“Pfft!”

Du Qing’s expression froze as he glanced down in horror.

What he saw?

The thin, pulsating tip of a knife pressed against his back.

“Uh… Uh-uh-uh…”

Can’t you just stab and withdraw? Why the theatrics?

A flood of questions raced through Du Qing’s mind.

“Never speak ill of others behind their backs,” Bai Lian whispered coldly into his ear. “The subject might just be standing right behind you.”

Du Qing’s eyes widened as he strained to turn his head.

He t Bai Lian’s impassive gaze.

“You… sly old fox…”

With his final breath, Du Qing collapsed—denied even the dignity of a peaceful death.

Bai Lian wiped the blood from his knife with clinical precision.

In this world, there was no rule against player killings.

Survival favored the ruthless.

Bai Lian wasn’t cruel by nature, but hesitation got you killed.

Suddenly—

“What are you doing here?”

A voice cut through the darkness behind him.

Bai Lian spun, knife raised, but halted mid-swing.

Jian Ran stood a few paces away, her brows furrowed in scrutiny.

“Oh! Leader! My apologies—thought you were soone else.”

He sheathed the blade.

“Knives are for enemies, not allies.”

Though Jian Ran was… eccentric, they shared a tenuous camaraderie. No need for violence here.

Jian Ran’s gaze lingered on the weapon, suspecting his strike had been intentional. Yet she let it pass.

“Why are you here after hours?” she demanded.

“Heard the higher-ups appreciate overti. Plus, I’m a naturally hard worker,” Bai Lian replied, spreading his hands innocently.

Jian Ran’s lips twitched.

Hard worker?

This man redefined laziness.

“Truth is, I’m investigating sothing,” he continued, noting her skepticism. “Sa as you, I’d wager.”

“And what,” she arched a brow, “do you presu my goal to be?”

“Those who know, know. Why waste breath explaining to those who don’t?”

【Translation: I’ve got no clue, but bluffing’s my specialty.】

Even Jian Ran’s sharp mind struggled to parse this verbal sleight-of-hand.

【Chat Explodes】

【He’s speaking in riddles!】

【Bai Shen’s mastered the art of saying nothing eloquently!】

【Rich won accelerate wealth growth—GENIUS!】

“You’ve been talking to her, haven’t you?” Jian Ran’s eyes narrowed, referencing Xiao Qing.

As a company veteran, she knew the board director’s daughter was trouble.

“I warned you about fraternizing with executives.”

Bai Lian shrugged. “Won slow wealth-building. But rich won?” He grinned. “They’re shortcuts.”

Jian Ran: “…”

【Chat】

【Flawless logic!】

【Teach your ways, sensei!】

Suppressing the urge to facepalm, Jian Ran changed tactics. “Why are you really here?”

Bai Lian knelt beside Du Qing’s corpse, rifling through pockets. “Loot check. Waste not, want not.”

Jian Ran watched, bemused. “What could this pawn possibly have?”

“You privileged types never understand.” Bai Lian sighed dramatically. “Growing up poor, I couldn’t afford showers—had to watch neighbors bathe through windows.” RÃℕɵ฿Ɛ𐌔

“Now I’m grown, still broke. Gotta borrow wives since I can’t afford my own.”

Jian Ran’s eyebrow twitched. Sothing’s wrong with this analogy.

“Fine,” she conceded. “State your business.”

Bai Lian t her gaze. “You first.”

After a tense pause, Jian Ran relented.

“You’re aware of Yu Haoming’s coup.” Her voice tightened. “He’s coercing board mbers into stock transfers.”

Bai Lian nodded.

“My goal isn’t to stop him.” Her eyes glinted. “It’s to take his place—and claim those shares for myself.”

Bai Lian: (´・ω・`)?
