After 23 years, Rosalind Fairchild had assud Adriana Frost was nothing but a pile of bones.

But who would have thought she’d be here now, lying in a hospital bed with a book splayed open on the blankets and an IV line hanging above her.

While ill, Adriana Frost possessed a strange, static kind of beauty.

It was the beauty of one who had weathered countless storms, a serene acceptance of whatever might befall her.

For instance, her sudden visit caused no emotional ripples in Adriana Frost whatsoever.

She even managed to smile and say, "Long ti no see."

Rosalind Fairchild gritted her teeth. Adriana Frost’s serenity was sothing she’d never be able to learn in her entire life.

It seed nothing could make Adriana Frost laugh out loud or break down in tears.

No matter what she encountered, she always wore that sa faint smile.

And yet, just thinking of the nas ’Adriana Frost’ and ’Jenna Axton’ was enough to make Rosalind agitated.

Now that her suspicions were confird, her heart had, contrary to expectation, settled.

Rosalind Fairchild strode in, locking the hospital room door behind her.

"I never thought Jenna Axton would turn out to be Adriana Frost."

Jenna Axton smiled faintly. "I have you to thank for how well I’ve lived all these years."

Rosalind Fairchild had always, truly, utterly despised the way Adriana Frost reacted so placidly to everything.

No matter what she said, she could never seem to inflict the slightest bit of harm on Adriana Frost.

This feeling of powerlessness left her with nowhere to vent her frustration.

"To think you actually survived. Just as expected of the adopted daughter raised by a prestigious dical family."

The drug was so potent, and the man had been carrying a deadly virus, yet Adriana Frost had actually lived for twenty-three years and even given birth to that little bitch, Luna Axton.

If that wasn’t a dical miracle, what was!

Jenna Axton’s expression turned cold. "I knew you were behind it. You really went too far, tampering with my drink at Susie’s funeral. However..."

Jenna Axton paused, folded the corner of a page to mark her spot, and set the book aside.

"The man I was with that night wasn’t the one you arranged."

Rosalind Fairchild’s eyes narrowed. "So that’s what happened!"

"Hah." Jenna Axton let out a soft, scornful laugh. "With a mind like yours, you can only hurt the people who love and trust you."

As Rosalind Fairchild’s expression soured, Jenna Axton continued,

"Like your sister-in-law, Susie, your brother, Ian Fairchild, and... Blaze... Fairchild!"

With her secrets laid bare, Rosalind Fairchild’s face instantly turned dark and nacing.

"Oh!" Jenna Axton feigned a gasp. "But it looks like you didn’t succeed, did you? The one who married Blaze is Luna—my daughter. I’m truly curious what sort of woman you had planned for Blaze."

"Soone with big breasts and an empty head, like you? Or..."

"Adriana Frost, shut your mouth!"

The thing Rosalind Fairchild hated most in this life was people calling her unintelligent or brainless.

Susie had said it.

And so, Susie died.

"Rosalind Fairchild, you’re nearly fifty, yet you’re still so impulsive and quick to anger!"

Rosalind Fairchild finally snapped. She threw her expensive, limited-edition handbag to the floor, rushed over to Jenna Axton, and ripped the IV tube from her arm.

But Jenna Axton t her with a slap across the face that sent her head snapping to the side.

Jenna had been holding back that slap for twenty-three years, and she poured all of her strength into it.

Ignoring the sting from the dislodged needle and the sight of her own blood, she panted softly.

"That was for Susie."

"Rosalind Fairchild, if you see from now on, you’d better walk the other way."

"And don’t you dare get any ideas about my daughter. You can’t afford to provoke her biological father. Even your own father won’t be able to protect you."

The slap left Rosalind Fairchild’s ears ringing, her mind buzzing like a swarm of bees.

She was completely stunned, unable to react for a mont.

But now, hearing those four words—"can’t afford to provoke"—she lost control and completely erupted.

’She, the great heiress of the Fairchild Family, had actually been slapped by soone half-dead.’

