When Vivian didn’t speak for a long mont, Ian Sterling asked, "What’s wrong? Did I say sothing I shouldn’t have?"
Vivian Quinn smiled faintly. "You’re not wrong. Around Jett Sterling, I’m really not myself."
"Uh, I didn’t an to put you down. Don’t feel bad. It’s okay to be a little love-struck."
"I’ll just take that as you trying to comfort ."
"Whatever you say."
Vivian Quinn gathered her thoughts and said, "Don’t waste any more ti. Go investigate your mother’s case. If you run into anything, you can tell anyti. Like I said, an outsider’s perspective is often clearer. I might be able to offer so advice."
"Okay, I’ll get on that then."
"Mm."
Vivian Quinn hung up the phone, threw back the covers, and walked to the floor-to-ceiling window, losing herself in the night view outside.
Suddenly, she felt a weight on her shoulders as a thin blanket was draped over her.
Vivian Quinn turned her head and saw Mason Landon’s handso face.
"Thank you." She pulled the blanket tighter around herself. "I’m feeling much better. You don’t have to stay here at the hospital all the ti. It’ll get in the way of your own business."
"Vivian, I know what I’m doing. You don’t have to worry." Mason Landon stood beside her, shoulder to shoulder. "The Aethelgard skyline is truly beautiful. All the bright lights and wild nights... But my greatest hope is that among all those thousands of lights, there’s one that’s mine."
"When I co ho exhausted from fighting my way through the world, there’ll be a light waiting for . My wife will be there, waiting with a smile. I think in that mont, all my fatigue would just lt away. That would be my happiest mont."
"You’ll have that," Vivian Quinn said with a small smile. "Mason, you’re so outstanding, so good. You’ll definitely achieve what you’re hoping for."
"Yes, I definitely will. That’s why I’ve been working so hard." Mason Landon turned to look at her delicate profile. "Vivian, what kind of life do you hope for?"
"I don’t know." Vivian Quinn gave a slight, joyless tug at her lips. "Maybe I used to be like you. I had a very specific picture in my mind. But not anymore. And I don’t want to hope for it again."
"Is it all because of Jett Sterling?" Mason Landon asked, confused. "Vivian, you’re a free spirit. I don’t believe you’d lose faith in love and life over soone like him. You just need ti."
"Is that so?" Vivian Quinn’s mind felt empty. "But right now, I don’t even know myself anymore. I hate who I am right now. I hate my attitude, how I’m handling things. I just... I hate it so much."
"Vivian, you’re in an extrely negative state right now, but this isn’t the real you. You have to believe in the power of ti. It will help you get through this soon."
Vivian Quinn shook her head gently. "Mason, I’m a little tired. You should go ho for now."
"Vivian, I know you’re avoiding the issue. I won’t push you. I just want you to know that I’m always here." Afraid of provoking a strong reaction, Mason Landon didn’t dare say more. He just smiled and said, "Get so rest. I’ll co see you again tomorrow."
"Thank you."
...
Early the next morning, Shane Shaw arrived on ti to bring Vivian Quinn breakfast.
Vivian Quinn ate and asked, "I don’t care if you’re not eating, but what are you doing filming with your phone?"
"Boss, life is unpredictable. I used to think we had all the ti in the world together, but now I realize you have to cherish everything. So I’m going to cherish every mont with you, and I’m going to film it so I can look back at it whenever I want."
Vivian Quinn couldn’t help but look up at him. "You’ve beco quite the orator all of a sudden."
"I’m serious. The other day, when you were poisoned and your life was on the line, I was thinking back on all our mories. I realized just how much I couldn’t accept it. Boss, I’ve always imagined we’d grow old together, still eating and having fun. Even if we had our own families, our bond would never change. But that day... I was so scared. Scared you would die in the ergency room, scared you’d end up in a coma, scared you would just... vanish from this world at any mont..."
Recalling that day, Shane Shaw’s heart still couldn’t stop trembling. His voice choked with emotion, he said, "Boss, I can’t bear to lose you."
Vivian Quinn put down her porridge spoon and gave him a brilliant smile. "Shane, I’m not that easy to kill. We can still grow old eating and having fun together."
"Boss, you have to keep your word!"
"Of course. When have I ever lied to you?"
Shane Shaw wiped the tears from the corners of his eyes. "It’s a deal!"
"It’s a deal."
"Boss, you made cry again. Take your ti eating. I’m going to step out and pull myself together."
"Okay."
As soon as Shane Shaw left the hospital room, he sent the video he’d just taken to Jett Sterling, followed by a voice ssage. "Look, the Boss’s color is much better. I just asked the doctor, and he said she’s recovering well. She should be able to leave the hospital in another two days."
At the dining table, Jett Sterling watched the girl in the video, a gentle smile gracing his lips.
"Master Sterling," Easton Rivers ca in to report, "Master Ian is making good progress, even better than I expected. However, I’ve discovered he has a strategist helping him."
Jett Sterling’s smile reached his eyes. "It’s Vivian."
"Yes. He’s been in constant contact with Madam over the phone."
"Vivian has always been clever. And in this matter, she trusts Ian Sterling completely, so of course she’d help him through it."
Easton Rivers nodded. "Madam sees things with great clarity."
Jett Sterling lowered his gaze back to the video. "I’m the one who’s wronged her..."
"Master Sterling, the dical team is getting daily blood samples from Madam for observation and research. I’m sure there will be a positive outco."
"Mason Landon won’t give that chance. If nothing unexpected happens, he’ll soon force to divorce Vivian."
Just as Jett Sterling predicted, Mason Landon called him soon after. "Are you stalling for ti?"
"Vivian hasn’t recovered yet."
Mason Landon sneered. "Jett Sterling, you’re supposed to be building your image as a scumbag. The bigger the scumbag, the better. The worse you act, the more Vivian will hate you."
"Have you ever considered that the more she hates , the deeper her love for runs? Have you ever seen her hate Austin Grant like this?" Jett Sterling said calmly. "Mason, even if you manage to take Vivian away, you’re still the loser. Because the one she loves is ."
That sentence seed to hit a nerve. Mason Landon exploded in a rage, "Jett Sterling, say one more word and see what happens! Believe it or not, I’ll take Vivian down with !"
"An obsessive person like you is capable of anything. But at the sa ti, people like you are the least willing to die, because you still haven’t gotten what you want."
Mason Landon gradually cald down. "I know you’ve studied psychology and are good at reading people. But rember this, Jett Sterling, no matter how you analyze or provoke , I’m the one who holds all the cards!"
"Vivian is a person, not an object you can claim just by snatching her away. Even if you take her, her heart will never be yours."
"That’s enough, Jett Sterling!"
