Wait, What You Mean I Got Reincarnated As A Heroine In Another World? Chapter 2 - Magic
In my hand, I was holding a rosemary flower, its fragrance was captivating. I imdiately noticed the texture and sweet scent of the said flower which stung right into my nostrils.
And after a bit of observation, it seed as if I was in an ’operation room’ akin to a doctor, with the only difference being that I didn’t have any modern equipnt for surgical procedures. I shook my head in disbelief, uncertain with what I was seeing.
So, how could I be here, without modern dical equipnt, yet with the familiar scent of rosemary? Was this a dream, or a mory being called back?
Nope.
Just like before, I was about to perform surgery into my patient, but this ti with a completely different procedure and thodology.
However, by all of a sudden... soone who had scread my na earlier tapping my shoulder from behind, as she was doing so with enough pressure to startle .
"Miss Veylith! We are in a critical situation!"
Her voice broke my reverie, waking up from a seemingly endless monologue.
Wait, who is she? And what was she doing here?
Ah, now I just rembered.
She’s my beloved apprentice and assistant, Sienna, who has been assisting for months.
"Oh, sorry. I was thinking about sothing." I made up an excuse to hide the shaful fact that I had been daydreaming for a few hours, or possibly only a few minutes in this scene.
"You must be thinking about the operation, right, Veylith-san?" Sienna looked at with wide, anxious eyes. I then stared her back with my cautious and lifeless eyes.
"Yes, it seems so." She was flushed with her cheerful face after I replied.
I nodded, then observed Eiri. She is a Geflügel, a rare and valuable avian race. In this world, they are the cornerstone of aviation, capable of flying quickly and enduringly in the air. However, their existence is threatened by illegal hunting and trade. In Ains Ein Doa, they are protected, but outside, they are commodities.
This also applies to Sienna, who stood right beside as of now.
"So, what is it?" She asked, attempting to shift the topic.
"It seems to be pneumonia."
"Pneumonia? What’s that?" Sienna looked puzzled, tilting her head in confusion.
Ah, damn it. I forgot that Latin dical terms sounded so foreign to them. Because here, the "German" language is more commonly used for dical diagnoses.
"Sorry, I ant Lungenentzündung." I blurted out, quickly correcting my earlier statent.
Nordic is the street tongue, a conversational language. But when it cos to dicine, it shifts to ’German’... no, Prussia-Magna here.
Nordic, the commoner language, was forged by seven major kingdoms. It’s ultimately the linkage for trading purpose and vocabulary for all creatures, whether rich or poor.
This land then, Ains Ein Doa, becos the heart of education. Golden children from other kingdoms were sent here to grasp for higher education.
Sienna was one of these supposedly ’golden’ children. She then ca all the way from Austro-Holland and I guess... duly, found herself apprenticed to , sort of.
Because, you know, ’protocols’ or whatever it was. Well, not that I’m complaining.
"So, is it that chronic, Miss Veylith?"
I, who had been muttering to myself, was startled and answered it without hesitation.
"Yes, it seems we need to prepare a magic potion to prevent the patient’s lungs from clogging. Quickly, Sienna."
"Alright, I’ll prepare it." Sienna moved quickly, her hands deftly grabbing potions. She brought licorice, thy, and honey as healing catalysts.
"I’ll examine the patient’s condition with clairvoyance," I said, closing my eyes and focusing my mana. "We must act quickly. Their lungs are weakening." I then began the incantation process.
"How is it Sienna, are you ready yet?"
"No, not yet! I’m still mixing." Her hands looked trembling while her cheeks were flushed.
The atmosphere in this room was different from a modern operating room.
It’s so intense, and all the procedures were incredibly complex, requiring exceptional precision to ensure the patient’s safety.
But here... sohow, everything happens magically, both the equipnt and the herbal redies, and the atmosphere is calm and unhurried, as if ti flies...
"It’s ready." Sienna handed the potion.
I imdiately took the prepared ingredients and concentrated my mana to lift the fluid from the patient’s lungs. Nope, not as simple as flipping one’s hand. Well, I wish.
Just because it’s all-magic doesn’t an I can do such a trivial thing carelessly.
So please, don’t be mistaken, because my energy will be drained by doing this seemingly simpleton task as if you were to be headless while performing such a spell.
In principle, it’s akin to surgery, but not in a way it’s perford. Exhausting procedure whereas your hands indirectly work as tools is required to obtain
stability. Thus, both hands must be in-control with the plants to avoid harming the patient. No one-handed tasks, as it requires full concentration.
"How is it, Miss Veylith?" Sienna asked, her voice tense.
I answered with full awareness, "It’s done. The patient is now asleep." I wiped the sweat from my forehead, eventually witnessing the patient in its most serene state.
"Great! That ans everything’s done, right? YAYYY!"
This kid...
I thought to myself, limping on my own as I watched her jumping around like a dove.
Such a silly gē zi, a little dove, she is.
"I want to go for a walk with Milena Sis. I’m kind of bored, it’s not fun to do this job!"
"Milena? Where is she?" I asked.
Suddenly, the door opened.
Milena stood in the doorway, her hands holding a basket full of flowers.
"I’m here." she said, her voice was soft but sharp.
"Sienna, I’ve just finished gardening. Let’s go."
"MILENA SIS!" Sienna ran towards her.
Milena looked at , her sharp eyes were scanning for my presence.
"Thank you, Veylith-san, for your help."
"You’re welco," I replied, looking at her with almost the sa expression.
Milena, with her sharp gaze and graceful movents, being mysterious per usual, leaving the scene unhurriedly while taking her sister for a stroll.
Similar to her little sister, Milena was, at one point, my apprentice before by all of a sudden losing control with her magic energy usage. Sienna, concerned about her condition, wanted to replace her despite I never needed any apprentice to begin with, as they both solely volunteered to beco one. What a pain.
Apparently, after such a traumatic event, she said she wanted to do gardening instead. So. I gave her necessarily tools that I obtained from a neighbour, with the garden was placed right behind this wooven-walled bamboo cottage.
"Miss Veylith, We’ll be going now,"
Milena said, then turned and walked away with Sienna.
I watched them leave as I was asking to myself. Oh yeah, so of you might be wondering how I ended up here or perhaps my origins before becoming a compounder alchemist.
In a small village, on the edge of a green and remote forest, I had witnessed nurous things which ended up changing my perception about the world once for all. Sothing that would make feel more alienated akin to my previous life.
Actually, no...
Instead of being abruptly deceitful and cutthroat with my narrative, perhaps the ’past’ before I had been sent here would’ve been more than important to reveal.
