–Chapter 4: Lessons in Gravity–

---

The morning sun broke slowly through the forest canopy, washing the world in muted gold. Dew clung to the leaves, sparkling like shards of glass, and a faint mist curled around the trunks of ancient pines. The air slled of wet moss and smoke, the lingering mory of last night’s campfire.

John sat cross legged in the center of a small clearing, the soft grass damp beneath him. He exhaled slowly and let his eyes drift closed, listening to the forest. A breeze stirred the branches above, carrying the distant caw of a crow and the trickle of water sowhere nearby. Insects humd faintly under the leaves. For the first ti in his new life, he felt... anchored.

He had done it. He was finally a mage.

With a thought, he called the system to life. A faint blue shimr flickered before his eyes, crisp and familiar.

John dismissed the screen with a blink and let the information settle in. He clenched his fist, feeling the faint hum of mana under his skin. It was like a current running through his body, gentle but undeniable. Every inhale drew it in, and every exhale spread it out, as if the world itself had beco part of him. The air, the earth beneath his legs, even the soft drip of water in the distance—it all felt connected to him.

He opened his eyes to find Fizz hovering inches from his nose.

"Did the shiny stones make you feel important?" the little red puffball asked, his big eyes glinting with mischief. "Did they whisper, ’Oh John, you are finally special’? Because I could do that for free."

John sighed. "Good morning, Fizz."

Fizz sorsaulted backward in the air, his tiny wings buzzing like an insect. "Good morning, Circle One John. Slayer of snakes. Collector of sparkly murder marbles. Future danger to society. Master Forgetful."

"Are you done?" John asked with an annoyed off face.

"No. Lesson one of Fizz School of Cosmic Destruction begins now." He puffed his chest and pointed a paw toward John’s hand. "Summon your ball... I want to see your ball. The baby apocalypse ball."

John arched his brow. "You an the Black Hole Palm?"

"I an your adorable, tiny, world ending marble of doom," Fizz said. "Summon it. I need to know if you can hold your black ball without crying."

"Fizz, you sound very bad. Stop saying ball. It felt like sothing else."

"No it doesn’t. Your mind is dirty. It a black ball of destruction."

"Unbelievable..." John shook his head but raised his right hand and opened his palm. He inhaled and followed the system’s guidance, feeling mana flow along the new pathways in his chest and arms. It was smoother than before, like water through polished channels.

A faint darkness coalesced in his palm. It started as a smudge, a shadow that ate the light around it, and then it solidified into a coin sized black sphere. Its edges bent the morning sun like ripples in water. The grass around his hand shivered as if a breeze passed, though the air was still.

Even though it was tiny, John could feel its pull. A strange weight humd in his arm.

Fizz’s eyes widened, his grin almost splitting his face. "Ahhh, look at that! Baby ball of doom has arrived! So small. So deadly. So cute. It is like , but not fluffy like ."

John concentrated, holding the black hole steady. "It feels heavy... like it is trying to swallow everything, even ."

"Well, that is what black holes do," Fizz said cheerfully, orbiting his hand. "Rule one: do not eat yourself. Rule two: do not eat . Rule three: eat everything else. Got it?"

John’s arm trembled slightly before he willed the black hole to dissipate. It faded, leaving a tingling sensation in his palm and a faint drain in his mana.

The forest seed to exhale, the birds resuming their distant chirping, unaware of the predator of worlds that had just been born in their midst.

Fizz floated backward and clapped his tiny paws. "Good. Step one complete. You have successfully made a baby apocalypse ball. Step two will be movent and aiming, and step three is making other people scream in fear like a panic fucking goat. But before we get there..." He floated backward and twirled in midair, his wings buzzing like a tiny drumroll.

John narrowed his eyes. "You’re building up to sothing, aren’t you?"

"Of course I am," Fizz said with a grin so wide it nearly split his face. "Lesson zero point five... is appreciation. You must admire the glory of the void. Feel its hunger. Respect it... and then abuse it for fun and beat the shit out of your enemies."

John rubbed his temple. "I feel like learning from you is going to take years off my life."

"Or add years to mine," Fizz said, puffing out his chest. "Alright, step two. Movent. Your baby black doom ball is cute, but cute doesn’t kill. If you just hold it in your palm, enemies will laugh at you before stabbing you. So we make it move."

John raised his palm again and inhaled, calling mana along his veins. It responded faster this ti, the threads smoother, as if his body had started to understand the rhythm. Darkness blood, eating the light around it, and the black hole coalesced in his hand like a perfect little sphere of night.

Even though it was the size of a coin, John felt its true power. Not physically dragging, but a deep pressure in his chest, a reminder that it wanted to devour everything if he let it.
