Chapter 23: Yeah! I’m Crazy Strong!

????At that very mont, inside the Ninghang City military base—

??Bai Yu was running diagnostics on her body with the base’s testing apparatus, only to discover—astonishingly—that every one of her stats had surged by over fifty percent since her last check.

??“How is this even possible?”

??She couldn’t help but frown, bewildered.

??It was hard to believe her physical abilities could have skyrocketed so dramatically overnight.

??“Bai Yu, what are you up to?”

??Suddenly, Liu Qian pushed open the door, curiosity shining in her eyes.

??“Nothing much.”

??Bai Yu shook her head, then shot back, “It’s late. Why aren’t you asleep?”

??“Ugh… With everything going on, how am I supposed to sleep?”

??Liu Qian let out a long, helpless sigh. “Now I’ve suddenly beco so kind of target. Talk about rotten luck!”

??“Have you spoken to your aunt? Maybe she knows sothing.” Bai Yu reminded her gently.

??“I did. Auntie told

not to worry.” Liu Qian replied, “She said the Ninghang City Investigation Bureau is pulling out all the stops to get to the bottom of this.”

??“Now that you ntion it, there were two new agents at the safehouse.” Bai Yu recalled noticing unfamiliar faces at the base earlier that day.

??“I hope that’s true. This whole thing feels like a nightmare…” Liu Qian exhaled again, slumping further. “I was never cut out for law enforcent. Why did I ever take this job in Ninghang City? I must’ve been out of my mind!”

??“Don’t overthink it. Once we catch whoever’s behind this, you’ll be safe again.” Bai Yu offered softly.

??“I wish I could be like those Investigation Bureau agents…” Liu Qian pressed her palms together, a hint of longing in her voice. “If only I had so kind of Ability like they do—I wouldn’t have to hide all the ti.”

??“An Ability, huh…”

??Bai Yu fell silent for a mont.

??Just then, a figure drifted into the room, her voice soft yet direct:

??“What makes you think being an agent is easy?”

??“Miss Li Hongyou?”

??Both won turned at once, eyes landing on Li Hongyou, who hovered lightly in the air.

??“It’s late. Did sothing happen?” Bai Yu asked.

??“I’m here to inform you—” Li Hongyou looked at Liu Qian, her tone calm. “If you encounter danger you can’t handle, I’ll evacuate you imdiately. That’s the latest order from the Investigation Bureau.”

??“Just ?” Liu Qian imdiately grabbed Bai Yu’s hand. “If it cos to that, can you take Bai Yu too? She’s my best friend!”

??“Bringing one more isn’t a problem.” Li Hongyou shrugged, unconcerned. “Honestly, I doubt anything special will happen. It’s just a bunch of zombies.”

??“Um…”

??Bai Yu took a step forward, eting her gaze. “Are you… very strong?”

??A confident smile flickered at the corner of Li Hongyou’s lips.

??“Yeah. I’m crazy strong.”

??…

??Baihai City, Third District.

??“F-grade Anomaly Alert! Everyone, be on guard!”

??“Hurry! Get to the shelters—now!”

??“A monster! There’s a monster!”

??“Run for your lives!”

??Under the constables’ direction, the citizens of Baihai City hurried toward the nearest shelters.

??Not far away, a hulking creature—its entire body seemingly hewn from living stone—was rampaging down the street, leaving devastation in its wake.

??Two Investigation Bureau agents had already arrived on the scene, but for now, their efforts barely slowed the beast.

??“Damn it! My flas don’t even scratch it!”

??A young agent hurled fireballs the size of fists from his fingertips, but when they struck the monster’s stony hide, it was like striking a mountain: utterly ineffective.

??“Mao Hao! Aim for its eyes—I’ll draw its attention!”

??The older agent shouted, raising a custom-made shield and charging headlong at the stone monster.

??“Hold it right there, monster!”

??He threw his full weight into the shield, slamming it against the creature’s right leg.

??BANG!

??With a thunderous crack, the monster’s right leg shattered into rubble!

??“Nice one, Master!” Mao Hao shouted, adrenaline surging.

??But before the words had even left his mouth, the ruined leg instantly reford—good as new.

??Almost simultaneously, the monster swung a massive stone fist, sending debris flying as it hamred the shield-bearing agent with devastating force.

??BOOM!

??The impact sent the man hurtling dozens of ters, crashing through a building and burying him in the rubble.

??The sight made Mao Hao’s blood run cold. He muttered, “How… how can this be…”

??The stone monster, having dealt with the shield agent, ignored Mao Hao entirely and lumbered on toward the fleeing crowds.

??“No—I have to stop it!”

??But…

??My flas…!

??Mao Hao stood frozen, torn by a storm of doubt.

??His fire couldn’t harm the creature at all—not even leave a mark.

??That’s it!

??This monster must be immune to fire!

??In front of it—

??I’m no different from an ordinary person!

??I—

??“I can’t do it!”

??Mao Hao collapsed to his knees, trembling, eyes squeezed shut. His will to fight had crumbled.

??The next mont, the ground began to tremble violently.

??A deafening cheer erupted from the crowd.

??“We’re saved!”

??“That monster… it’s been burned to ash by golden flas!”

??“She’s so strong! Is she an agent too?”

??“The Bureau must’ve sent soone even stronger to back them up!”

??“Is she a knight? She looks so cool!”

??“Look! She’s got glowing bunny ears!”

??…

??“Huh?”

??The noise jolted Mao Hao from his daze. He slowly opened his eyes—

??The stone monster had been reduced to a pile of shattered rubble.

??Standing beside it was a woman clad in Platinum Armor, golden flas swirling around her, the sound of the crowd’s cheers ringing in her ears.

??“Who… is she?”

??Mao Hao stared in disbelief. “Wasn’t that thing immune to fire? How did she—?”

??“It wasn’t immune to fire. You simply haven’t mastered your own Strength yet.”

??A voice sounded at his side.

??Mao Hao turned to see a man in a Sli Mask standing next to him, the injured older agent slumped over his shoulder.

??“Master!”

??Mao Hao hurriedly took his wounded teacher, anxiously checking him over.

??“He just passed out—his life isn’t in danger,” Bai Xuan explained calmly.

??“Thank you!” Mao Hao blurted out, then couldn’t help but ask, “Were you serious? The reason I couldn’t defeat that monster… is it really because I haven’t learned how to use my Strength?”

??“That’s right.”

??“Then… can you teach ? Please!”

??“That’s your own Strength. How you use it is sothing you’ll have to figure out for yourself.” Bai Xuan replied coolly.

??He’d never been much good at teaching others how to wield their powers. But if a few words could help an agent regain their confidence, he didn’t mind saying them.

??Teaching others...

??Yeah, that wasn’t his forte.

??“I have to figure it out myself…” Mao Hao fell into deep thought.

??Just then, Serene returned to Bai Xuan’s side, speaking in a low voice, “Master, the stone golem has been eliminated.”

??“Mm. Let’s go ho.”

??Bai Xuan had just turned to leave when a familiar voice rang out over the chaos:

??“We’ve got wounded here! Get them to the dics, now!”

??“Huh?”

??Bai Xuan looked back in surprise—only to see Liu Qian, dressed in dical scrubs, standing directly in his line of sight…
