Chapter 15: The Succubus’s Tail!
????Morning light crept softly into the room.
??Bai Xuan erged from sleep to find, dangling right before his eyes, a dark-golden, heart-shaped tail swaying gently in the air.
??“Huh?”
??He froze, staring in disbelief, wide-eyed and speechless.
??What on earth is this?
??A succubus’s tail?
??Whose tail could it be?
??Wait—could it belong to Serene?
??Let
see for myself!
??Without hesitation, Bai Xuan reached out to touch the mysterious tail.
??But before his fingers could make contact, the heart-shaped tip recoiled, flicking away like a bashful maiden and vanishing from sight.
??…?
??Perplexed, Bai Xuan sat up and glanced over at Serene, who was still sprawled out on the floor, lost in her dreams.
??Besides that heart-shaped tail, he could also make out two faint, dark-gold demon horns peeking from her hair.
??She looked exactly like the succubi he’d seen in fantasy illustrations.
??But…
??Why was her tail moving on its own while she slept?
??Was her body separate from her tail, each with a will of its own?
??As Bai Xuan watched the tail, he had the uncanny sense that it was observing him in return.
??Curiosity gnawed at him, but every ti he tried to touch it, the tail would dart away yet again.
??At last, he could only give up.
??He glanced at the clock. Only 6:30 a.m.
??Oddly enough, despite having slept just six hours, he felt completely refreshed, full of energy.
??After a quick wash, Bai Xuan headed to the living room, settled onto the sofa, and pulled up the mission map.
??Just one more mission, and he’d have enough for another Legendary Summon!
??“Ninghang City’s Anomalous Disasters… all cleared already?”
??He arched a brow. Every red dot on the map had gone dark.
??So, it looked like he’d need to search for missions in other cities.
??He didn’t have to wait long before a mission called “Sinfire” caught his attention.
??“I’ll wait for Serene to wake up first,” he murmured, then took out the ruby-like fragnt from the Book of Worlds.
??Bathed in the morning sunlight, he examined the crimson, crystalline shard, questions swirling through his mind.
??A gemstone?
??Or perhaps a scale from so unknown creature?
??Why was it hidden inside the Sunlight Sli?
??He was still lost in thought when footsteps sounded outside the door.
??Is Yu-jie back?
??Before he could finish the thought, the door swung open.
??Two voices floated in from the entryway:
??“Bai Yu, hope we’re not interrupting?”
??“It’s fine. Only my little brother’s ho—he should still be asleep at this hour—” Bai Yu cut herself off as both pairs of eyes landed squarely on Bai Xuan, seated on the sofa.
??“…”
??“Morning,” Bai Xuan said, giving Bai Yu a small wave, trying to ease the awkwardness.
??“…”
??After a mont, Bai Yu introduced him, “This is my younger brother, Bai Xuan.”
??“Hi there~”
??Liu Qian smiled and waved at Bai Xuan, then leaned in to whisper to Bai Yu, “Your brother’s adorable! But… he doesn’t really look like you, does he?”
??“We’re not related by blood,” Bai Yu replied casually as she walked further inside.
??“Not related?” Liu Qian blinked, surprised, then followed her in.
??Just as Bai Xuan thought they only had one guest, a familiar figure floated through the doorway—
??Li Hongyou!
??That telekinetic Anomaly!
??“Sorry to intrude,” Li Hongyou said, her voice cool and indifferent as she hovered into the apartnt.
??“Bai Xuan,” Bai Yu said, coming over, “this is Liu Qian, my colleague at the Security Bureau—and my classmate from the Police Academy.”
??“Nice to et you, Sister Liu.”
??“Nice to et you too~ Bai Yu’s my best friend! Since you’re her brother, if you ever need anything, just ask , okay?”
??“Really?”
??“Of course!”
??“And this is…” Bai Yu turned to the other girl, “Miss Li Hongyou from the Investigation Bureau.”
??“Hello.”
??Bai Xuan greeted her, his eyes falling on the petite girl in the red qipao, her hair tied in a bun, cheeks round with lingering baby fat—a picture of cuteness.
??Yet her gaze seed distant, as if she drifted through her own world, barely registering those around her.
??She only responded to Bai Xuan’s greeting with a quiet “Mm.”
??“We need to discuss sothing. Could you wait in your room for a bit?” Bai Yu said gently.
??“Oh, sure.”
??Bai Xuan nodded obediently and made his way to the study, booting up his computer and launching a ga.
??Still, he couldn’t help but listen in on the conversation from the living room.
??“Your brother’s so well-behaved,” Liu Qian said, watching Bai Xuan’s retreating figure. “He seems like a really good kid.”
??“Don’t be fooled by looks,” Bai Yu rolled her eyes.
??No one knew better than she did what Bai Xuan was really like.
??Not a bad kid, exactly, but “well-behaved” wasn’t the word she’d use.
??“Ugh, I’m so unlucky!” Liu Qian groaned, collapsing onto the sofa. “Why did those zombies have to target ?!”
??“Don’t worry,” Bai Yu reassured her. “The Bureau’s arranged a safe house. I’ll go with you, and Miss Li Hongyou will be there to protect you. You’ll be fine.”
??“I hope so…” Liu Qian still looked uneasy. “They said it’s related to my aunt, too. She warned
about this, and I didn’t listen—guess she saw it coming. I’m such an idiot!”
??“There, there, don’t overthink it. You’ll be fine.”
??“…”
??The zombies were after her? Bai Xuan listened in, surprised.
??He hadn’t expected Liu Qian to be the zombies’ target.
??But thinking back… she had always been present at the scenes, hadn’t she?
??“Hey, kid! You’re dead!”
??Suddenly, a voice rang out right next to Bai Xuan’s ear, making him jump.
??His hand slipped, and his character in the ga failed to dodge the boss’s attack—one hit, instant death.
??Bai Xuan arched a brow and turned, startled to find the Investigation Bureau agent, Li Hongyou, floating behind him, staring at his screen.
??“That run was already a bust. Doesn’t matter if I died,” he replied calmly.
??“Giving up so easily? You really have no perseverance, kid.”
??Li Hongyou tossed out the jab, but kept her eyes on his gaplay.
??“So… you’re a Supernatural, right?” Bai Xuan asked, his hands still moving over the keyboard.
??“Can humans fly?”
??“No.”
??“Then why ask?”
??“…”
??Bai Xuan fell silent. This girl was not easy to talk to.
??He turned his attention back to the ga, challenging the boss again.
??This ti, even with only a sliver of health left, he didn’t give up. He dodged flawlessly over a dozen tis and finally took down the boss.
??“Why didn’t you give up this ti?” Li Hongyou asked, eyeing him.
??“Didn’t you just tell
not to give up?” Bai Xuan shot her a glance.
??“You’re more obedient than you look, kid,” Li Hongyou said, squinting at him with sothing almost like approval.
??“Why do you keep calling
‘kid’?” Bai Xuan looked her up and down. “You don’t look much older than .”
??Honestly, with her petite fra and round cheeks, she barely looked like an adult—aside from that icy attitude.
??“Hmph~” Li Hongyou crossed her arms and let out a soft snort.
??“Age doesn’t matter. It’s experience that counts. Brats like you who are still in school just wouldn’t understand. When you reach my level, you’ll get it.”
??“…?”
