"I really need a mask at this point," I muttered, sighing and rubbing my temple.

Right now, I was in tro, the sprawling city owned by the academy. It was bustling, with lights blazing from every building, advertising shops and eateries left and right. Seekers were calling out, hoping to catch the attention of anyone who even remotely looked like a potential buyer. This place was the academy’s heart, connecting every zone. It also housed the only portal leading to the outside world, so it was kind of a big deal. Nyways, when we beco upper-level guardians, we’d be granted free access to this place.

I glanced around, taking in the crowds. Many of the students here were from my zone, their eyes wide as they soaked up the sights. Most of them were just thrilled to see sothing beyond the towering skyscraper and the classrooms they’d been stuck in for eight years. The best part was that, since this place was technically academy-owned, the point-based currency system applied here too. So, those with a load of points were probably living it up right now, eating and buying whatever caught their fancy.

But back to , your humble narrator. I had a problem—a problem that had been bugging ever since I stepped out of the portal.

Nurous eyes followed my every move.

Damn. Being this handso was truly a curse.

[...Why do I feel like you’re enjoying this? Why are you happy about it?!] echoed the voice in my head, seething with frustration. The little bastard could scream all he wanted, but I paid him no mind. His attempts to ss with had all backfired by now, and it was almost satisfying.

"Well... it actually isn’t too bad," I smirked, spotting a girl staring at , wide-eyed. I winked, and her face flushed deep red before she promptly fainted. Literally. Well, she passed out, but still—it was a sight to see.

But jokes aside, there was sothing more unsettling. I felt like soone else was watching , soone I wouldn’t be so thrilled about. I kept getting this prickling sensation, like a hidden presence was tracking my every step. With the place so crowded, I couldn’t pinpoint who it was, but it kept on edge.

"Yeah... how about a soak in a hot spring and so food?" a voice called out from one of the booths. I was about to ignore it when a sudden growl from my stomach reminded of just how hungry I was.

"Alright," I said, catching the man’s eyes, which widened in surprise. "Really?" he asked, as if in disbelief. I frowned. "Yeah... but how much does that cost?"

"Just a hundred points," he replied with a grin. I checked my graphto-watch for my balance.

[Nexus Points: 500]

Only 500? I’d half expected to see thousands, given how Leo was supposed to be a die-character. But, then again, lower-rank students didn’t get many points to begin with.

"All right," I said, and he led toward a nearby building.

Inside, the place was packed with students. I wasn’t the only one who had decided to spend a hundred nexus points on a bit of luxury. With our monthly allowance halted during the break, this might be one of the last chances for a decent al in a while. I was directed to a line, and I waited until it was my turn. Finally, I was handed a plan list.

There were multiple options, ranging from the cheapest at ten nexus points to the more extravagant ones costing over a hundred. The cheaper options barely included food or other anities, but if I was going to splurge, I figured I might as well go all out.

I selected the expensive plan and was led, along with several others, to a massive hot spring. The bathhouse was nothing short of impressive. A hot bath? How in the world did they set this up inside a school-owned facility? The thought lingered, but I didn’t let it distract from enjoying myself—well, that was until I noticed the stares from the other guys around .

Jeez, I had to cover up just to stop them from gawking. What was up with these people? I wasn’t here for any... questionable admiration. I wasn’t about to entertain that idea, either.

After a long, awkward bath, I finally stepped out, wrapped myself in a towel, and was escorted to a dining room. The place was crowded, with students eagerly feasting on various dishes. I found a relatively quiet spot and sat down. A server approached, listing the options available. I chose sothing light to start with, sothing that would keep my appetite steady since it seed I was in for a long lunch.

"Sigh... I regret nothing," I muttered to myself, stepping back onto the street, my stomach full and my spirit content. I made my way back toward the portal that would take out of tro.

"Hey," a voice called. I turned, feeling the hairs on the back of my neck stand up as a figure stepped out from the shadows.

"You..." I stuttered, recognizing them imdiately. They pressed a finger to their lips and gestured toward a dark alley nearby. Every instinct in scread not to follow. I wasn’t stupid. But then I felt a cold, unmistakable shape pressed into my back—a gun.

With a dry gulp, I forced myself to move, each step heavier than the last. Sothing didn’t feel right about this. It was as if sothing was trying to pull back, to keep from stepping outside Terium Nexus. Just what is happening?

[You lasted... probably longer than ever before. But... this is it.]

"Damn it," I muttered, stepping reluctantly into the alleyway. "What do you—"

Before I could finish, sothing hard struck the back of my head. My vision blurred, and darkness crept in around .

’Just what is going on?’ I thought, staring up at Jayden, his face twisted in a maniacal grin. Wasn’t he supposed to be the protagonist?

"Damn it," I whispered, my consciousness slipping away.
