It took a while to calm the villagers, but I was able to calm them down in the end.

They finally accepted us going into the forest after the spirit beasts, but before we could go...

All of the villagers offered different family heirlooms to us.

They all said that these were items that had been passed down for generations by their ancestors. Their ancestors told them that these items would protect them in their tis of danger, but they never had to use them before.

Or they never got a chance to use them since even if the spirit beasts attacked, it wasn’t as if they had ti to run back to grab these items.

So now they wanted to give them to us to protect ourselves while we faced the spirit beasts.

The problem was that...most of these items were just nothing more than knick knacks.

With my Appraisal skill, I was able to see through most of these items with ease.

I could tell that these things didn’t have any abilities at all, they didn’t even have any spiritual energy in them. They were just common items that had been passed down through generations that had lost their value even though they were so old.

After all, they were common items in the first place, so it wasn’t as if there was anything that was preserving them. Since they were common items that didn’t have anything preserving them, it ant that they had deteriorated over ti and had beco close to worthless.

Yet that didn’t an that they didn’t have any sentintal value.

To these villagers, these items were priceless since they ca from their ancestors.

This kind of item was not sothing that could be replaced that easily nor could it be looked down on.

So I accepted all of these items.

Though there were a few items that did have so kind of effect.

Such as a shield that I obtained from the village chief.

There was a power that this shield contained, it was just that...the power wasn’t that great.

It wouldn’t actually be helpful if it ca down to a fight.

Still, the emotions that this contained was more than enough for .

We had to fill up an entire Kunlun Bag with these items, that was just how much they were willing to give us these items.

When we finally set off into the woods, it was already past noon.

That was how long they kept us, almost as if they were trying to stall us from going into the woods.

Once we were in the forest, I couldn’t help letting out a sigh of relief.

It was a bit scary how enthusiastic these villagers had beco after just giving them a bit of aid. It was like they were completely different from how they were yesterday, like they had beco completely different people.

That kind of enthusiasm was almost a bit too much for .

It was almost on the level of fanaticism.

So being able to get out of there was good for .

The one good thing about this was that the mission progress had increased again.

The area with the village was completely covered in red, but not only that...it was a much darker red colour than any that I’ve seen before. It was almost as if there was sothing different about this.

And that thing was that it gave the sa amount of points as the town and the villages from before.

Was it that...if they knew more about and worshiped more, there would be more progress?

I didn’t know exactly how it worked, but there was a bad feeling that filled when I thought about this.

So instead of dwelling on this, I focused on what was happening in front of .

The lackeys were quite skilled at tracking, so I was just following them as we headed into the forest. After the first bit where the trees were completely flattened, there were only small marks that were left behind by the spirit beasts.

It was as if they had only started going on a rampage when they had approached the villages.

Was it because of their hatred for humans that they did all of that?

But if that was the case, there was no reason for them to approach the human villages in the first place.

So it seed like there was sothing off about all of this.

Following the tracks that the spirit beasts left behind, we eventually reached a cave that was on the side of a hill.

This cave wasn’t that deep, so we were able to see the spirit beasts that were inside of this cave. But that was also in part because they ca out to play.

It was a mother bear and her cubs that were playing in the sun.

It was a cute and endearing scene that would lt the hearts of those that saw it, but...

It was a fact that the tracks were leading to this place.

It was clear that these were the spirit beasts that had attacked the villages.

I just couldn’t wrap my head around why they would do sothing like that...

It didn’t make any sense.

The others had confused looks on their faces before slowly looking at , as if they were asking if I had any ideas what was happening.

I just shook my head in response to this.

After observing the bears for a bit, I decided that there was no point staying here.

There was nothing to gain from observing the bears any longer, it was better to search the surrounding area to see if there was anything that we missed.

If there was sothing, then that would explain why the tracks led to this place.

Or at least that was what we had been planning on doing until...

"Roar!"

There was a roar that ca from in front of us.

The mother bear and bear cubs that had just been playing there suddenly started roaring.
