The successful bombing by the Dawn Army Air Force granted Ice City two more hours.

Transportation has been operating at full capacity. In the past three and a half hours since the withdrawal started from the Liberation Army, nearly six hundred thousand people have been evacuated.

Now, the survivors still left in Ice City, including the Dawn Army, number just over four hundred thousand.

If we transport at the limit, it will take slightly more than four hours.

However, the situation here has not eased; it beca even more chaotic when those from the Liberation Army joined the crowd after abandoning their weapons.

Terrified by zombies, these people continuously share tales of zombie horror, telling others that Ice City is about to fall.

Such remarks led to widespread panic, with everyone wanting to push forward, fearing zombies might rush in and devour them in the next second.

So even plead with ard soldiers.

"Officer, please let us through; my wife is pregnant."

"Let us go first; we’ve waited two days, and our feet are frostbitten."

"Why should you go ahead? I have kids, and shouldn’t won and children go first at tis like this?"

"You people step back; if anyone is going, it should be us, the old soldiers of the Liberation Army. We fought against zombies for five days to protect you and sacrificed over tens of thousands; you sit and enjoy the benefits, and now you want to take a soldier’s privilege?"

"Bah! What kind of soldiers are you? You’re deserters! Without the Dawn Army saving us, we’d be done for!"

The survivors grew increasingly agitated, with so even planning to break through checkpoints.

"Shoot anyone who dares to break through!"

Rat-a-tat-tat~~~!

Unexpectedly, the Dawn Army guards showed no rcy; upon the officer’s command, those causing disruption or assuming privilege were shot dead on the spot!

Seeing the blood-soaked figures of more than a dozen people frightened the agitated crowd into silence.

Everyone dared not say another word and obediently returned to the queue, lining up honestly.

So people are like that; they need occasional deterrence, or else so would take advantage.

Perhaps so genuinely need consideration, like the elderly, small children, or the fainting.

But not now; at this mont, the Dawn Army doesn’t have the energy to care for special groups, and everyone must be treated equally to maximize rescue efficiency.

Anyone who dares to break Ye Fan’s rules will face bullets from the Dawn Army soldiers, regardless of who they are.

Under the Dawn Army’s deterrence, the crowd beca orderly again, comncing the evacuation swiftly.

Without chaos, evacuation efficiency was indeed higher.

Yet, everyone remained anxious because they could hear it—the distant roars of zombies growing louder.

Adding to the deserters from the Liberation Army’s words, everyone knew that zombies had breached the first city wall.

According to those people, the second wall lacked gates, implying it wouldn’t take long before zombies arrived.

Thus, this scene of détente by the Dawn Army was only temporary. If zombies truly arrived and evacuation wasn’t complete, these survivors would beco uncontrollable.

They would swarm at once, vying for escape opportunities, and unless the Dawn Army set up machine guns and gunned them all down, controlling them would be impossible.

......

"Officer, we’re here! I wasn’t late, was I?"

The Second Field Corps, led by Xu Haoran, arrived panting beside Ye Fan.

At this mont, Ye Fan was on the second city wall, observing through a radar screen the corpse crowds spreading from both sides.

These corpse crowds finally breached the first city wall, entering Ice City Base.

No clue whether the Corpse King there was enraged, but the incoming corpse crowd totaled over a million.

They overrun the walls from both sides, charging forward with roars, seeking anything to devour.

However, there were no living people here; even bodies had been burned, leaving them nothing to consu, so they headed toward the second city wall.

Right at this ti, the Second Field Corps arrived.

"No, you ca just in ti."

Seizing the mont before zombies approached, Ye Fan quickly assigned tasks to Xu Haoran.

"The Second Field Corps doesn’t need to guard the walls; leverage your strong mobility to kill zombies falling from the walls, especially the fast Agile Zombies, preventing them from rapidly entering the city, buying us evacuation ti. Hold for three hours to complete your task."

"Understood, Officer, I’ll do it."

Xu Haoran received the order, keeping soldiers aboard vehicles, driving them near the second city wall.

On the other side of the wall, corpse crowds were crazily constructing human ladders.

A ten-ter-high wall is challenging for most zombies, but with countless zombies piling up together, they quickly beca a massive pile.

So zombies climbed this body pile, revealing themselves on the wall.

First to fire were snipers of the First Corps.

Handling these zombies just peeking over the walls was their forte, shooting them down one by one swiftly.

Seeing one hard spot, zombies quickly piled up a second, third body mass.

All along the walls, zombies started appearing constantly.

The soldiers of the Second Corps had to disperse. Each battalion, each company, had its own position to guard, and began a constant sniper attack.

