Jett Sterling kissed her brow. "You’re beautiful."
Vivian Quinn blushed a little. "I should get up. I need to go to the hospital and be with Joy."
"Alright, I’ll go with you."
"You’ve been at the hospital for so many days. You should go take care of your own business. I can handle things at the hospital myself."
"I want to be with you."
Vivian Quinn couldn’t win the argunt, so she had to agree. "Alright, fine."
"Alright. Ti to get up."
"Okay."
The two of them had a quick bite at ho before heading to the hospital.
Joy Chase still hadn’t woken up. Vivian Quinn changed into an isolation gown and went into the room to see her.
"Joy, you’ve been sleeping for a very long ti. It’s ti to wake up. I have so good news for you—your surgery is done, and it was a huge success. If you can just find the strength to wake up, you’ll be out of the hospital in no ti. You won’t just be able to ride a carousel; you’ll be able to run, and jump, and see the world."
"So, Joy, you have to pull through this for yourself. I know you can do it."
On the hospital bed, the girl’s fingertip suddenly twitched!
Vivian Quinn’s face lit up. "Joy? Joy, you’re awake, aren’t you? Doctor! Doctor!"
Several doctors imdiately rushed in. They had Vivian Quinn wait outside while they perford a detailed examination on Joy Chase.
After about fifteen minutes, a doctor ca out and said, "Miss Quinn, Joy did wake up just now, but she’s still very weak and fell asleep again. Don’t worry, she’ll wake up again soon. The fact that she regained consciousness so quickly proves the surgery was a success. She just needs a period of quiet rest, and she’ll make a full recovery."
"That’s wonderful!" Vivian Quinn was so excited she was at a loss for words. "Thank you so much."
"You’re welco. We’ll be able to move her to a regular ward soon."
"Okay."
Vivian Quinn turned and looked at Jett Sterling excitedly. "Jett, did you hear that? Joy is going to make a full recovery!"
"I heard." Jett Sterling took her hand. "Now that your biggest worry is gone, you can be completely and utterly mine for the rest of our lives."
Vivian Quinn bead. "Yes!"
...
The next ti Joy Chase awoke, it was the following morning.
The mont she opened her eyes, she saw Vivian Quinn asleep, her head resting on the edge of the bed.
"Sis..."
Vivian Quinn’s eyes fluttered open. "Joy," she said, her voice filled with delight, "you’re awake?"
"Yeah... what happened to ?"
"Don’t you rember? You ran out of the hospital to go to the amusent park. You nearly froze to death. You had a very close brush with death."
"Sis, I think I had a dream." Joy Chase’s voice was weak. "I dreamt that you told my surgery was a success, and that I could go ride a carousel and travel the world."
"Joy, you weren’t dreaming. It’s real." Vivian Quinn grasped her hand. "You had surgery last night, Joy. It was a complete success. The doctor said that after a few months of rest, you’ll be fully recovered."
Joy Chase was incredulous. "Really?"
"Of course it’s real. I wouldn’t lie to you."
Joy Chase began to cry with happiness. "Sis, I’m going to live! I’m not going to die!"
"Mhm!"
At that mont, in a hospital room on a lower floor, two police officers knocked and entered. "Excuse , are you Mason Landon?"
The man in the bed slowly opened his eyes. "I am."
"A recent car accident involves you. We need you to assist us with our investigation."
Mason Landon’s brow furrowed. He picked up his phone. "I need to call my lawyer."
"That’s fine."
...
Vivian Quinn was ladling soup, preparing to visit Joy Chase at the hospital, when she received the news.
Her eyes widened in shock. "So, Mason Landon was the one who orchestrated Joy’s father’s death?"
"Yes, ma’am."
A chill ran down Vivian Quinn’s spine. ’To think he’d do sothing so heinous for his own selfish desires... That was a person’s life!’
"The crash resulted in two deaths and five injuries. Besides Miss Chase’s father, a prison guard also died. This incident was particularly vicious, so Mason Landon won’t escape the arm of the law."
"He’s terrifying..." Vivian Quinn shuddered with lingering fear. ’I can’t believe such a sinister and ruthless person was hiding behind that gentle facade.’
"Ma’am, Mason Landon is certainly no good, but he’s out of our lives now."
"Yes, we’re finally free of such a terrifying person."
When Vivian Quinn arrived at the hospital, Joy Chase was awake.
"You’re looking well today, Joy."
Joy Chase smiled brightly. "I feel like I have a lot more energy today too, Sis."
"Then you should eat up. I made this chicken soup myself. I guarantee you’ll love it."
"Thanks, Sis."
As she drank her soup, Joy Chase asked, "Sis, who donated their bone marrow to ? I have to thank them properly."
"I’ve already thanked them," Vivian Quinn said, deliberately making light of it. "Your only job right now is to rest and get better. Don’t worry about anything else."
"Okay." Then Joy Chase asked, "Why hasn’t Brother Mason co to see ? I haven’t seen him in days."
Vivian Quinn’s brow twitched. "Joy, do you... like Mason a lot?"
Joy Chase quickly explained, "Sis, don’t get the wrong idea! I like him as a big brother, nothing more."
"But Joy, he isn’t your brother," Vivian Quinn explained. "Many people in this world are just passing through our lives. It’s normal for people to drift apart. Promise you’ll stop thinking about Mason, okay? He has nothing to do with our lives anymore."
Joy Chase asked curiously, "Sis, did you and Brother Mason have a falling out?"
"Sothing like that."
"I understand..." Joy Chase looked sad. "I’ve been sick and in the hospital for so many years, I don’t know many people. Brother Mason was one of the few..."
"Joy, I’m sorry." Vivian Quinn stroked her face. "Once you’re better, you’ll go to school. You’ll make lots and lots of new friends. You have to rember, your life is just beginning."
"Okay."
...
Vivian Quinn kept a close watch on Mason Landon’s case. He had been taken to the police station for a detailed investigation, and she had assud, just as Easton Rivers said, that he would surely face the consequences of the law. But then, in an unexpected twist, the situation was reversed.
The story was that the car accident had been orchestrated by Mason Landon’s assistant. The assistant, who had a prison record, held a grudge against the prison guard who was killed in the crash.
Vivian Quinn was incredulous. "How could it be such a coincidence?"
Jett Sterling gave a faint smile. "Vivian, I told you. Mason Landon has his resources and connections."
"So he used his resources and connections to escape responsibility?"
"Most likely."
"But how is that right?"
"Vivian, the world isn’t black and white. There are a lot of gray areas."
"I know." Vivian Quinn nodded. "I understand that in theory, but it’s still frustrating to experience it firsthand."
"Don’t worry. Evading justice this ti has already cost him a great deal of effort. Even if he’s not going to jail, I can still deal with him."
Vivian Quinn asked curiously, "What are you going to do?"
