Boundless Universe.
Earth Civilization’s thirty escape pods were accelerating away.
Behind them chased a colossal Cosmic Battleship asuring one hundred thousand ters.
The Cosmic Battleships of the Double Star Civilization were equipped with the most advanced Annihilation Engines, allowing even such massive vessels to swiftly accelerate to half the speed of light—150,000 kiloters per second.
After all, the Double Star Civilization has been a second-level civilization far longer than Earth Civilization and had more mature applications in various aspects of Annihilation Technology, including the Annihilation Engines.
Thus, the 25th Squadron of the Double Star Civilization was sowhat faster than the escape pods, gradually closing the distance under these circumstances.
When the distance between them reduced from ten astronomical units to nine, eight, seven... to one astronomical unit.
The Captain of the 25th Squadron of the Double Star Civilization imdiately issued an attack command, and the Cosmic Battleship fired a hundred-ter-wide electromagnetic gun at the last escape pod.
The electromagnetic gun, moving at the speed of light, could reach one astronomical unit in about eight minutes, though it would lose so potency during flight and pursuit. However, when the electromagnetic gun struck the last escape pod, it still spanned fifty ters across and obliterated the small pod into pieces.
"Damn it! These cursed aliens!"
Inside one of the escape pods, Wan Liqi saw her companion being sacrificed and couldn’t help but curse furiously.
She then took initiative to contact the other escape pods to share so information and opinions, alleviating so emotional stress together.
Unfortunately, her efforts were of little avail under the incessant pressure from the Cosmic Battleship of the Double Star Civilization. As they gradually approached, multiple escape pods were destroyed by Energy Weapons; within three to four months, a total of eight pods were destroyed.
But now, they were left with only twenty escape pods.
This was because during the escape, so accidents occurred.
Two escape pods had trendously bad luck as they were hit by teorites from the side, causing the pods to break apart and the personnel inside to quickly die in the vacuum of space.
Wan Liqi reported these incidents to Earth Civilization every ti.
Earth Civilization was aware, but due to the great distances, their responses were limited to providing comfort, encouragent, and quietly accruing rage—offering no practical solutions.
Ti passed in this increasingly desperate situation day by day.
Everyone inside the escape pods was tornted during this ti, their spirits drained and their bodies wasting away, growing weaker day by day.
Just then, they were t with another devastating piece of news — the pursuing Cosmic Battleship was now within 300,000 kiloters.
At such a distance, the Energy Attacks launched by the Cosmic Battleship of the Double Star Civilization could catch up to the escape pods in just a second, rendering them utterly unable to dodge given their structure and speed.
So, after the Double Star Civilization destroyed another five escape pods, eleven of the remaining people in the fifteen pods couldn’t bear it anymore—five of them decided to sacrifice themselves. They restarted the propulsion systems of their pods, controlling and steering directly towards the oncoming Cosmic Battleship from behind.
Even though Wan Liqi and Earth Civilization kept persuading, even commanding them not to proceed, they could not alter their decision.
At that mont, the resolved and gaunt faces of those five had an extrely determined expression, flying into the fla like moths to light, undeterred by the known outco.
This was because they knew very well that nobody would survive until the rescue ships arrived if things continued this way, hence they could only sacrifice themselves to buy so ti for the others.
"Heh, thinking that rely five escape pods could destroy a Cosmic Battleship or buy so ti? How naïve!"
Upon hearing the report of this scene, the Captain of the 25th Squadron of the Double Star Civilization coldly scoffed. Imdiately following, the Captain ordered the launch of a capture net.
"The five capture nets accurately ensnared the five incoming escape pods, then the Cosmic Battleship retracted and controlled the net heads, forcibly reducing the impact speed of the escape pods.
Eventually, the escape pods and the Earth People inside were captured alive by the Double Star Civilization.
Originally, these five individuals planned to sacrifice themselves to buy ti for their companions, but unexpectedly, they did not perish. Instead, they were captured alive by the Double Star Civilization without buying even a brief mont of ti for the others; their initial two objectives completely unt.
Such is the unpredictability of life, changing in unfathomable ways.
Furthermore, a very dramatic scene unfolded at this mont.
After capturing the five escape pods, the warships of the Double Star Civilization fired three energy attacks, directly destroying the last three escape pods.
Unexpectedly, those who resolved to die did not die; those who desperately fled perished.
It seed like a malicious joke by the Double Star Civilization, seemingly toying and mocking the Earth People inside the escape pods with such acts.
Now, twelve escape pods were still fleeing at an exceedingly high speed.
But upon seeing those who went to face death did not die, while those intent on escaping were killed by the Double Star Civilization.
The remaining twelve people in the escape pods instantly realized that this was all intentional by the Alien Civilization, aid at sending them a ssage.
Surrender might lead to survival, while fleeing leads only to death!
Upon realizing this, ten of the twelve escape pods began to turn around and headed straight towards the Double Star Civilization’s Cosmic Battleship.
At such a mont, it was unclear whether these ten escape pods’ occupants wanted to survive, or genuinely wanted to sacrifice themselves to buy ti for their companions.
In any case, it was very dramatic that both objectives were actually achieved.
The Double Star Civilization spent so ti capturing the ten escape pods coming from different directions, allowing the two frontmost escape pods to distance themselves.
Wan Liqi’s escape pod was one of them.
After gaining distance, she imdiately reported the situation to Earth Civilization.
Given the intelligence of Earth Civilization and Lu Chen of Constant Star, it was imdiately clear to them that this was an act of manipulation by the Alien Civilization.
This made the shared life community of them intensely furious, directly placing this Alien Civilization on their death list.
However, they did not bla the ten people in the escape pods.
They understood that wanting to survive is one of any living being’s basic instincts.
Moreover, Earth Civilization had long established regulations similar to this; in interstellar travel, besides the main mission, the most important thing is survival.
Because only through survival could Earth Civilization possibly find and rescue them.
Thus, Earth Civilization not only did not bla them but also appreciated the cleverness of those ten individuals.
During a crisis, they knew how to adapt, preserving their own lives while also preventing their companions from becoming captives; indeed, this was the best possible outco in the worst scenario.
However, the twenty-fifth fleet of the Double Star Civilization clearly was not willing to let the final two escape pods escape. Considering they had already captured fifteen escape pods, the last two seed unimportant. Therefore, the twenty-fifth fleet then launched two massive electromagnetic gun attacks, each hundred ters wide, at the two distant escape pods.
Given the speed of the escape pods, it was impossible to evade such formidable energy attacks.
Therefore, after launching the energy attacks, the twenty-fifth fleet of the Double Star Civilization directly ordered a course reversal to return ho."
