Dr Patel sat on the edge of his bed, the phone still warm in his hand. The room was quiet except for the low hum of the air conditioner. He still has no idea what to do with the information he has just received or how to react. He reached for the remote on the nightstand and clicked the TV on, more out of habit than anything. He always checks the morning news as soon as he wakes up, especially to see the weather.
But, it was noon.
The news channel filled the screen almost imdiately.
’’BREAKING: HIGHEST COMPATIBILITY RATE IN HISTORY CONFIRD – 96.7% BETWEEN MYSTERY ALPHA AND DOMINANT OGA’’
The anchor looked excited, eyes wide. "Sources from the National Matching Centre have confird the unprecedented result. This is the first ti any pair has broken the 90% barrier, and experts are calling it a once-in-a-lifeti phenonon. The identities of the Alpha and Oga remain classified for security reasons, but the governnt has already begun discussions about protection protocols and future arrangents..."
Patel groaned and muted the TV. He didn’t need to hear the rest. He already knew the nas of the mystery Alpha and dominant oga.
He opened his phone and the sa news welcod him. Social dia was exploding. Hashtags like #96Point7, #MysteryCouple, and #PerfectMatch were trending worldwide. Comnts scrolled endlessly:
- "60% was the old record and that was in Europe twenty years ago. This has to be fake."
- "If it’s real, the governnt will force them to marry. That’s how it works with dominant ogas."
- "I need nas. Pictures. Sothing! Anything!"
- "I bet the Alpha is loaded. No way a normal person gets that rate."
- "I wonder if the Oga is male or female."
Patel locked the phone and rubbed his temples. His head hurt. He walked to the kitchen, poured a glass of water, and drank it in one go. The cold helped a little.
He stared at the empty glass.
If Elias found out Viktor was the one driving the car that killed his parents, everything would fall apart.
The match, the heat they spent together, the possibility of a future; it’ll be all gone. Elias would hate him. And the governnt? They would still push, because 96.7% was too valuable to let personal feelings get in the way.
"I can’t let him know about it," Patel whispered to himself. "Not yet. Not ever, if I can help it. I must not let anyone find out about that day,"
He was supposed to be off today. He had planned to sleep, watch old movies, and maybe cook sothing nice for himself. Instead, he showered fast, threw on a shirt and trousers, and drove to the Matching Centre. He hated working but he loved his job.
The lobby was buzzing when he walked in. Nurses and junior doctors whispered the mont they saw him.
"Dr Patel? You’re here on your day off?"
"I thought you blocked all our numbers since today was your off day!"
He ignored them and headed for the elevator. He knew the rumour about his secret nickna... Workaholic doctor. He couldn’t hide the fact that he truly lived up to his nickna. A young nurse ran after him.
"Doctor! Young Master Nathan is here. The president wants you in his office."
Patel stopped. "Of course he does. How the hell does he know I’m here?"
"Ah... I wonder," she nervously scratched the back of her head. "Anyway, he has asked that you co as soon as possible,"
Patel groaned as he took the elevator to the top floor. The president’s office door was open. Inside, President Raymond sat behind his huge desk. And there, leaning against the roof-to-floor window, was Nathan; dressed in a sharp navy suit, hair neat, no smirk, no ssy vibe. He looked... responsible. He was different from the regular Playboy that he was.
Nathan turned and actually smiled. A real smile.
"Dr Patel. Good afternoon."
Patel blinked twice. "Did I walk into the wrong building?"
Raymond laughed, loud and deep.
"That’s what I said! My son woke up one day and decided to beco an adult. I still don’t know why, but I’m not complaining. I prefer this version of him,"
Nathan shrugged. "People change. Why can’t I, Father?"
"Of course, people change. But your kind of change is... shocking,"
Nathan gave a small laugh as he adjusted his hand inside his pocket.
Raymond leaned forward.
"Sit, Patel. We have things to discuss. That 96.7% is all over the news. The board is losing its mind on the matter. The council wants the pair registered and protected imdiately."
"I see. I’m sure that’s not why you called for , Sir," Patel sat slowly. "What do you want...?"
