The car had been driving for a while, and their conversation had ended so ti ago.

You Shuyang stared straight ahead, but his mind was in turmoil.

He was not one to hesitate, but this ti, it seed he couldn’t even see through his own heart.

The peculiar atmosphere between Yan Shuo and Wang Qi always left him feeling uncomfortable.

This feeling was utterly awful.

After an internal struggle, You Shuyang finally spoke up.

"Um, I have a rather personal question. Don’t take it the wrong way—you don’t have to answer."

"What is it?"

You Shuyang paused for a mont, then slowly spoke, "Did you know Yan Shuo before?"

Hearing this, Wang Qi turned her head to glance at him, slightly raising an eyebrow, and answered, "Yes. Do you want to know how we t?"

You Shuyang gave a dry cough, nodding, "I’m a bit interested, but it’s up to you whether you want to tell ."

Wang Qi glanced at him, thinking to herself how he was asking a question yet still seed hesitant. If he wanted to know, then know, but he wanted to give himself an out to avoid awkwardness.

The assistant’s thoughts were really ticulous, calculating even sothing so small.

Did he really not want to know?

Wang Qi felt a bit frustrated.

She leaned back her head and rolled down the car window, letting the cool breeze in, feeling imnsely refreshed.

Her gaze moved along with the scenery outside, the colorful neon lights outside transforming in her eyes.

She slowly began to speak, "Actually, I’ve known Yan Shuo for a very long ti..."

So long that her mory started to blur.

If she hadn’t suddenly seen him today, she thought, she might never have recalled this person in her life.

Eight years ago, Wang Qi went to a foreign school as an exchange student, and that’s where she t Yan Shuo.

Back then, Yan Shuo was notorious at school for being solitary, having a bad temper, very peculiar. No one wanted to be friends with him, so he was often alone.

And there she was in a foreign country, unfamiliar with her surroundings, though her spoken English was fluent and her foreign language grades were excellent, there was still a gap with the locals, so no one really wanted to communicate with her. Feeling down, she went to the rooftop to find her own world.

It was there that she t Yan Shuo.

He didn’t react much to her sudden appearance, acting indifferent.

She also thought he was a strange person and decided it was best not to interact.

So, in the vast rooftop, they each occupied a side, not interfering with one another.

Afterward, they almost t on the rooftop every day, but never spoke.

She practiced her spoken language alone with books here every day, her voice already as low as possible, but one day, the person across still walked over.

She was sitting on the ground, with a shadow falling over her. She looked up, and he spoke to her for the first ti, coldly.

"You’re too noisy."

Wang Qi was utterly speechless. Her voice was as low as a mosquito, she could barely hear it herself, what noise!

With her naturally strong and straightforward personality, these words made her feel uncomfortable.

She stood up, dusted off her clothes, raised her chin, "Classmate, are you picking a fight on purpose!"

In fact, Wang Qi didn’t quite understand how it happened, he actually took a seat on the ground beside her and unceremoniously grabbed her book to start teaching her spoken language.

Wang Qi always felt bewildered by it. Were they that familiar? He was so informal with her?

More surprisingly, his English was surprisingly excellent, without any discernible national difference.

So in the days that followed, they t on the rooftop daily, and he took charge of her spoken English.

With his help, her English improved rapidly. She could communicate fluently with classmates, adapt to their interactions, and gradually made more friends.

But she still went to the rooftop for their appointnts every day, sotis practicing spoken English, sotis he would teach her coursework.

Her grades during her exchange program abroad steadily improved, in large part thanks to Yan Shuo.

Over ti, she gradually realized her feelings for Yan Shuo, a growing distinct feeling in her heart.

Having interacted with her foreign friends for a long ti and being a straightforward and decisive person herself, she bluntly confessed her feelings to Yan Shuo.

She still rembered that day when she confessed. The wind on the rooftop was strong, and it blew her hair into disarray.

"Yan Shuo, we’ve known each other for more than half a year. During this ti, you’ve helped a lot, and I’m really grateful. I wanted to say, it seems I’ve started to like you, and often feel different when I’m with you."

Because of the strong wind, she could only squint slightly, occasionally using her hand to brush aside her hair to avoid it being a bother.

Wang Qi looked seriously at Yan Shuo, "You’re such a peculiar person..., but you’re willing to patiently teach , help . I thought you must feel sothing for too, right?"

She was asking if he had feelings for her too.

Perhaps it was because of the strong wind at the ti, blowing her hands cold, and making her heart feel a bit cold too.

Wang Qi watched Yan Shuo for a long ti, and there was a long silence between them.

Gradually, the light that had been in Wang Qi’s eyes began to dim.

She heard him softly speak, "I’m sorry."

Since knowing him, apart from teaching her spoken language and coursework, he rarely spoke. She had to say ten sentences for him to respond with one, and most were monosyllabic words.

"I’m sorry" were words he had never said; with his personality, he was not one to say such things.

And now, he actually said it to her.

Wang Qi felt a bit of heartache and also a bit surprised.

He never bothered to say these three words, maybe because after all the ti they’ve known each other, though there wasn’t that kind of romantic feeling, there must be friendship.

She should feel fortunate that based on this friendship, such an awkward scene didn’t lead to them becoming estranged and parting ways.

Wang Qi generously replied to him, "You have nothing to apologize for, it was being too self-indulgent, causing you distress. It’s who should apologize. But I hope we can still be friends. I won’t let this inappropriate feeling continue, won’t make things awkward for us any further. Let’s forget what just happened."

Yan Shuo looked deeply at her and nodded slightly, "Okay."

Wang Qi smiled, "Alright, I won’t bother you then. I have class later, I’ll go first, goodbye."

"Goodbye."

Wang Qi decisively turned to leave, unaware that Yan Shuo behind her was watching her back intently, his usually expressionless eyes showing a complex light.

"I’m sorry, truly sorry."

His voice was very light, only audible to himself, then taken away by the increasingly strong wind on the rooftop, leaving no trace.

It’s not that I don’t have feelings for you, but being born into such a family, there’s much that’s beyond my control.
