The man instinctively lowered his gaze, his eyes freezing on the spot.
"Ah!" Mortified, Vivian Quinn wished she could gouge his eyes out. She scrambled to pick up the bath towel and frantically wrapped it around herself. "What are you looking at!"
The man shrugged innocently. "Mrs. Sterling, you’re the one who wanted to show ."
"Of course I didn’t! It fell off by accident!"
"So what if I looked? It’s not like I haven’t seen it before." A wicked smile played on his thin lips. "Not only have I seen it, I’ve also..."
Before he could finish, Vivian Quinn clamped a hand over his mouth. "Shut up! Don’t you dare say it!"
Amusent twinkled in the man’s eyes. He kissed the palm of her hand. "Getting shy?"
"I’m ignoring you." Vivian Quinn wrapped her arms around his waist, hugging him. "I heard you on the phone just now. Is sothing wrong?"
"Yeah," the man answered honestly. "The Wentworth family has spread the news about Elle. A lot of people in our social circle now know that Shirley Wentworth and I have a son."
Vivian Quinn frowned. "The Wentworth family did that on purpose, didn’t they?"
Jett Sterling scoffed. "Of course they did. They’re so desperate to lock down, they’re willing to sacrifice Shirley Wentworth’s reputation."
"So, you were on the phone with soone from the Wentworth family just now?"
"Shirley Wentworth’s brother, the heir to the Wentworth family, Vincent Wentworth."
"That na sounds familiar. I feel like I’ve heard it sowhere..." Vivian Quinn racked her brain for a mont before it hit her. "Isn’t Vincent Wentworth in politics? He visited Aethelgard University for an inspection once!"
"He is. His position isn’t insignificant. The Wentworth family pushed him into the political arena specifically to stabilize their own standing."
"I see." Vivian Quinn couldn’t help but worry. "With soone like him in the Wentworth family, will he be a threat to you?"
"No," Jett Sterling said with a faint smile. "If the Wentworth family could put him in power, I can just as easily take him out."
Vivian Quinn nodded. "That’s good. I was worried the Wentworth family would put pressure on you. If you couldn’t handle it, you’d be in a very passive position."
"That won’t happen. You don’t have to worry."
"Okay."
Jett Sterling kissed her forehead. "I’m going to take a shower."
"Okay."
After the lights were off, Vivian Quinn tossed and turned, unable to sleep.
"What’s wrong?" The man beside her pulled her into a hug. "I promised to let you off the hook tonight, but now you can’t sleep? Are you trying to hint at sothing?"
Vivian Quinn quickly pushed his hand away. "Stop ssing around."
"I’m not ssing around."
"I’m worried," Vivian Quinn said, holding his arm. "My master’s whereabouts are still unknown, your illness hasn’t been cured, and now Elle is here. If news about the hereditary disease you and your son share gets out, wouldn’t all those people waiting to pounce on you be overjoyed?"
"The Wentworth family isn’t that stupid. They know what the consequences would be if that got out. They won’t leak it, you can rest assured."
"Are you sure?"
Jett Sterling stroked her face. "Vivian, the Wentworth family’s objective is clear: they want Shirley Wentworth to marry in an alliance. Since that’s their goal, they’ll naturally want my position to be stable."
Vivian Quinn nodded. "I suppose that makes sense."
"I’ve already stepped up the search for your master, but there’s been no news. We can’t rush this."
"I know. We don’t even know if he’s dead or alive. Finding him is not going to be easy."
"Stop thinking about it. Let’s get so sleep."
"Okay."
...
Jett Sterling slept soundly until morning. When he woke up, he found Vivian Quinn was no longer in bed.
"Vivian? Vivian?"
He called her na twice, but there was no answer. He got out of bed, washed up, changed his clothes, and headed downstairs.
"Good morning, sir." Nanny Jenner ca forward to greet him. "Breakfast is almost ready."
"And my wife?"
"She was up just after five. She’s in the room in the basent."
Jett Sterling took the elevator down to the basent. Through the glass door, he saw Vivian Quinn, completely focused on a pile of herbs she was researching.
He knocked before entering. "Why are you up so early?"
"Oh, you’re up?" Vivian Quinn said happily. "I suddenly had an idea, so I got up imdiately to start researching."
"Co on, let’s get so breakfast."
"Okay, but I don’t think I’ll go to my classes today. I have to research these few herbs."
"Alright. I’ll stay ho with you."
Vivian Quinn raised an eyebrow. "Professor Quinn, how can you just skip work?"
"Keeping my wife company is more important, of course."
Vivian Quinn laughed and kissed his cheek. "Then let’s go have breakfast first."
After breakfast, Ian Sterling went off to school by himself, while Vivian Quinn imdiately imrsed herself in her research with the herbs.
"Vivian!" Elle ca in carrying a plate of small cookies. "I brought you sothing yummy to eat!"
"Thank you, Elle." Vivian Quinn washed her hands and ate a cookie with him. "They sll so good."
"Nanny Jenner and I made them together!"
"No wonder they sll so fragrant."
"Vivian, Nanny Jenner said you’re researching dicine for , so my headaches will go away."
"Sothing like that, yes. I can’t promise it will work, but I’m going to do my best."
"You’re the best, Vivian!" Elle puckered his lips and planted a firm kiss on her cheek. "Go for it!"
Vivian Quinn’s heart swelled with warmth. "Thank you, Elle. I will definitely try my hardest."
Elle hesitated for a mont before adding, "Vivian, Nanny Jenner also said you’re my mommy."
Vivian Quinn froze. "Why would she say that?"
"Because you’re Daddy’s wife, that ans you’re supposed to be my mommy."
Vivian Quinn was speechless.
A bittersweet feeling washed over her, and her heart began to race.
’Mommy...’
’Elle just called her Mommy!’
Vivian Quinn sniffled, then explained rationally, "Elle, what Nanny Jenner said isn’t entirely correct. You have your own mommy, and she’s the one who loves you most. You can like , and we can be great friends, but she is your one and only mommy. Do you understand?"
Elle blinked. "But I really, really like you, Vivian. If you could be my mommy, then I’d have two mommies, and I would be extra happy."
"I like you very, very much too, Elle, but I can’t take your mommy’s place. You have to love her with all your heart, okay?"
"I love my mommy very much," Elle said, swinging his short legs. He then added, "But I love you too, Vivian."
Vivian Quinn hugged him. "You’re such a good boy."
...
「anwhile, in a high-end villa district in Aethelgard.」
Shirley Wentworth t with two doctors in her personal study.
"The dical records are here. You two are specialists in hereditary diseases, so you must have a way to treat my son’s illness, right?"
The two doctors read the case file, then exchanged glances before one of them spoke. "Miss Wentworth, we’re very sorry, but the physician who wrote this file is our ntor. He is the leading authority in this field. The fact that you’re coming to us with his file ans he couldn’t find a solution. If a condition has even him stumped, there’s no way we could possibly overco it."
The color drained from Shirley Wentworth’s face. "What do I do? What on earth am I supposed to do?"
"Please rest assured, Miss Wentworth. Your son is still very young, so there’s plenty of ti to study the illness. I’m confident a breakthrough will be made."
"That’s right."
Shirley Wentworth buried her face in her hands. "My child is still young, but Jett isn’t! Year after year passes, and he’ll be thirty before we know it!"
One of the doctors deliberated for a mont before speaking. "Miss Wentworth, I might... have one idea..."
