At six o’clock, Ye Fan did not find Shuang’Er at the entrance of the Mountain Range Hotel.
He patiently waited for a long ti, until it was past ten in the evening when he received a piece of news from the city.
The headquarters of the Star Night Wolf Pack Adventurer Squad, otherwise known as the Wolf Race Hall, was attacked.
The attacker was just one person, single-handedly breaking into the hall.
The entire attack lasted less than three minutes, and all the dozen high-ranking mbers of the Star Night Wolf Pack Adventurer Squad, including Zhou Guang, were killed.
After the identities of these individuals were reported, Ye Fan discovered they were all the ones who were involved in attacking him that day.
There were a total of thirteen people, four of them were Level 2 Mutants, and nine were Level 1 Mutants.
Because the process was so rapid, when the officers arrived, they couldn’t see any trace of the assailant. Soone saw the killer jumping into the river and escaping, but they ran too fast to be caught.
The only thing that could currently be confird was that the attacker was a woman.
This news shocked almost everyone who knew about the incident.
Thirteen mutants, in under three minutes, were all killed, and the attacker was just one woman!
Many people thought this to be a rumor because no one in the world is believed to have such power.
Most speculations assud that it was an enemy of the Star Night Wolf Pack who did this, but since the squad had committed many misdeeds, it was hard to say who exactly did it.
Moreover, there was a crucial point: after these thirteen were killed, all the cash they had on them was taken.
Based on rough estimates, the attacker took about eight thousand Light Yuan.
This added to the complexity of the case.
Those who dared confront the Star Night Wolf Pack wouldn’t be interested in such a petty amount, would they?
Was this a vengeance killing or a robbery?
The police in Dawn City took photographs for evidence and released a blurry wanted notice.
The identity of the suspect was unknown, with only a blurry image capturing the attacker as a masked woman.
With such scant evidence, it was almost impossible to catch the real culprit.
The police finished their work and closed the case, probably marking it as another unsolved mystery.
.......
At around eleven, Ye Fan saw Shuang’Er at the entrance of the Mountain Range Hotel.
This ti, Shuang’Er’s condition was markedly different from earlier in the day.
The little girl looked wilted, like a frostbitten eggplant, with her long eyelashes drooping listlessly, clearly showing signs of being heavily impacted.
"What’s the matter? Couldn’t find your teammates again?"
"Mm... Captain Chen, here’s so money to return to you first, and for the remaining amount, I’ll repay you gradually after I find a job and earn so money."
Seeing Shuang’Er hand over a collection of cumbrous and loose bills, Ye Fan felt a wave of shock in his heart.
The Star Night Wolf Pack’s incident was undoubtedly Shuang’Er’s doing.
But Ye Fan didn’t expect her abilities to have reached this extent.
The scene at the Dawn Grand Theater, when several Level 2 Mutants attempted to assassinate him, was still fresh in his mind.
He rembered the chaos and trouble those Level 2 Mutants caused, and now the strength of the Star Night Wolf Pack Squad was almost on par with those attackers.
But so many people were dealt with by Shuang’Er in less than three minutes, and she even had ti to rummage for cash.
This ant her actual ti to eliminate the enemies might have only been around a minute.
Has the power of a Level 3 Mutation reached such a degree?
Ye Fan was astounded internally, but did not show it on his face, and he asked Shuang’Er, "Where did you get this money?"
"I took out the Star Night Wolf Pack!"
Shuang’Er spoke bluntly to Ye Fan.
"Ah! Why did you do that?"
"I suspected they captured my teammates. After all, we were wanted by the Adventurer’s Guild, so I went there. They weren’t there, but they weren’t good people either, so I just finished them off and took their money. Don’t worry, I didn’t indiscriminately kill innocents; these were all the ones who attacked us that day."
Shuang’Er talked with righteous confidence, as if it was just a trivial matter.
Ye Fan felt speechless, but this also solidified his resolve.
"This is just a few thousand; you still owe a lot more."
"I owe you money, that’s true, but I can’t find my teammates now, so there’s no way to repay you. I want to start a small business in the city to earn money and then repay you."
"Oh, what do you want to do?"
"I don’t know either. I only know how to fight zombies, but now there’s no way to leave the city. How about I open a combat training class in the city?"
Ye Fan laughed, "That would only earn you a little money. I’ll be leaving Dawn City in about half a month. Can you make forty thousand Light Yuan in such a short ti?"
"Ah! What should I do then?"
Ye Fan pondered for a mont before finally revealing his purpose.
"With your skills, why don’t you do a favor? If you succeed, your debt to will be completely cleared."
"What is it?" Shuang’Er’s eyes suddenly lit up; today had been a day of failure for her.
After understanding the purchasing power of Light Yuan, she also realized just how much she owed Ye Fan.
