Chapter 25: The Zombie Horde!

????Dusk deepened, and night fell.

??Bai Xuan lingered at the edge of the fading glow, ready to head ho.

??“Hm?”

??Suddenly, a flock of birds swept across the sky from the north, drawing his gaze upward.

??Hot on their heels—

??A suffocating stench of rot drifted in from the north, thick enough to choke the air.

??“What’s going on?”

??A ripple of unease passed through Bai Xuan’s chest.

??He suddenly rembered that Bai Yu had driven off in that direction. Without hesitation, he pulled out his phone and ssaged her.

??A reply ca quickly.

??Bai Yu: “How did you know I’m on the north side of Ninghang City?”

??“Don’t worry, I’m perfectly safe here.”

??But that sewer-stench—so foul it made his skin crawl—left Bai Xuan anything but reassured.

??…

??“Your little brother texting again?” Liu Qian asked, her words muffled around a mouthful of burger.

??“Yeah.” Bai Yu set her phone aside.

??Liu Qian slurped her milk tea, sighing with envy. “So jealous. I wish I had a sweet little brother like that.”

??“Sweet?” Bai Yu rolled her eyes. “You never saw him as a kid. He was a terror in the orphanage. I lost count of how many tis we got scolded because of him.”

??“Really?” Liu Qian’s eyes sparkled, lips quirking in amusent.

??“Of course!”

??As Bai Yu spoke, her gaze drifted to the burger and milk tea in Liu Qian’s hands. “Didn’t you always say you hated this stuff? Since when—?”

??Liu Qian let out a long sigh. “Stress, I guess. Sweets help

cope.”

??She rummaged in her pocket, pulled out a caral, and offered it. “Want one?”

??“I’m good—”

??BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP—!

??Suddenly, the base’s alarm blared, shattering the calm.

??“What’s happening?”

??“What’s going on?”

??Both won exchanged puzzled looks.

??“Wait here. I’ll check it out.”

??Bai Yu dashed out of the room, only to see constables inside the military base scrambling to their posts.

??“Hurry! They’re here!”

??“Where are the gunners?”

??“Get the defense cannons ready!”

??“Shit! How are there so many of them?”

??“Don’t panic! We’ve got several Investigation Bureau agents here. We’ll be fine!”

??“We can hold the line!”

??…

??Bai Yu frowned, climbing to a higher vantage point to peer into the distance.

??Under the cloak of night, thousands of dark shapes surged toward the base like a tidal wave.

??“How can there be so many Zombies all of a sudden?” she thought, shocked. “Ninghang City’s never seen a horde this size…”

??“Don’t worry.”

??Huang Xin strode over with two other agents, his tone steady and reassuring. “With us here, the base is safe.”

??Bai Yu didn’t reply. Her eyes swept the area, then she asked, “Where’s Miss Li Hongyou?”

??“She’s in the base, but I’m not sure exactly where,” Huang Xin answered.

??“Alright…” Bai Yu nodded, though a shadow of worry lingered in her eyes.

??By now, the Zombie horde was less than a kiloter from the military base.

??“They’re here!”

??“Open fire!”

??BOOM!

??The mont the horde drew close, the base’s defense cannons roared as one.

??The thunder of artillery rocked the night.

??Every shell landed in the midst of the horde, instantly shredding dozens of Zombies and igniting blazing walls of fire at the impact sites.

??Any Zombies lucky—or unlucky—enough to slip through the barrage were mowed down by machine-gun fire before they could get close.

??“Fire!”

??BANG BANG BANG!

??A torrent of bullets poured down. No matter how many Zombies there were, they fell in heaps beneath the onslaught, reduced to piles of mangled flesh.

??“Haha! Nothing beats heavy firepower!”

??“Just a bunch of Zombies—not so tough after all!”

??“If it’s made of carbon, nothing’s surviving a 12.7mm round!”

??“Kill them! Wipe them all out!”

??The defenders’ faces lit up with excitent. Against guns and artillery, ordinary Zombies were helpless. In just monts, a third of the horde had been obliterated.

??But just as the battle seed one-sided, several hulking figures burst from the inferno and charged the base!

??Bullets barely fazed them. Even when cannon fire tore off their limbs, the wounds sealed in seconds and they hurled themselves into the fray again.

??“Shit! What the hell are those things?!”

??“Block the breach! Don’t let them in!”

??“They won’t die—nothing kills them!”

??“Aaaagh!”

??“It’s over—they’re inside!”

??“Hold the line! We have to hold!”

??…

??The sudden appearance of the Tyrants tore open the defenders’ ranks.

??Zombies surged through the gap, flooding into the military base.

??At that mont, Huang Xin spoke coolly: “Our turn, everyone.”

??“Right.”

??The three Investigation Bureau agents rushed to the breach, imdiately locking into fierce combat with several Tyrants.

??But judging by the scene, they were clearly outmatched.

??Seeing this, Bai Yu drew her pistol and moved to help.

??Just then, a figure dropped from the sky.

??With a wave of her hand, the advancing Zombies suddenly floated up into the air.

??“What… is that power?”

??“They’re levitating!”

??“It’s that girl’s Ability!”

??All eyes turned to Li Hongyou, hovering above, faces filled with shock.

??With a casual flick, Li Hongyou sent the Zombies crashing down from above, their skulls smashing against the concrete like overripe fruit.

??In a heartbeat, hundreds of Zombies’ heads burst open, painting a grueso scene.

??“She’s incredible!”

??“That’s an Investigation Bureau agent for you!”

??“She’s a monster in her own right!”

??The crowd erupted in cheers.

??But Li Hongyou remained unmoved, her gaze shifting to the Tyrants battling Huang Xin and the others.

??She raised both hands, miming a tearing motion.

??In an instant, an invisible force yanked a Tyrant into the air. After a brief struggle, it was ripped in half, its remains crashing to the ground.

??“So… so strong…”

??The three agents stared in horror, stunned beyond words.

??None of them had imagined that Li Hongyou, from Baihai City, could be this terrifying.

??With a single gesture, she’d torn a Tyrant apart!

??“You hold the breach. Leave the rest to ,” Li Hongyou called, flying forward.

??“No problem—leave it to us, Miss Li Hongyou!” Huang Xin replied with a grin.

??He’d always sung her praises, but even he hadn’t expected her to be this powerful.

??Ripping apart a Tyrant with a flick of her hand…

??Forget junior agents—even mid-level ones could barely dream of that!

??Before the words had faded, Li Hongyou struck again, reducing two more Tyrants to bloody pulp.

??Yet as she kept wielding her telekinesis, streaks of blood began to appear in her eyes—a clear sign she was pushing her Anomalous Ability to its limits.

??“Damn!” Li Hongyou clicked her tongue in annoyance. “When this is over, I’m hunting down that bitch and settling the score!”

??With another surge of power, she shredded yet another Tyrant.

??“So this… is the power of an Anomalous Ability?”

??From afar, Bai Yu watched in awe. She’d always known how formidable these powers were—but seeing Li Hongyou’s overwhelming strength firsthand was sothing else entirely.

??Before long, the Zombies that had breached the line were wiped out.

??Everyone let out a long breath, relief breaking through their exhaustion.

??“We did it! We held the line!”

??“These agents are no joke!”

??“That girl’s scarier than the monsters!”

??…

??But just as the crowd began to relax, thinking it was finally over, new shadows appeared on the distant hillside—advancing swiftly beneath the last sliver of sunset…
