Chapter 252: Ongoing Worries

Zinnia stood in Jas’s hospital room for a mont longer, feeling the weight of unanswered questions pressing down on her. His calm deanor did little to ease her worry. She sighed, realizing she wouldn’t get the clarity she needed here.

"I’m glad you’re doing better, Jas," she said, managing a small, strained smile. "Take care of yourself."

Jas returned her smile, though it was tinged with concern. "Thanks, Zinnia. And I hope you find the answers you’re looking for. If I hear anything, I’ll let you know."

She nodded, gripping the strap of her bag tightly as she turned to leave. The hallway outside felt colder, emptier than before. Her footsteps echoed softly as she made her way back to her father’s room, her thoughts a tangled ss of worry for Samuel, frustration at the lack of answers, and the ever-present concern for her father.

When she entered Ricardo’s hospital room, she saw her mother sitting by his bedside, her hands clasped tightly together. Elena’s eyes were fixed on Ricardo’s face, her expression a mix of hope and quiet longing. The beeping of the heart monitor and the faint hum of hospital equipnt filled the otherwise silent room.

"Mom," Zinnia said softly, not wanting to startle her.

Elena turned, her eyes lighting up slightly at the sight of her daughter. "Zinnia. Did you find anything out?"

Zinnia shook her head, lowering herself into the chair beside her mother. "No. Jas is being discharged, but he doesn’t know anything about what’s happening with Lucas Realty. I couldn’t reach Samuel or Timmy either. Their phones are still off."

Elena’s brow furrowed, and she reached out to squeeze Zinnia’s hand. "I’m sorry, sweetheart. I know how hard this is for you."

Zinnia leaned back in her chair, letting out a weary sigh. "I just feel so powerless, Mom. Everything’s falling apart, and I don’t even know where Samuel is. What if he’s in trouble? What if..." Her voice trailed off, the words too difficult to say aloud.

Elena gave her hand another reassuring squeeze. "Samuel is strong, Zinnia. Whatever’s going on, I believe he’ll find a way through it. And you’re not powerless. You’re doing everything you can."

Zinnia looked over at her father, his face peaceful but unnervingly still. "And Dad... he’s still not awake. I just... I don’t know how much more of this I can take."

Elena’s gaze softened as she followed her daughter’s line of sight. "He’s a fighter, Zinnia. The doctor said he’s stable, and that’s a good sign. We just have to keep hoping and praying."

Zinnia nodded, but the tightness in her chest didn’t ease. She leaned forward, resting her elbows on her knees and burying her face in her hands. "I wish I could talk to Samuel. Even if he just told

he’s okay... it would help."

Elena placed a comforting hand on Zinnia’s back, rubbing gentle circles. "You’ll hear from him. You just have to give it ti. For now, focus on what you can do—being here for your dad, staying strong."

Zinnia lifted her head, her eyes glistening with unshed tears. "You’re right, Mom. I need to be here for Dad and for you. I just wish... I wish things didn’t feel so out of control."

Elena smiled softly, brushing a strand of hair away from Zinnia’s face. "Life has a way of testing us when we least expect it. But you’re stronger than you think, sweetheart. You’ll get through this, and so will Samuel."

Zinnia took a deep breath, trying to steady herself. "Thanks, Mom. I don’t know what I’d do without you."

Elena’s eyes shone with affection. "You’ll never have to find out, my dear. We’re in this together."

They sat in silence for a while, the steady rhythm of Ricardo’s heart monitor a quiet reminder of his presence. Zinnia watched her father, willing him to wake up, to open his eyes, and give her even the smallest sign that he was still fighting.

Finally, Zinnia spoke again, her voice barely above a whisper. "Do you think he can hear us?"

Elena nodded, her expression resolute. "I believe he can. Talk to him, Zinnia. Let him know you’re here."

Zinnia hesitated for a mont before leaning closer to her father. She reached out, gently taking his hand in hers. "Hi, Dad," she said softly. "It’s . I’m here, and Mom’s here too. We’re waiting for you to wake up. No rush, but... we miss you."

Her voice caught, but she swallowed the lump in her throat and continued. "You’ve always been my rock, Dad. And I know you’re strong enough to get through this. So, please... keep fighting. We need you."

Elena placed a hand on Zinnia’s shoulder, her eyes glistening with tears. "He knows, Zinnia. He knows we’re here."

As the evening drew closer, the hospital room felt colder, the passing hours blending together in a haze of uncertainty. Zinnia couldn’t shake the restless feeling that had settled deep in her chest. Her father’s condition still hadn’t changed, and despite her mother’s words of reassurance, a lingering fear hovered over her like a shadow.

"Mom, I think we should head back to the apartnt for a bit," Zinnia said, breaking the silence as she stood up from her chair. Her voice was tinged with exhaustion, but there was determination in her eyes. "I need to get a few things—so clothes, maybe so toiletries. I’m going to stay here with Dad tonight."

Elena glanced at her daughter, her face softening with understanding. She had been thinking the sa thing. "You’re right," Elena said, standing up as well. "We need to be prepared. And I don’t want you running out of anything while you’re here."

Zinnia nodded, but the idea of leaving her father’s side, even for a short ti, made her uneasy. She had been there for hours, watching over him, hoping for so sign that he was still fighting. But she knew that she couldn’t stay in the hospital indefinitely without at least taking a brief break to gather herself.