She initially thought that taking down the Star Night Wolf Pack would earn her a lot, but unexpectedly, the gains were minimal—barely enough to even cover the interest on the debt.
Now that Ye Fan offered a new solution, her spirits were imdiately lifted.
However, Ye Fan’s next words left her shocked.
"I ca to Dawn City with the goal of taking out the leader of the Dawn Army, Ye Fan. In the coming days, I need to scout the city. How about you tag along with ?"
Upon hearing Captain Chen’s words, Shuang’Er’s eyes widened, her long eyelashes blinking multiple tis.
"Are you... also sent by so faction?"
Ye Fan couldn’t help but inwardly retort; this girl’s strength was undeniable, but she was still quite naive about worldly matters.
But that was fine—simple and worry-free.
He nodded gently: "I can’t disclose my exact identity, and Ye Fan is elusive; outsiders find it hard to discern his whereabouts. I now need to fully understand Dawn City to figure out his movents, so I can act; otherwise, getting into that central district is impossible."
Shuang’Er nodded like a pecking chick: "I know, I know, it’s indeed impossible to get in, but..."
"But what?"
"Today, I heard an aunt say that Ye Fan doesn’t seem so bad."
Ye Fan shook his head: "Those are probably just rumors. In this world, no true good person exists among leaders; they all exploit the people without caring about the common survivors’ lives. I believe Ye Fan is no exception, so I’m doing a public service by eliminating a nace."
Hearing Ye Fan say this, Shuang’Er’s gaze gradually hardened.
She stood up and high-fived Ye Fan: "Though I have doubts about your words, it doesn’t stop from investigating. I’ll follow you these days and thoroughly check it out. If Ye Fan is truly like that, then I’ll definitely help you."
"Great! Starting tomorrow, we’ll carefully observe and unveil the facade of this sinister leader."
"Great! Let’s eat first; we’ll need energy for tomorrow’s investigation." Shuang’Er said righteously.
Ye Fan took Shuang’Er to a beef noodle shop and ordered several bowls of spicy beef noodles for their dinner.
......
The next day, Zhuge Yunxue and the subordinates did not accompany Ye Fan.
Ye Fan, with Shuang’Er, drove the Humr, keeping the radio on, and started a series of investigations within Dawn City.
Their first stop was a place called the Dawn Won’s Reemploynt Center.
In the car, Ye Fan told Shuang’Er: "The woman you t yesterday should be just an exception in Dawn City. This is the end tis; won inherently have weaker physical strength and can’t fight zombies effectively. They’re seen as a burden at any base, and so people think they’re just wasting food, right?"
Shuang’Er nodded: "You’re right; that’s how it is where I co from. Unless you beco a mutant, won’s status is low, doing lots of work without enough food."
"So I think Dawn City is no different. This is a place for won’s reemploynt. Go in, ask about their situation, and if anyone is deceived, you unveil Ye Fan’s true colors."
Shuang’Er, strong as she was, seed only sixteen or seventeen, her previous life environnt probably simple, and her post-apocalyptic experience matched Ye Fan’s description, so she didn’t think much.
She opened the car door, got out, and entered the Won’s Reemploynt Center.
Ye Fan stayed in the car, listening to so argunts from inside.
Shuang’Er didn’t co out for a while, so Ye Fan waited patiently.
About an hour later, Shuang’Er erged carrying a stack of pamphlets and such.
Once in the car, Shuang’Er pouted, sowhat upset.
"What’s up?"
"The won there seem brainwashed; they didn’t believe and lectured instead, saying if I weren’t pretty, they’d scratch my face."
"And then?"
"I couldn’t argue with them. They all praised Ye Fan, citing many examples, even handing these recruitnt booklets and ads, telling to verify these things for myself."
Ye Fan smirked slightly, couldn’t help but cough twice: "Are you going to ask?"
"Yes! Why not! I refuse to believe everyone is brainwashed. Let’s go to the next place."
Ye Fan continued driving Shuang’Er around to see if the won’s workplaces were truly authentic.
After a whole day of this, Shuang’Er beca completely silent, even at dinner, she had little appetite.
Ye Fan imdiately consoled her: "Shuang’Er, did you notice? Ye Fan is particularly good to won; it’s a common flaw in many leaders. He surely doesn’t treat n as well. So tomorrow, I’ll take you to see where the n work, and we’ll find evidence of his oppression elsewhere."
Initially disheartened after a whole day, Shuang’Er was motivated by Ye Fan’s encouragent again.
"You make a point. Let’s continue tomorrow!"
Though disheartened, Shuang’Er remained full of fighting spirit.
She didn’t believe there could really be a leader who cares so much for survivors, and once she found evidence of Ye Fan’s wrongdoing, she would fully support Chen Bufan’s actions.
