Vivian Quinn was so overco with exhaustion that she couldn’t open her eyes, no matter how she tried to wake herself.

She felt soone wrap her in a bath towel, carry her out of the bathroom, and place her on a soft bed.

Vivian clutched the comfortable comforter and quickly drifted into a deep sleep...

She slept soundly through the night.

The next morning, Vivian stirred awake. The first thing she saw was the handso face of the man beside her.

She tried to recall what happened, and her face instantly flushed red to the tips of her ears. She pinched Jett Sterling’s nose. "Jett Sterling, wake up! Who gave you permission to carry !"

The man woke up quickly, looking at her with amusent. "My dear Mrs. Sterling, you fell asleep in the bathtub. You could have drowned."

Vivian Quinn: "..."

"I’m not that stupid! When you carried out, didn’t you see everything?!"

"It’s not like I haven’t seen it all before. What’s there to be afraid of?"

Vivian Quinn: "..."

"Still, you can’t just do that."

"Fine. Next ti, I’ll carry you with my eyes closed."

"..."

"I can’t be bothered to argue with you. I’m getting up."

During breakfast, Vivian took a call, and her expression gradually turned cold. "I understand. Thank you."

"What’s wrong?" Jett Sterling took a sip of coffee. "Is sothing the matter?"

"It’s nothing major. The police called. They want to go sign sothing."

"The settlent agreent with Rachel Quinn?"

"Mhm," Vivian admitted. "The Grant Family wants to protect Rachel. If I press charges, she’ll retaliate by pressing charges against Mason Landon and you for hurting her. I don’t want that to happen."

"Vivian, no one would dare to co after ."

"I know, but I don’t want to drag Mason Landon into this."

The man’s brow furrowed slightly. "Are you afraid of dragging him down?"

"Of course. It’s not right to burden soone I’m not related to." Vivian could see his jealousy and had to suppress a smile. "You’re different. You’re my husband, so you’re stuck with my burdens whether you like it or not."

The gloom on Jett Sterling’s face vanished instantly. "Then let handle this."

"No, that’s not necessary." Vivian shook her head. "The police just told on the phone that Rachel is pregnant with Austin Grant’s child, so the Grant Family is determined to protect her. The Grants are a powerful family. You could lose out if you go head-to-head with them. For now, we have to let this go. Besides, and this is the most important part, I have another plan."

"What plan?"

"Joy’s illness requires Rachel’s bone marrow, but she’s always refused to donate. Now that she’s pregnant, statistically speaking, there’s a chance the umbilical cord blood from her future child could be used for Joy."

"I understand."

"Mhm. So just listen to on this. A strategic retreat isn’t a bad thing. Besides, I have no intention of harming her child. Old scores and new grudges... we can settle everything after she gives birth."

"Okay."

When Vivian arrived at the hospital, Rachel was lying in her bed, recuperating. She looked awful.

The mont she saw Vivian, the hatred in Rachel’s eyes was irrepressible. "Vivian Quinn, you’re lucky to be alive!"

"You’re not dead yet, so how could I dare to die first?" Vivian smiled calmly. "Rachel Quinn, you already knew you were pregnant, and you knew the Grant Family values this child and would definitely protect you. That’s why you dared to make a move against , right?"

"You’re very smart."

"You flatter ." Vivian glanced at her pale face. "But the Grant Family only values the child, right? Otherwise, why wouldn’t they even give you painkillers?"

Rachel’s expression changed. "Vivian Quinn, don’t you be so smug! I’m the one who refused the painkillers. I want to give Austin the healthiest baby possible!"

Vivian’s lips curled. "Getting so worked up only confirms my suspicions."

The hatred on Rachel’s face intensified, but in an instant, it slowly dissipated. "Vivian Quinn, I’m going to marry Austin soon and beco the Young Madam of the Grant Family. And you? You’re just a despised, cast-off wife. What right do you have to laugh at ?"

"I don’t have the ti. Frankly, even the thought of laughing at you is disgusting. Rachel Quinn, since you’re pregnant, you should try to behave yourself. Stop asking for trouble."

Vivian signed the settlent agreent. She had originally wanted to go upstairs to see Mason Landon, but after a mont’s thought, she decided against it.

Things between them were awkward now. It was best if they didn’t see each other too often.

Vivian went to a doctor’s office to inquire, "How is Mason Landon’s condition?"

Rowan Croft raised an eyebrow. "He’ll live."

"Of course I know he’ll live. I want to know when he’ll recover enough to be discharged."

"Why don’t you go to his room and see for yourself?"

Vivian Quinn: "..."

"Please take good care of him, Doctor. I’m going to go pay his dical bills first."

Just as Vivian was about to leave, a cold voice ca from behind her. "He got hurt this badly for you, and you don’t feel the slightest bit of heartache? Or are you just used to trampling on other people’s feelings?"

Vivian froze for a mont, then turned to look at him.

The doctor was young, with a handso face that was hard to ignore. His charming, almond-shaped eyes were particularly captivating.

’Judging by his deanor, he’s no ordinary doctor.’

Vivian said, "It seems you know Mason Landon. In that case, you should know I’m doing this for his own good. Feelings that shouldn’t exist ought to be nipped in the bud. If I were to go see him now and get entangled with him, that would be the truly cruel thing to do."

"Also, my husband is very possessive, so I hope this matter isn’t publicized. It would only cause unnecessary conflict."

Vivian paid the bill and returned to Sycamore Bay. Just as she walked in, she heard Easton Rivers reporting, "Master Sterling, the matter you assigned has been taken care of. Also, we’ve traced the car that hit Mrs. Sterling. It was driven by a woman nad Diana Davenport. After the incident, she fled the country overnight."

"Diana Davenport?" Vivian walked into the room. "You’re saying the person who tried to run over was Diana Davenport?"

"Yes, Mrs. Sterling."

Vivian was in disbelief. "I knew she held a grudge against , but I never thought she hated this much."

Jett Sterling ordered, "Tell the Davenport Family to bring her back, or they’ll face the consequences."

"Yes, Master Sterling."

Jett pinched Vivian’s cheek. "I listened to you about Rachel Quinn. Now it’s your turn to listen to about this, right?"

Vivian readily agreed. "Mhm, I’ll listen to you."

...

That evening, Vivian took a shower. When she ca out, Jett was just walking in.

Vivian was surprised. "Why aren’t you in your wheelchair? Can the servants and bodyguards be trusted?"

"I’ve given orders. No one is allowed upstairs at night except for Nanny Jenner."

"Oh." Vivian was finally relieved. "You haven’t fully recovered yet. You should get to bed early."

Jett looked at her. "Mrs. Sterling, you’re not planning on sleeping on the sofa again, are you?"

Vivian bit her lip. "I... I’m not ntally prepared yet..."

Jett took hold of her shoulders, but Vivian flinched violently.

Jett imdiately let her go, explaining, "Vivian, I wasn’t going to do anything. I just don’t want us to sleep separately."

"But..." Vivian’s shoulders wouldn’t stop trembling. "But I’m still so nervous..."
