“Did you find sothing?” Lin Ya glanced at Bai Lian’s contemplative expression and couldn’t help asking.
Bai Lian slightly raised the corners of his lips, peered deeply into the dark corridor behind them, then turned back and replied:
“We need to get to the lab. Once we’re there, most questions will be answered.”
You still didn’t say what exactly you found… Lin Ya frowned but didn’t press further, following Bai Lian toward the lab.

Lab 16 wasn’t far from Lin Ya’s dorm. They soon reached its doors.
Lab staff had just finished work and, under guard escort, were heading to their dorms.
“Dr. Bai, Dr. Lin, where are you two headed?” The girl Bai Lian had noticed first asked, puzzled.
Before Lin Ya could answer, Bai Lian cut in:
“We have so business to handle. You head back!”
Activating 【Pig Brain Overload】, the others found nothing odd in his words. They nodded and followed the guards.
Watching the researchers accept Bai Lian’s explanation without question, Lin Ya’s eyes flashed with surprise. Though she knew of his ability to influence thoughts, it still felt unreal.
Bai Lian wasted no ti. He opened the lab door and entered.
Back inside, he went straight to Specin 16’s container.
“How strong is Specin 16?” Bai Lian asked, pressing the container’s drain button while turning to Lin Ya.
Though unsure why he asked, she answered:
“Extrely strong. When it arrived, it caused huge trouble. Only ten guards working together subdued it.”
“Compared to those shadows?” Bai Lian pressed. Fluid drained from the container as its transparent shell split open. Thick tentacles slithered out.
Freed from liquid pressure, Specin 16’s massive heart began pulsingslowly at first, then faster with each beat.
Lin Ya thought briefly:
“Strength-wise, they’re comparable. But Specin 16 regenerates infinitely. Unless utterly destroyed, even a single cell can revive it.”
She pointed at surrounding jars:
“These are all tissues we excised from Specin 16. Every one regenerated.”
“During past research, we cut away so much tissue for data that we ran out of jars.”
“Why do you ask?”
Bai Lian pulled on lab gloves, lifted Specin 16 from its tank, and made a deep incision in its heart with a scalpel.
He inserted the analyzer into the cut.
Seconds later, the wound began healing. As Lin Ya said, its regenerative power was terrifying.
“This’ll do. When will it start moving?” Bai Lian inspected his work, satisfied, then turned to Lin Ya.
Guessing his intent, she replied: “Without inhibitor, it regains mobility in one minute. If injected, its abilities double!”
“Double?” Bai Lian paused, then decided: “Get the drug. Inject it.”
Lin Ya hesitated: “Are you sure? If we lose control, it could beco as dangerous as Specin 26a huge setback!”
“Don’t worry,” Bai Lian waved dismissively. “I’ll handle it. Just do it.”
“Fine.”
Reluctantly, Lin Ya took the drug and injected it into the pulsating heart.
She depressed the syringe slowly, emptying its contents.
“Done. What now?” She withdrew the needle. “If we stay, it’ll attack us.”
“Now we return to the dorm and settle another matter!” Bai Lian’s gaze deepened.
Lin Ya frowned: “What other matter?”
“Follow !”
