The bugs charged at us as I stood at the front of the line, watching the bug tsunami flood its way towards us.
I gave my girls a nod before I jumped into the fray, leading the charge at the bugs.
Freyja was already charging ahead of me, my dog looking even scarier than the bugs with its bigger size and intimidating presence.
Amber’s attack hit them first as a fireball came streaking through the air above to crash down in the middle of the bugs, exploding into a wall of flames that burned a good number of the bugs into charred remains.
After that, both Mara and I unleashed our Psionic force, crushing a large chunk of the bugs that were at the flanks and bringing the bugs that had been on the roof down to the ground, flattening them with impunity.
Yumiko slashed her swords next, flinging her blade forward to cut down the bugs that were at the front of the formation before the flying blades returned to her.
Then came Ries’s laughter as she fired her vast armaments of weapons that she had equipped herself with, bombarding the bugs like a moving fortress from the back.
Lea remained where she was, holding her sniper up and waiting with her finger on the trigger, not firing her weapon yet as she advanced slower than everyone else, seemingly looking for specific targets to shoot at instead of the standard bugs.
Renata still brought up the rear and was simply strolling behind like we were on a walk instead of a fight for our lives, her face looking relaxed and unbothered.
Freyja crashed into the bugs’ frontline, shredding through the bugs at the front and turning them into mincemeat while charging through them like they weren’t even there.
I’m pretty sure I’m not imagining it but... Freyja seemed to be enjoying herself quite a lot.
I levitate up into the air, joining Amber and Mara who were also flying overhead.
One of those scythe bugs tried to leap towards us, only for Lea to fire a shot at it that accurately pierced through its head and killed it instantly.
As though that wasn’t enough, the bullet bounced off the ceiling to ricochet into the head of another scythe bug that was also in the midst of trying to jump at us.
A swarm of them tried to jump on Freyja but she spun in a circle and eviscerated them before they could even get close to her.
Mara, Amber and I continued to advance through the cavern as we crushed and burned swaths of the bugs before they could even reach us.
It was at this point that I realised how terrifying Psionics were because we were actually clearing the bugs faster than the dogs... And there had been five hundred of them pared to just the three of us.
I admit, when I was fighting alongside the dogs, I was doing things more conservatively because I didn’t really want to rely too much on my Psionic powers since I had to concentrate for a moment to extend my reach and also to make sure the entire cavern didn’t just collapse because I used too much force.
Additionally, I also had to be careful that the dogs following me aren’t caught up in my force either since I was really worried about accidentally crushing them as well.
But since I had Amber and Mara to count on to back me up in any Psionic related incidents, I decided to just go all out on using Psionic energy to deal with the bugs as well.
And because of that... I was basically smashing entire groups of bugs one after the other before they could even try and claim back the ground they lost.
Any lag time I had while targeting the next group of bugs were filled by girls and Freyja as they shot, sniped and slashed through the horde.
But no doubt, the bugs were definitely standing no chance of even getting close thanks to the three of us pletely thinning out their numbers without letting them recover.
They might have still had the chance to try and attack us at the start but once we got our momentum going, they had absolutely no chance at all.
I waved my hand and shot another wave of Psionic force, this time letting it carve through the ground and push back against the charging bugs directly and blow them all flying back.
I watched in satisfaction as the bugs were flung back to smash into their own rades, their bodies turned into improvised projectiles as they splattered themselves amongst the horde with so much impact that shockwaves exploded around the point of impact and their bodies disintegrated into pieces.
On the other side, Mara was doing the same albeit at a slower pace and smaller scale than me, which wasn’t to say that she was weak since she was still crushing over dozens of bugs at a time and giving them no space to recover.
On the other hand, Amber was pletely in her element as she spun through the air, her fingers flowing in an elaborate dance and directing her flames to burn entire swathes of the bugs and cooking them in the heat.
Even with the roaring of those flames burning within such an enclosed space, the heat from them was never directed at us and piles of ashes were left behind where the bugs once stood.
It was easy to forget that Amber really had the power to just burn entire cities down if she wanted to and even now I could tell she wasn’t even using her full power because she wanted us to have our fun in killing bugs too.
Otherwise... This entire cavern would already be a sea of flames if she really wanted to kill all the bugs.
The cavern we were in was only about half the size of the valley that I came across in the previous nest but we cleared through the entire area with less than a quarter of the time I needed to clear it out with the dogs.
Incidentally, none of the bugs tried to retreat and just tossed themselves at us mindlessly to their deaths even when it was clear that they could not win.
I reached out my hand to the last group of bugs and clenched my fists, crushing all of their heads with a pop and letting their headless corpses tumble onto the ground with a loud thud.
The cavern that had been filled with the skittering sounds of the bugs and gunshots suddenly became silent.
Amber lowered herself from the air until her feet touched the ground with a rather dissatisfied look on her face.
"That’s it? I was kind of expecting more to be honest. They didn’t even have any fireproof bugs? Why couldn’t the military just drop some fire bombs on the planet and let it burn for a year or two to flush them all out? That would solve all the problems!"
Mara landed beside her, "The fire might turn the planet into a fiery wasteland where the fire burns for eternity. They won’t risk that after the last time they tried, the planet became a fireball with an unquenchable fire burning its surface."
"Ah, I almost forgot about that one. Yeah, they probably wouldn’t want to do that, especially with the fact that this planet has so many Prisma crystals..."
All of us looked at the outcroppings of crystals that were scattered around the cavern, their glow being the only source of illumination in the cavern.
I descended to the ground as well, joining my girls amidst the sea of crushed and burned bugs.
"Everyone ok?" I asked, giving all my girls a look.
They all sounded off their readiness, prompting me to survey the cavern which we had just cleared out of bugs.
"Seems like we don’t have a problem wiping them out huh?"
Ries let out a chuckle from within her Power Armour, "Nyahaha! They don’t stand a chance with you leading the way, Boss!! Even if more of them e out from those tunnels, you’ll definitely squash them all flat!"
You... I haven’t forgotten that you were the one that alerted them to begin with... You’re still getting spanked later...
Just as I was going to point that out to her, the cavern started to shake and all of us readied ourselves, expecting another horde of bugs to appear from the tunnel that led out of the cavern.
No doubt they must be sending even more of them up here after that initial group had been wiped out...
The rumbling got louder and the ground shook even more before there was a loud crack sound that came from below.
I looked down to see that cracks had appeared beneath my feet and I looked back at my girls in a panic, right before the ground suddenly gave way and all of us started to fall.
Shit! Not all of us can fly!!
