies with you, I..."
Before she could finish, Brandon White interrupted her with a look of integrity, "Sister-in-law, ever since the day I beca a lawyer, serving the people has been my ideal. Do you want to tarnish my ideal with money?"
Elara Hale quickly said, "I didn’t an it like that..."
Brandon White looked at her sincerely, "If that’s the case, then please don’t insult my dream with money, okay?"
Elara Hale dumbly nodded.
Zion Fitzwilliam couldn’t bear to look directly, turning his back and using a cough to cover up his almost uncontrollable laughter.
Elara Hale used to only know that Brandon White was a novice lawyer who had just obtained his professional qualification. Little did she know that his heart was so noble, that he truly loved being a lawyer, treated it as his faith.
At this mont, Elara Hale had nothing but respect for Brandon White.
Since Brandon White refused to let money insult his dream and Zion Fitzwilliam also insisted on not wanting the money, Elara Hale was left with no choice but to drop the matter for the ti being.
Originally, she planned to return the favor, but now, the favor debt just kept growing larger.
After finishing the al, Brandon White said he had so matters to attend to and left first. Zion Fitzwilliam stood up and said to Elara Hale, "I’m going to the restroom, you wait for in the lobby area."
Elara Hale nodded and went to the front desk to pay the bill.
However, the front desk told her that the bill had already been settled.
Elara Hale was stunned, "Who paid the bill?"
The front desk replied, "It was one of your table guests, the one who left first just now."
Elara Hale regretfully patted her forehead.
She had intended to treat them to a al and give them so money, but they refused the money and even paid for the al themselves.
This was really embarrassing.
At the corner, Mason Jacobs, who had just co out of a private room with friends, paused in his steps, staring at the familiar figure at the front desk, "Elara Hale?"
When Elara Hale turned her head, she saw Mason Jacobs. The smile on her face vanished, and she asked, "Mr. Jacobs, what a coincidence. Is there sothing you need?"
Mason Jacobs pressed his lips together.
In the past, Elara Hale was like his pet. No matter how badly he treated her, she always responded with a smile. No matter where he went, when he turned around, she’d be there smiling at him.
But now, looking at Elara Hale’s indifferent expression, Mason Jacobs felt a surge of inexplicable anger rising within him. He motioned for his friends to leave and then walked a few steps forward, grabbing Elara Hale’s wrist!
"What gas have you been playing lately?" Mason Jacobs looked down at her, gritting his teeth, "Do you find this ga of hard-to-get fun? Do you think this will make think more highly of you?"
Elara Hale looked at him in disbelief, "Mr. Jacobs, are you crazy? I told you a long ti ago, since the day of the divorce, I never thought of turning back. Are you taking yourself too seriously?!"
She struggled, but Mason Jacobs didn’t let go, sneering, "Do you think I don’t know? You’re using this lawsuit to put pressure on , aren’t you? What kind of deal did you make with that lawyer, Brandon White? He suddenly targets , and you must have played a big part in it, right?"
Elara Hale was speechless. All the feelings she had for Mason Jacobs had vanished without a trace that day when he forced her to drink that laced wine. Hearing Mason Jacobs’ words now, she just found it ridiculous.
"I don’t understand what you’re talking about." Elara Hale glared at him, "Let go!"
Mason Jacobs didn’t let go, tightly gripping her wrist, "Don’t think that using these tactics will make change my mind. We’re over! If you’re so unwilling to accept it, then openly compete with Cece. There’s no need to resort to such low tricks!"
Elara Hale almost laughed in anger, her good upbringing allowing her to maintain the last bit of composure even in such a situation, "Mason Jacobs, don’t you understand human language? I’ve already said it, I’ve given up, let go, I don’t love you anymore!"
I don’t love you anymore!
These five words hit Mason Jacobs like a thunderclap, montarily stunning his angry expression.
Elara Hale said what? She doesn’t love him anymore? How is that possible?
Wasn’t she supposed to see him as a savior, to love him to death?
At this mont, a hand suddenly interjected, in a manner that allowed no refusal, swatting away his hand and pulling Elara Hale into an embrace.
Mason Jacobs snapped back to reality, just to see Zion Fitzwilliam holding Elara Hale protectively in an overtly possessive manner, looking at him coldly.
He detected the wariness behind Zion Fitzwilliam’s indifference and suddenly laughed, "Zion Fitzwilliam, do you really think she loves you? She just divorced and imdiately turned to marry you. You’re just a tool for her to forget !"
Zion Fitzwilliam eyed him with disdain, chuckling lightly, "Mr. Jacobs, you may be too confident in yourself."
Mason Jacobs snorted coldly, "I admit, you have so skills, enough for Mr. Hale at Aethel Insurance to focus on nurturing you. But in the end, you’re just a re employee, unable to provide her with a life of luxury and wealth. It won’t be long before she realizes the gap between you and , understands that what I once gave her is sothing you can never provide!"
Zion Fitzwilliam’s face darkened as he coldly said, "I’m curious, for what purpose did Mr. Jacobs say such words? Do you hope she realizes your worth and cos back to you?"
Mason Jacobs’ expression changed, imdiately denying, "How could that be!"
Zion Fitzwilliam scoffed, "Your words are quite misleading."
Mason Jacobs also realized his gaffe. In truth, he wasn’t interested in Elara Hale at all, but why did he call out to her earlier and waste ti saying so many inexplicable things?
With a somber expression, he turned around and left.
At this mont, Elara Hale’s phone rang. She quickly answered, "Hello, what’s up?"
Zara Dalton’s urgent but suppressed tone ca over, "Elara, are you free now? Could you bring so cash to The East End for ? I just called Esther, and that bastard told to fend for myself!"
Elara Hale was taken aback, quickly asking, "Sure, how much do you need? Is sothing wrong?"
Zara Dalton hesitated a bit, "I was having dinner with Miss Somrs, and I didn’t realize that the restaurant here in the suburbs only takes cash, but I don’t have enough on ... Not much, five thousand will do."
Elara Hale chuckled after hearing this, "Alright, send your location, I’m on my way.
After hanging up, she said to Zion Fitzwilliam, "Zara’s eating out with his girlfriend and is short on money. I’m going to bring him so, you can head back first."
Zion Fitzwilliam remained impassive, saying in a deep voice, "I’ll go with you."
Elara Hale hesitated for a mont, about to refuse, but then Zion Fitzwilliam added, "It’s too late to go to the suburbs alone. Since we’re taking a taxi, it costs the sa whether it’s two people or one."
Elara Hale thought about it and realized he had a point, so she nodded, apologetically saying, "Then I’m going to have to take up your ti again tonight."
Zion Fitzwilliam gave a soft laugh, "It’s no problem."
Not far away, Mason Jacobs, who had just left, watched as the two got into a taxi, his eyes flickering, and he waved to hail a cab as well.
"Driver, follow the car in front."
