Early this morning, Xia Xiao and Gao Jiaxing, along with their child and Zheng Xianghong, went to the large dining hall for breakfast before the troops escorted them to leave the island.
Since Xia Xiao and Gao Jiaxing were departing, Dong ihua had been trying to convince He Xuexiang to persuade Li Shengi to go back.
Life as a couple is simpler. The mont the mother-in-law arrives, even if she can help with the kids, it’s certainly not convenient. Moreover, Dong ihua and Li Shengi did not get along, so Dong ihua didn’t want Li Shengi to stay and hoped she would leave with Xia Xiao, Gao Jiaxing, and Zheng Xianghong.
He Xuexiang finally managed to convince Li Shengi, considering the family not only included He Hongjun but also He Xuewu.
"Mom, Xuewu is already twenty and doesn’t have a partner. You should take it to heart. If you don’t go back, Dad will hold it against you even more, and then Xuewu will resent you too."
Once He Xuexiang said this, Li Shengi finally thought of her younger son and imdiately said, "Isn’t Dr. Lin Xiang the cousin of Yu Zhen? I’ve been thinking about matching Xuewu with her, but she is unwilling."
Dong ihua truly didn’t know that Li Shengi had the idea of pairing He Xuewu with Lin Xiang. Since Lin Xiang hadn’t ntioned it, nobody knew except for Xia Xiao and Zheng Xianghong.
Therefore, Dong ihua was speechless for a mont, and He Xuexiang was dumbstruck. If the age difference were just two or three years, it would have been fine, but a ten-year gap was simply too much; his mother was really throwing her younger son under the bus.
"Mom, Xuewu isn’t a soldier, and Dr. Lin wouldn’t look at him. Besides, she has high standards. Just find a good match for Xuewu when you get back, and forget about Dr. Lin."
Upon hearing He Xuexiang’s words, Li Shengi didn’t say anything more. Her younger son was not bad-looking, and he studied well, being a high school student, so she wasn’t worried about him not finding a good match. With this in mind, Li Shengi no longer dwelled on the issue with Lin Xiang.
So, on this trip, Li Shengi left with Zheng Xianghong, Gao Jiaxing, and Xia Xiao. Now, the conflict between Li Shengi and Zheng Xianghong wasn’t as tense as it used to be back in the production team, so Zheng Xianghong had no objections to Li Shengi accompanying them.
The troops had all co to see Gao Jiaxing and the others off at the seashore. Lin Xiang didn’t approach but rather stood silently at a distance, watching as Gao Jiaxing and his family departed.
"Ai Guo, what are you looking at?" Wang Yuncai asked.
"Nothing," Li Aiguo replied, sowhat guiltily averting his gaze.
Xu Chunhua ntioned it casually and didn’t feel like teasing Wang Yuncai, so she didn’t say much more.
Otherwise, if the two had really started talking, it would surely lead to trouble.
All of a sudden, Xia Xiao’s eyes widened as she looked in the direction of Li Aiguo and Lin Xiang. She had just caught sight of Lin Xiang glaring at Li Aiguo, and imdiately felt as if she had been struck by lightning.
If this were modern tis, Xia Xiao would really like to express her inner thoughts, which were sothing along the lines of "What the heck?!"
This was utterly inconceivable, absolutely baffling.
With Lin Xiang’s standards, it was impossible for her to have taken a fancy to Li Aiguo. Generally speaking, tall n, if their facial features are well-proportioned, tend to look handso.
But Li Aiguo, his dark skin aside, had particularly small eyes and a nose that was too big with nostrils that slightly flared upward, large ears, a wide mouth, yet a small face, resulting in a lack of harmony in his features.
Thus, Li Aiguo was deed unattractive, yet taking each feature on its own, he wasn’t bad-looking; it was just the combination that seed odd.
Xia Xiao couldn’t help but think about the previous night, everyone had drinks, and perhaps Li Aiguo had so thoughts about Lin Xiang.
But that couldn’t be right, Lin Xiang was a military doctor. If she just said a word, Li Aiguo would be done for.
After bidding farewell to everyone, Xia Xiao and her family, along with Li Shengi, boarded the ship. Seizing a mont, Xia Xiao whispered to Gao Jiaxing, "Did Dr. Lin have drinks again last night?"
"I’m not sure, but a woman did co to get so liquor; it might have been her. What’s up?" Gao Jiaxing asked.
Xia Xiao shook her head, "Nothing." By then, Xia Xiao had guessed that Lin Xiang was also drunk, so perhaps Li Aiguo was drunk too; the two barracks were neighbors, after all. Maybe Lin Xiang mistook Li Aiguo for Gao Jiaxing; their statures were indeed similar.
Thinking that Lin Xiang had gotten herself into trouble and that Wang Yuncai’s man might have slept with Lin Xiang, Xia Xiao felt a refreshing sense of schadenfreude. She had no sympathy for Lin Xiang or Wang Yuncai.
All the way ho, Li Shengi kept trying to initiate conversation with Zheng Xianghong, who responded a couple of tis.
After the long journey back to the production team, everyone wasn’t surprised to see Zheng Xianghong, Gao Jiaxing’s family, and Li Shengi return together, but they were quite astonished to see Li Shengi heading ho and greeting Zheng Xianghong.
Had the sun risen from the west? How could it be that after following her son for a few months, Li Shengi had beco so amicable with Zheng Xianghong?
Everyone knew of their relationship, so the surprise was genuine.
Upon Xia Xiao’s return, Yang Xuehua, Xia Jing, Wang Aihua, and the others all ca over at once. Gao Guoqiang saw his grandchildren and couldn’t stop grinning.
