Chapter 38: Marriage
After Lin Jia resigned, she followed Yang Yu to Shanghai. Ding Dian planned to join them once she finished handling the café.
anwhile, ng Yun and Yu Fei had been having a streak of bad luck. A few days ago, a design they submitted for a client was exposed as plagiarism.
At first, they didn’t take it seriously. ng Yun was confident he hadn’t copied anyone’s work, so he wasn’t afraid of an investigation.
But then, one plagiarism accusation after another surfaced.
Governnt agencies began inspecting their company one after another, making it impossible for the business to operate normally. As rumors spread, they lost all potential clients.
By now, if they still didn’t realize soone was targeting them, they would have been fools.
At first, they racked their brains but couldn’t figure out who was behind it. They hadn’t offended anyone, let alone soone with such influence.
But then, they saw Lin Jia’s social dia post—a photo of her hand adorned with a diamond ring.
In that mont, everything clicked.
The only person they could have possibly offended was Yang Yu.
Desperate, they called Lin Jia and Ding Dian to confirm if Yang Yu was responsible.
Ding Dian had already blocked them, but Lin Jia hadn’t. She agreed to ask Yang Yu.
Of course, Yang Yu would never admit it.
He denied everything and said seriously, “If you don’t believe , I can even help them out of this situation to prove my innocence.”
Lin Jia hesitated before cautiously asking, “Even though we broke up, we did spend ti together. If—just if—you could help them, would you?”
Yang Yu smiled. “Helping them is no big deal to , but you have to agree to two conditions.”
“What conditions?”
“Agree first, then I’ll tell you. If you don’t agree, I won’t say anything.”
Lin Jia thought about it. She already belonged to him, so what could he possibly demand that would trouble her?
“Fine, I agree.”
“First, after I help them, you’re not allowed to have any contact with them. Not even a little.” Yang Yu said seriously.
Lin Jia nodded. She had never intended to reach out to them anyway. She had only refrained from blocking them. Seeing how serious Yang Yu was, she assud he was just jealous.
“Second, I want to take the road less traveled.”
With that, he burst into laughter and ran off.
Lin Jia stood frozen for a mont before she realized what he ant. Her face instantly turned red, and she stomped her foot in frustration.
Yang Yu had been thinking about this for a long ti, but she had always refused. She had even looked it up online—apparently, it was painful…
There was no escaping it this ti.
With that settled, Yang Yu ordered the attacks on ng Yun and Yu Fei’s company to stop.
But the damage was already done. Their company was beyond saving. Bankruptcy was inevitable.
Years of effort had crumbled overnight. They hated Yang Yu with every fiber of their being, but they could do nothing about it.
After selling their cars and houses to pay off their debts, they took their remaining savings and moved to a small city, hoping for a fresh start.
But Yang Yu wasn’t going to give them that chance.
Their fates were sealed. They wouldn’t starve, but rebuilding their success was impossible. They would live out the rest of their lives in diocrity.
And just like that, the mission to collect luck was complete.
…
Later, Yang Yu helped Lin Jia and Ding Dian open a café in Shanghai.
He also arranged for both of their parents to move there.
Yang Yu and Lin Jia held a grand wedding, with Ding Dian as the bridesmaid.
Then, he took them on a trip around the world.
After the trip, Yang Yu saw that his ti was running out. It was ti to leave this world.
One morning after breakfast, as Lin Jia was getting ready to go to the café, Yang Yu stopped her.
“Don’t go today.”
“Why? What’s going on?”
“Let’s go get our marriage certificate.”
Even though they had already had a wedding, they had never made it official.
Lin Jia’s eyes filled with tears.
Ever since their wedding, Yang Yu had never brought up the marriage certificate, and it had always been a thorn in her heart. She never knew what he truly thought about their relationship.
But today, he finally said it.
Overwheld with emotion, she burst into tears.
Yang Yu comforted her, and after she cald down, she got dressed up beautifully. They went to the civil affairs office and officially registered their marriage.
After getting the certificate, they stayed in this world for a few more days.
Then, Yang Yu made his decision.
“System, it’s ti to leave this world.”
“Congratulations, host, on completing your first world mission.”
“Main mission completed: Luck Collection—50,000 points awarded.”
“Main mission completed: Change Lin Jia’s fate—40,000 points awarded.”
“Side mission completed: Change Ding Dian’s fate—10,000 points awarded.”
“Total points earned: 100,000.”
“Damn! 100,000 points?” Yang Yu laughed. “I just hit the jackpot.”
With that many points, he could exchange them for all kinds of things.
“What happens to this world after I leave?” Yang Yu asked.
“The ti in this world will be frozen until the host gains the ability to return,” the system responded.
“Do you want to leave now or wait until ti runs out?”
Yang Yu thought for a mont. “Give a few more hours.”
The system acknowledged his request and disappeared.
Before leaving, Yang Yu wanted to leave Lin Jia with a beautiful mory. At the very least, he owed her a romantic candlelit dinner.
But Lin Jia insisted on cooking herself, so they had a candlelit dinner at ho.
That night, after watching Lin Jia fall asleep, Yang Yu lit a cigarette.
“System, let’s go.”
Ding! Congratulations, host, on entering the second world.