This sniping went on for a while, and the snipers started to beco overwheld.

Because there were too many zombies, outside the second wall, fifty or sixty giant piles of zombies had already ford. The zombie horde appeared quickly from various places, and so zombies couldn’t be sniped in ti and fell off the walls.

Falling from a height of ten ters, many zombies broke their legs, unable to move temporarily.

However, their bodies beca a cushion, reducing the impact for the next falling comrades.

Once enough zombies had fallen, a new pile began to form gradually on the ground, preventing those who fell later from breaking their legs or smashing their heads.

So zombies began to stand up after tumbling, stumbling toward the soldiers of the Second Corps.

Those that approached weren’t the primary sniping targets; the main task of the Second Corps was to kill the agile zombies.

Because agile zombies were fast, they might reach the city faster and get to several evacuation points of the Dawn Army.

The soldiers continually fired from inside the vehicles. One person’s bullets ran out, and the second person imdiately replenished, allowing the first to change magazines.

This thod kept the firepower constant, preventing the zombies from getting closer.

As more zombies appeared, the soldiers of the Second Corps began to retreat.

They retreated bit by bit along the streets and alleys of Ice City, leaving behind a ground full of zombie corpses.

Ice City, with a population of five million, was a big enough place that if it were the early apocalypse, a defense could last not just three hours but even five.

But now it’s different; the zombies have evolved considerably. Within this massive attacking horde, there are almost no zombies left that haven’t devoured flesh.

Even though most haven’t reached mutation level, they have evolved sowhat.

Those staggering, slow-moving zombies are hardly seen now.

Moreover, as the battle continued, they found that zombies weren’t so easy to deal with.

The zombie horde seed to sense where people were. Even with soldiers constantly shooting and leading zombies down wrong paths, they remained unfazed, steadily advancing in their predetermined direction.

anwhile, zombies were crossing the river all over, and more entered the city.

Walking, the horde split into three groups.

One group, roughly seven to eight hundred thousand zombies, progressed towards the airport.

Another, the largest, with several million zombies, spread towards the north gate.

The last smaller group, about three hundred thousand zombies, moved towards East Station.

The Second Corps had tried their utmost to obstruct them, but their effectiveness was waning.

A significant number of agile zombies, mutant rats, crawlers, and mutated birds surged forward, engaging the Second Corps and preventing them from focusing on the main horde.

The advancent of those three large hordes had beco unstoppable. Xu Haoran could fulfill Ye Fan’s three-hour assignnt but couldn’t do more.

During this period, Ye Fan continued with the evacuation and distribution of the survivors.

These three hours were precious; nearly thirty thousand survivors had been evacuated.

Now, all survivors in Ice City, along with the Dawn Army, amounted to just over ten thousand.

Seeing the largest horde move north, the transportation at the north gate halted.

A few survivors were temporarily sent to East Station, including the airport area, too. Because many mutated birds headed there, air transport was unsafe.

The final truck and plane transports ceased, with all remaining personnel shifted to East Station.

Here at East Station, it’s still overcrowded. Around ten thousand people are cramd in, and the First Field Corps is here, maintaining order and preparing to evacuate.

From a high vantage point, you see the waiting hall of East Station, including the plaza in front—all packed with people.

A zombie horde, numbering three hundred thousand, is less than five kiloters from East Station.

The Second Corps continued to entangle with and strive to delay the horde’s advance.

.....

Among the horde, a massive vehicle blended in, progressing with the zombies.

This vehicle was purely a tal beast without any human scent. Even the surrounding zombies showed no interest.

Inside, Guo Zhun sat at the driver’s seat, face full of fervor and hatred.

This was his ard mining vehicle, superbly sealed with zombie blood coating the exterior—making it unseen as occupied, thus preventing zombie attacks.

After disbanding the Liberation Army, he hadn’t left Ice City imdiately.

Going to Jiangzhou now wouldn’t end well; without Ice City, he would lose his value, a fact he was acutely aware of.

His mind was single-tracked: revenge, or watching Ye Fan fail.

In the vehicle’s communication system and TV, the broadcast from Dawn TV Station was ongoing, informing him that Ye Fan was at East Station.

As the zombie army entered the city, he followed the horde towards East Station.

Learning that ten thousand people gathered at East Station finalized Guo Zhun’s decision to witness the spectacle.

Ye Fan, didn’t you claim on TV never to abandon anyone?

With zombies at your doorstep, I want to see if you’ll keep your promise!

He must get dirt on Ye Fan. If unsuccessful, he’d rather be cursed and use the vehicle’s machine guns to help the horde breach East Station’s doors, ensuring those who’ve betrayed him pay the price!
