Chapter 40: Serene! I Need Your Prayers!

????“Eat as much as you like if you enjoy it.”

??Bai Xuan smiled, sliding a glass of iced cola across the table to her before taking a seat opposite.

??He sliced off a piece of at for himself and took a bite—his eyebrows shot up in surprise.

??Damn, that’s incredible!

??What truly amazed him was that, aside from a pinch of salt, he hadn’t added any seasoning at all, yet the flavor surpassed even the finest cuts of beef or lamb he’d ever tasted.

??Could it be… because this is monster at?

??“Are you sure this is donkey at?” Bai Yu asked between mouthfuls. “I’ve never actually had donkey before, but this tastes more like the flesh of a predator.”

??“No idea. The seller said it was donkey, but for all I know, it could be dog—or sothing else entirely.” Bai Xuan shrugged, unconcerned. “Does it matter? As long as it tastes good.”

??“You can’t be so careless!” Bai Yu chided, her tone tinged with reproach. “What if you get swindled?”

??“That’s what I have you for, isn’t it?”

??“I’m not omnipotent, you know!”

??Bai Yu shot him a glare but couldn’t help savoring another bite. “Still, this really is sothing special. Maybe it is so kind of monster at. I’ve heard that so of the low-level monsters appearing in Ninghang City get processed by underground groups and sold on the sly.”

??“Could be.”

??Bai Xuan kept his tone neutral, but a flicker of unease darted through his mind.

??Not bad—she guessed that so quickly?

??“By the way!”

??He switched topics in a flash. “Yu-jie, didn’t you awaken so kind of superpower? Aren’t you going to show your dear little brother?”

??A sly grin flashed across Bai Yu’s face.

??She stood, circled behind Bai Xuan, and whispered, “Stand up.”

??He did as she asked—and in the next instant, Bai Yu wrapped her arms around him from behind.

??At first, it felt completely normal. But then things took a strange turn.

??Bai Yu’s body suddenly beca incredibly soft, winding around him like a serpent, slowly coiling upward.

??Bai Xuan was stunned.

??He’d never imagined that Elastic Body would feel this good.

??It was like being embraced by a seductive snake goddess—silky, supple, and sinfully comfortable.

??Holy crap—how is she this soft?!

??“Yu-jie, your ability is amazing!” Bai Xuan couldn’t help but blurt out.

??“It’s not the best for fighting, but it’s perfect for certain situations,” Bai Yu explained. “Like sneaking through spaces no ordinary human could squeeze through. And my resistance to impacts has shot up.”

??“Oh?” Bai Xuan’s eyes widened. “So no matter how hard I crash into you, you’ll be fine?”

??“Pretty much.” Bai Yu thought for a mont, then nodded, not picking up on anything odd about the question.

??“In that case, Yu-jie,” Bai Xuan said, “mind letting go of ? I should go wash the dishes.”

??“...!”

??After dinner, Bai Xuan returned to his room.

??He closed the door and turned to Mare Alera. “Little Mare, did you like the at?”

??“Delicious! Human! So yummy!” Mare Alera chirped, her delight obvious.

??“Glad you enjoyed it.” Bai Xuan nodded, then glanced at Serene.

??Serene, however, lowered her head, her voice barely above a whisper. “Sorry… I couldn’t finish mine. The rest is…”

??“If you’re full, it’s fine,” Bai Xuan said, unconcerned.

??It was a rare treat that boosted attributes, sure, but if Serene genuinely couldn’t eat more, he wouldn’t force her.

??After showering, Bai Xuan flopped onto his bed.

??The effects of the Wolf Matron’s Heart still hadn’t fully settled in—it would take ti to digest, after all.

??There was still about a fifth of the Wolf Matron’s Heart left, which he stashed in the fridge for now. The portion Serene couldn’t finish had, of course, ended up in Mare Alera’s belly.

??For a dragon, that tiny morsel wasn’t even enough to get stuck between her teeth.

??He scrolled through his phone for a while, and before he knew it, it was half past midnight.

??Bai Xuan switched off the light and called out to the two girls, “Goodnight.”

??“Goodnight.”

??“Goodnight~ human~”

??……

??Near dawn—

??Bai Xuan jolted awake.

??He was startled to find his clothes drenched in sweat, Holy Light blazing from his body, brilliant and fierce.

??“What the…? Why am I like this?”

??He muttered, brow furrowed. “Is it the Wolf Matron’s Heart?”

??Was it… too potent?

??“Damn, this status just won’t fade…”

??Frowning, Bai Xuan’s gaze drifted to Serene, still asleep.

??After a mont’s hesitation, he gently pushed aside Mare Alera—who was sprawled across him—and slipped out of bed.

??“Serene… Serene, could you help

with sothing?” he whispered.

??“Mmm…?”

??Serene stirred, sitting up—only to be t with the blinding radiance of Holy Light.

??“What’s… going on?”

??“I need a Paladin’s prayer,” Bai Xuan said, a bit embarrassed. “Could I ask you for that?”

??Serene blinked, montarily stunned.

??This ti, the Holy Light was even more dazzling than before.

??She steadied herself, answering softly, “Prayers are usually the duty of a Saintess or a nun… but I can perform it in their stead.”

??“Thank you.”

??As soon as he spoke, Serene pressed her lips together and moved closer…

??It wasn’t until around 7:30 in the morning that Bai Xuan finally felt the effects of the Wolf Matron’s Heart subside.

??“Whew…”

??He let out a long breath and checked his Attribute Panel—his Agility had risen to C rank!

??He glanced at Serene.

??She was quietly wiping the faint glow from the corner of her lips, her beautiful eyes shimring with satisfaction.

??But what shocked Bai Xuan even more was that Serene’s Agility Attribute had jumped to A !

??That ant she’d received the Wolf Matron’s Heart’s effect through the Holy Light prayer!

??“It works like that?!”

??Bai Xuan was stunned. He hadn’t expected that at all.

??“Wait!”

??Suddenly, he rembered Bai Yu. If his own reaction had been that intense, then Bai Yu must be…

??He hurriedly pulled on his pants and dashed out of the room.

??“Yu-jie!? Yu-jie!”

??He knocked urgently on Bai Yu’s door, his voice tight with worry.

??“What is it?”

??Bai Yu opened the door, her voice calm and gentle as ever.

??“You…”

??Bai Xuan started, but Bai Yu looked perfectly normal—not a hint of anything wrong.

??He shifted gears. “Are you okay? I ate so of that at last night and my stomach’s been acting up… Maybe it wasn’t fresh.”

??“Diarrhea? Should we go to the hospital?” Bai Yu asked, concern flickering in her eyes.

??“No, no, I’m feeling much better now—actually, I wanted to check if you’re alright!”

??“I’m fine.”

??Bai Yu shook her head and shrugged with a faint smile.

??“Huh?”

??Bai Xuan was baffled. So… the effect only works on n?

??He let it go. “If you’re fine, that’s good. I’ll go wash up and get ready for school.”

??“Alright,” Bai Yu replied softly, closing the door behind her.

??But the mont the door shut, she turned and pressed her back against it, chest heaving as her heart pounded wildly.

??Fine? Not even close!

??That at last night was absolutely not normal.

??But it wasn’t that it was spoiled…

??“I’m taking the day off!”

??Bai Yu took a deep breath, pulled out her phone, and ssaged her supervisor at the Security Bureau to request a day’s leave.

??Fortunately, she’d accumulated plenty of overti, so getting ti off wasn’t an issue.

??Even so…

??She frowned, lost in thought. Just what kind of at had Bai Xuan bought?

??Why had eating it left her burning with restless desire?

??This is unbearable—!
