Chapter 1034: Chapter 335: The Oncology Departnt’s Hereditary Patient

Jingzhou in May was already getting a bit hot. Old Tang was changing clothes in his office—he was heading to the hospital again. At this point, he had to go basically every month.

One reason was for check-ups, and the other was to buy dication. Late-stage cancer, after all—you had to use the prescribed drugs, even if just to make a token effort.

Switching into a casual outfit, Old Tang left Tengda and hailed a cab straight to Handong Province’s First Hospital.

But he didn’t know that, right after he left, Wang Qingqing was heading into Old Wang’s office.

“Second Uncle, what’s up? You called over when I’m swamped,” Wang Qingqing said with a frown.

Old Wang glared at her. “Swamped with what? Old Tang’s already gone, so what could you possibly be busy with? I call for you just to talk about sothing, and that’s too much to ask?”

“Of course I’m busy!” Wang Qingqing fired back with a glare of her own. “I’ve been learning this ancient tea-brewing technique; it takes a ton of practice. Tang loves drinking it…”

Ancient tea-brewing technique?

Old Wang froze for a mont. “Are you talking about the tea from last ti—the one that you added mashed garlic and ginger to?”

“Yeah, I researched that all on my own!”

Old Wang’s brow imdiately furrowed. “Old Tang likes that? Is he sick to the point of losing his sense of taste… Ahem, Qingqing, Second Uncle isn’t implying anything. The tea you make is fine. Really tasty.”

“That’s more like it. Second Uncle, how about another cup then? This is the 2.0 version of my ancient tea technique. I added Sichuan peppercorns and aged tangerine peel…”

She left the office as she spoke, and before long, returned with a steaming cup of tea. The sight of it almost made Old Wang gag.

Still, under his niece’s eager gaze, Old Wang had no choice but to steel himself, take the tea, and down it in one gulp. The taste—indescribable. Suffice it to say, Old Wang felt he’d never drunk anything worse in his entire life.

Such a lovely niece—how co it feels like spending ti with Old Tang is driving her a bit nuts?

That was Old Wang’s prevailing sentint. Frankly, the whole atmosphere at the firm seed unusual to him.

Whether it was young lawyers or older ones, every single one of them seed a little off—could the rumors actually be true? That spending too much ti with Old Tang would ss with your head?

Could it be that I, Wang Daming, am the only normal person in the entire firm?

Wang Qingqing, of course, had no idea what her Second Uncle was thinking. Seeing that he’d finished the tea, she finally spoke up. “Alright, Second Uncle, tell —what exactly did you call here for?”

Old Wang’s expression turned serious as he said, “Qingqing, do you know the current status of Old Tang’s illness?”

“Illness?” Wang Qingqing pondered for a mont before asking, “Are we talking about cancer or his ntal health?”

“Obviously the cancer!” Old Wang snapped irritably.

“No idea. Tang doesn’t let go with him to hospital visits, does the check-ups on his own, and never shares the results. What’s wrong, Second Uncle? Is there a problem?” Wang Qingqing asked, puzzled.

Old Wang furrowed his brow again. “I heard it from others at the firm. Have you noticed lately how many of Old Tang’s problems he’s solving by throwing money at them?”

“Just look at last ti—how much he spent on those legal consulting companies. And this ti, he’s talking about covering wages for employees at those car dealerships. He’s spending left and right, and it’s not a small amount!”

“Sure, he’s always treated money like it’s nothing, but recently, he’s been spending way too lavishly. I’m starting to feel like sothing isn’t right…”

Upon hearing this, Wang Qingqing’s expression turned grim. “Second Uncle, are you saying… Old Tang might…?”

“It’s not impossible. Which might explain why he’s been spending recklessly lately,” Old Wang replied.

This was also a recent tidbit circulating on the internet—rumors that Tang Fangjing was nearing the end of his road, and was on a spending spree because of it. So, it was advised not to provoke him during this period.

“That’s why, after Old Tang gets back from his check-up today, we need to sit down and have a talk with him,” Old Wang concluded.

Wang Qingqing silently left the office, forgetting even to take her beloved tea cup with her.

Soon, afternoon arrived, and Old Tang’s check-up results were out. He was chatting away with Old Guo.

“Lawyer Tang, your condition is really holding steady. The brain tastasis we detected last ti hasn’t grown any larger. At least for now, you’re not facing any major issues,” Old Guo said, carefully studying the report.

Old Tang nodded, then glanced at Old Guo and suddenly spoke up. “Huh, Director Guo, how co I just noticed you actually have white hair now?”

Old Guo chuckled at the comnt. “I’m at that age, plus working in a high-stress hospital. Isn’t it normal to have so white hair? Speaking of which, I’m almost at retirent age.”

“Huh?” This ti, it was Old Tang’s turn to be surprised. “You’re almost retired? I rember when I first ca to see you, you were still full of vigor.”

“Exactly, Lawyer Tang. It’s common knowledge—I’m surprised too. We’ve known each other for years now. Isn’t it natural for to retire?”

Old Tang furrowed his brow in deep thought for a while before finally saying, “But Director Guo, if you retire, what am I going to do? You’re the only one who can manage my illness.”

Hearing this, Old Guo waved his hand dismissively. “Don’t worry, Lawyer Tang. Hey, Old Chen! Co here for a sec!”

Soon enough, another doctor, looking just as experienced yet significantly younger, walked over. “Director, you called ?”

Old Guo nodded and gestured toward Old Tang. “Old Chen, this is Lawyer Tang, one of the best patients I’ve had. Once I retire, he’ll be yours to manage.”

“Lawyer Tang, this is our departnt’s deputy director. He should beco director soon, so I’m confident handing you over to him. Besides, even after retirent, I’ll likely be rehired on a contract. There’s no need to worry.”

Old Tang finally let out a sigh of relief. “That’s a relief, then. Director Chen, I’ll be counting on you to handle my illness from now on.”