’If word of this got out, how could she ever show her face in Valoria again?’

’Today, she had to teach Adriana Frost a lesson.’

Having lost all reason, Rosalind Fairchild grabbed a nearby throw pillow and tried to smother Jenna Axton’s face with it.

Her face contorted with rage, she snarled, "You bitch, you dare hit ? You’re asking to die! There’s no one in Valoria I’m afraid to cross."

The more frantic Rosalind Fairchild beca, the calr Jenna Axton grew.

Her muffled voice ca from beneath the pillow. "Luna is Russell Frost’s daughter!"

The words were muffled by the pillow, but Rosalind Fairchild heard them perfectly.

Jenna Axton’s words struck like a bolt from the blue; Rosalind Fairchild couldn’t believe it.

"Impossible... Impossible."

’Back then, Russell Frost, the older brother who had always been most protective of Adriana Frost, had already taken a key post at an embassy abroad. He wasn’t even in the country.’

’She’d confird everything before making her move. How could it be Russel?’

Able to breathe again, Jenna Axton took slow, deep breaths, her eyes fixed on the necklace around Rosalind Fairchild’s neck.

It was a simple necklace with a snowflake pendant. The chain had been replaced, and the pendant itself showed signs of repair.

It was clear that Rosalind Fairchild treasured it.

Because it was the coming-of-age gift Russell Frost had given her, and it was the only gift he’d ever given her.

"If you dare lay a single finger on Luna, I’ll go find Russell Frost imdiately. Do you want him to know what kind of person you really are?"

’No! No!’

’Luna Axton... is actually Russel’s child?’

’Russel and Adriana Frost... they’re brother and sister! This is... incest!’

’No, that’s not right. They’re not related by blood. Adriana Frost was adopted.’

’Old Mrs. Frost had always wanted a daughter, so she’d chosen to adopt after having two sons.’

’They aren’t real siblings.’

’She had always seen how specially Russel treated Adriana Frost and had been jealous of it.’

’But still, how could they... have slept together!’

Rosalind Fairchild couldn’t accept it. She just wanted to get out of this place and make the nightmare end.

Amid a flurry of chaotic movent, the door was flung open.

Utterly exhausted, Jenna Axton used the last of her strength to press the call bell.

"Bed 3, what’s the matter?"

"My IV needle ca out. Could you please help with it?"

The nurse ca in response to the call. She saw the blood on the floor but, accustod to such sights, thought little of it. She simply switched to the other hand and reinserted the IV.

Jenna Axton stared at the dripping liquid. She knew that, for now, this was all she could do for Luna and Blaze.

The love-obsessed Rosalind Fairchild wouldn’t want to see Adriana Frost and Russell Frost’s nas linked together, and she certainly wouldn’t want the perfect image she’d cultivated for him to be shattered.

Therefore, Rosalind Fairchild wouldn’t dare to harm Luna.

「In the dead of night」

A vibrating phone woke Blaze Fairchild.

Luna Axton, sleeping soundly as was common during her pregnancy, didn’t hear the vibration at all.

He pushed himself up, picked up Luna Axton’s phone, and answered it.

"Hello?"

"Hello, is this a relative of Jenna Axton?"

"Yes."

"Please co to the Hepatology Hospital imdiately."

Blaze Fairchild got out of bed, walked to the window, and lowered his voice. "Has sothing happened to Jenna Axton?"

"She’s in intensive care."

"Okay, I’m on my way."

Everyone in the departnt knew about Jenna Axton in Bed 3; they knew she had a son-in-law who was a powerful business tycoon.

The doctor on duty, knowing it was Blaze Fairchild who had answered, reminded him, "The dical forms have to be signed by a next of kin."

"Understood."

Luna Axton had already woken up when Blaze Fairchild got out of bed. In a half-asleep daze, she assud sothing had happened with his company.

But then she saw the four-leaf clover charm on the phone in his hand and realized it was hers.

The late-night phone call jolted her wide awake. "What’s wrong with my mom?" she asked in a panic.
