Chapter 8: The Paladin’s Master?!

????“Bruce!”

??“No—!”

??The male doctor’s eyes bulged, his scream splitting the night.

??He couldn’t believe it.

??His greatest creation—a zombie he’d poured his life’s work into—had been felled in a single blow.

??Everything he’d built, destroyed in an instant.

??How could this be happening?

??Did he even modify his own body…?

??Bai Xuan’s gaze lingered on the doctor’s unnatural eye, his brows knitting in disgust.

??No wonder Bai Yu looked so repulsed earlier. This man is truly deranged.

??“Wait! Don’t kill !”

??Now defenseless, the doctor panicked, scrambling to plead for his life. “I’ll give you all my money! Everything I have! Just let

go, please!”

??Bai Xuan didn’t so much as flinch. He only asked, “Why did you create zombies?”

??“Zombies? This is evolution!” the doctor spat, teeth clenched, desperate to defend himself.

??“Evolution?”

??“Of course!”

??A feverish glint flashed in his eyes, pride swelling in his voice. “That woman brought

sothing that could change the course of dical science! Didn’t you see? Their strength, their speed—they’re beyond anything a human could achieve!”

??Bai Xuan pressed, “Who brought it to you? What was it?”

??“If I tell you, will you let

go?” The doctor narrowed his eyes, trying to bargain.

??“Maybe.” Bai Xuan’s tone was utterly flat as he shrugged.

??“It was a female ghoul! She brought a vial of blood from Baihai City!” the doctor blurted, eager to save himself. “I only got a single drop, and look what I created—powerful, obedient servants! If I could get more, the dical world would never be the sa!”

??A ghoul?

??That must be Xu Yan.

??Bai Xuan asked, “Where’s the rest of the blood?”

??“How should I know? You’ll have to ask that ghoul—she’s the one who sold it! But didn’t you already kill her?” The doctor sneered.

??“…”

??Bai Xuan fell silent, then glanced at Serene. “Kill him.”

??Serene obeyed without hesitation, raising the Sword of No Light, its cold edge glinting as she aid at the doctor.

??“Bastards!”

??Realizing Bai Xuan had no intention of showing rcy, the doctor snapped. “I’ll take you all down with !”

??He lunged—only to be stopped short. An invisible sword flash swept through the air, severing his legs before he could cross the room.

??“AAAH—!”

??He crashed to the floor, howling in agony, his words twisted by pain and rage:

??“You fools! You don’t understand my dream! This is progress! This is humanity’s hope to break its limits! This is the future!”

??Bai Xuan didn’t even bother to reply.

??Serene, on the other hand, slowly raised her left hand, her voice icy with contempt. “Filthy, despicable necromancer—”

??“Your vile deeds will be spat upon by the world.”

??“Your soul shall be utterly erased by holy light—”

??“Sealed forever in the depths of hell!”

??As she spoke, a blazing golden fla ignited in her palm.

??Without hesitation, Serene hurled the fire at the doctor.

??In an instant, golden flas consud his body, and his screams rose to an unbearable pitch:

??“Aaaah—!”

??“It hurts! What is this fire?!”

??“No! Please, I’m sorry! Spare !”

??“AAAAHH—!”

??His screams faded, growing weaker and weaker, until at last, silence reigned.

??When the golden fire died away, only a corpse remained.

??There were no burn marks, but the expression twisted on his face was horrifying.

??Bai Xuan understood then—Serene was truly furious.

??Her face remained calm, but in her eyes, a smoldering rage burned that refused to be extinguished.

??To a paladin, a monster who profanes life is beyond forgiveness.

??“It’s done. Let’s go ho,” Bai Xuan said softly.

??“Mhm.”

??He left with Serene at his side.

??Not long after they disappeared, a girl in a red qipao, her hair tied in a bun, drifted gently down from the sky.

??She glanced at the spot where Bai Xuan and Serene had vanished, then at the two corpses on the ground.

??Tilting her head in puzzlent, she murmured to herself,

??“Missed them by a step? Who were those two, anyway?”

??…

??Bai Xuan teleported ho. As he switched on the lights in his room, he heard Bai Yu’s voice through the door.

??“Bai Xuan? You’re still up?”

??“Just finished.”

??“…?”

??“I’m heading out. Even if it’s the weekend tomorrow, don’t stay up too late.”

??“Okay. Be careful.”

??Once Bai Yu left, Bai Xuan submitted his quest.

??【World Quest: Plague of the Undead (Completed)】

??【Mission Reward: Character Setting—dium (Green). Your Agility has increased slightly!】

??【dium (Green): You can see and communicate with spiritual entities.】

??dium?

??Bai Xuan’s eyes lit up at the reward. He imdiately added the Character Setting to himself.

??【Add Character Setting ‘dium’ to yourself?】

??Yes.

??【Character Setting ‘dium’ added!】

??At the sa ti, his Agility attribute rose to E , and the Legendary Charge of the Book of Worlds reached forty percent.

??With his Agility boosted, Bai Xuan could feel the change in his body—clear as day.

??Agility wasn’t just about speed; it sharpened his reflexes, too.

??Now, everything around him seed to slow down a little. Movents, details—he could catch them all so much more easily.

??“It’s already two in the morning?”

??Only after finishing everything did he realize how late it was.

??He and Serene washed up, then drifted straight into sleep.

??…

??anwhile, Bai Yu had just arrived at the private hospital, where the Security Bureau was already cleaning up and dealing with the bodies.

??She imdiately sought out Liu Qian. “What happened here?”

??“Bai Yu! You’re finally here!” Liu Qian exclaid, excitent bright in her eyes. “That female knight showed up again! She saved us—again!”

??“She appeared again?”

??A flicker of surprise crossed Bai Yu’s face. Once more, she’d missed her.

??“Yeah! Let

tell you—”

??Before Liu Qian could continue, a voice called from above:

??“Hey, how much do you know about that female knight?”

??“Who are you?”

??Bai Yu and Liu Qian both looked up, startled, to see a girl floating in midair.

??An Anomaly!

??The girl landed lightly beside them and introduced herself. “I’m Li Hongyou, Investigation Bureau, Baihai City.”

??“How much do you know about the female knight?”

??“Not much, honestly,” Bai Yu answered at once. “But we’re sure of two things: she’s not a bad person, and she only started appearing in Ninghang City recently.”

??“Who can say?” Li Hongyou shrugged, unconcerned. “Anomalies are always a handful. Anything else you know? Like the guy who’s always with her—who is he?”

??“Guy?”

??Bai Yu and Liu Qian exchanged confused looks.

??“So you don’t know either.”

??Seeing their blank faces, Li Hongyou sighed, exasperated. “Thought you’d have so clues. Guess I was wrong.”

??Bai Yu pressed, “Can you describe him? Maybe we can help you track him down.”

??“He hides his face. I can’t describe him exactly,” Li Hongyou said, shaking her head. “But I do know this—he’s the paladin’s master. She does whatever he says.”

??“The… paladin’s master?!”