Raymond leaned back as he grinned.
"You know too well, Patel. What I want is simple. I want Elias safe," Raymond said. "And I don’t want him anywhere near Viktor Drago. That man is dangerous. Brutal. We can’t have our most valuable dominant oga tied to soone like him."
Patel stayed quiet. He doesn’t know what the president was thinking but it would be practically impossible to separate those two.
Raymond continued.
"Nathan has decided to step up. He’ll be working in one of my companies; not this one. I’m arranging it so Elias gets a job at the sa place after graduation. Close proximity. Natural connection. I’m sure they’ll be able to build a sweet connection if they are together,"
Nathan pushed off the window. "All I need is for Elias to work at the sa company. I’ll take it from there. Elias saved my life. I owe him a lot. And I’m sure our rate will be high too if we do a test. Maybe not 96, but high enough."
Patel raised an eyebrow. "You’re suddenly very confident."
Nathan smiled again, softer this ti. "I know what I want now and that’s Elias Kane,"
Raymond clapped his hands once.
"Perfect. Patel, your job is simple. Keep Elias away from Drago. Convince him to move into the Oga Estate as soon as possible. It’s safer, fully monitored, and Drago won’t be able to walk in whenever he wants."
Patel hesitated. "He’s not at the Voss house anymore. He moved back to his old apartnt with Lila."
Raymond frowned. "That rundown place? What if the roof falls on them?"
"Exactly," Nathan added. "We need him on the estate. Today, if possible."
Patel sighed. "I’ll talk to him. But I should remind you that Elias is a difficult person and it’ll be very hard to convince him."
Raymond nodded. "I know that. And keep the accident file quiet. We don’t need extra drama."
Patel’s stomach dropped. "You know about that?"
"I know everything," Raymond said simply. "You’re dismissed."
"What accident file?" Nathan asked, confused.
Patel stood, legs heavy. He was sure Nathan had no idea about that information but Raymond knew about it.
"You don’t need to know about it, son. Walk Dr Patel to the door,"
Nathan nodded and obeyed his father.
"Hey, Doc," Nathan said quietly. "Thanks for everything you’ve done for him. I an it."
Patel looked at him for a long second. "Just... don’t hurt him, okay?"
Nathan’s eyes softened. "Never."
Patel left the office muttering, "Shit! I should’ve stayed in bed."
He was sure that Raymond was going to keep that information a secret. When things aren’t going his way, he’ll use it to drive Elias and Viktor apart.
.
.
A few hours later. At the university.
Elias closed his notebook and stuffed it into his bag. The lecture hall was emptying fast. His classmates were chatting, laughing, and so were already heading to the cafeteria. The lecture was over for the day, and he was already tired. He wanted to head ho and sleep on the soft bed he got from Viktor.
He was almost at the door when a group surrounded him.
"Elias! Congrats on the scholarship, man!"
"Yeah, full ride! That’s insane!"
He smiled shyly. "Thanks, guys. Really."
He didn’t know most of the students were trying to talk to him but he thanked them.
Then the questions started.
"So... is it true you’re getting matched with Jace Voss?"
"Are you really an Oga? We heard about the incident during the scholarship event,"
"What is the relationship between you and Viktor Drago?"
"Do you guys live together already?"
Elias laughed nervously.
"No, no, nothing like that. We’re not together. Oh! And I’m not matched with Jace. We’re just friends."
"But you spent your heat with Viktor Drago, right?"
"Co on, tell us! We know he hates n and oga,"
"Maybe he’s an exception..."
More and more students gathered. Phones ca out. Elias felt trapped. He took a step back, bumping into a desk.
"Guys, seriously, there’s nothing to tell..."
A hand landed gently but firmly on his shoulder from behind.
"Excuse us," a calm voice said. "Give the man so space, will you?"
The crowd parted instantly. Elias turned around to see who it was.
Soone he knew stood there, tall in his normal outfit with a small smile on his face.
"Hey, Elias," he said softly. "Long ti."
Elias’s eyes went wide.
"You..."
His smile grew.
"Miss ?"
