Chapter 614: 10.9 One Punch KO
RIING—!!
Lu Yizhou was startled awake by the blaring siren that resounded through the air. Any traces of sleepiness in his eyes imdiately dissipated as soon as he registered his surroundings. Foul curses from half-awake prisoners sounded one after another from outside, followed by noisy footsteps of the warden banging on their doors.
"Wake up! You have fifteen minutes to pee, shit or do whatever you want to! Fifteen minutes! If you’re late by one second, then no breakfast for you!"
At the ntion of food, the curses abruptly halted and only the commotion of people getting out of the bed and fighting to enter the bathroom could be heard.
Lu Yizhou slowly propped himself up and leaned against the wall. Icy dampness from the brick wall seeped into his thin clothes, making the little hair on the back of his neck raise. Tight lines ford between his brows. Just now, he suddenly got a sense of déjà vu, as if... he had done sothing like this not too long ago. It was so strange. He was sure that he had never done this before...
Christian sauntered out of the bathroom with a toothbrush hanging on his mouth. He glanced at Lu Yizhou’s direction and comnted casually, "Quite a heavy sleeper, aren’t you, newbie? When I first ca here, I couldn’t sleep for a week straight."
Lu Yizhou was so surprised that he could only stare at Christian in bewildernt. What did he just say? Heavy sleeper?? Unexpectedly, there finally ca a day when his na and heavy sleeper were put together in one sentence. Recalling his past record of relying on sleeping pills to get through the night, Lu Yizhou sank deeply into self-doubt.
[666: H–Host, he’s true! 666 has stayed vigil for the whole night and nothing happens at all! It’s just that you’re sleeping unusually deeply... Did you dream of sothing?]
Sothing flashed through his mind at 666’s question. But once he tried to grasp it, it imdiately slipped away like a mirage. Due to the incessant urge of the warden outside, Lu Yizhou could only shelve the doubt to the back of his mind for the ti being.
Sigh, yet another day of being treated like livestock...
Biting icy water splashed onto his face, sobering his mind up. He looked up to see a face 80% similar to his own, with ash-colored hair and sharp silver eyes. He was ready to use Christian’s bar soap on himself when he inadvertently caught sothing on the mirror. Frowning, Lu Yizhou tugged his collar aside to reveal a powerful, distinct nape. There was an inconspicuous reddish mark on his skin, almost unnoticeable if not for how keen his eyes were.
What was this...?
He traced the mark with the tip of his fingers. Unexpectedly, the surface of the skin was slightly uneven. And judging from the shape of the mark, it was like... a bite mark? That’s right, Lu Yizhou, who had ample experience for being a vampire, could easily discern that it was soone’s teeth marks imprinted on the side of his neck, similar to how a vampire would take a bite lightly out of his prey.
But how could sothing like this appear here? Even if there were vampires in this world, there was no way he would not notice if one were to get close enough to bite him on the neck. Not to ntion that 666 had also kept guard last night...
[Did nothing really happen last night?] Lu Yizhou asked again, doubtful.
[666: No–pe! Nothing can escape from 666’s sharp eyes. If you don’t believe , why don’t you ask the protagonist?]
Judging from Christian’s casual remark earlier, it could be concluded that nothing really happened. However, Lu Yizhou could not get rid of this nagging feeling in his mind. It was just his instinct speaking, but Lu Yizhou trusted it more than anything. Sothing must have happened last night.
As for what it was... he might need further observation to find out.
***
Life as a prisoner was really not easy.
After lining up and going through morning roll call, they were brought to a small dining hall where the food was already prepared. However, it was still nothing good. The rice already slled funny, the green vegetables had black patches on it, and the at was half-raw and still tasted faintly of fishy blood.
They had breakfast under the warden’s vicious glare with the tir ticking in his hands. Twenty minutes, no more and no less. If they took any longer than that, then the chip in their body would instantly be activated. The veteran prisoners were already numb to this whereas the two newcors aside from Lu Yizhou were so nervous that they could not swallow their food.
"W–Will it be like this every single ti?"
"No," a veteran mber sighed wearily. "It’s because you guys are new that they took special asures to emphasize the rule. Wait for a few days and after that, they will leave us alone. But it’s not like we can do whatever we want either." He shoved a spoonful of rice into his mouth and grumbled, "...it’s because of the fucking chip."
The two newcors heaved a sigh of relief.
Lu Yizhou, in return, only lowered his head down and ate in a well-behaved manner. Compared to the two newcors, he looked so calm and composed that if they did not know any better, they would think that he was a veteran too.
Christian could not help but give the man a few glances, "You really suit your title as a madman, newbie."
Question marks could be seen flying in front of Lu Yizhou’s face. Just where did that remark co from? With nothing to say, Lu Yizhou simply pretended as if he heard nothing altogether. Either way, nothing good would ever co out of being associated with the protagonist. It seed like there was a misinformation in the original plot. Christian was clearly this talkative but the plot made him to be cold and aloof in temperant. How ridiculous.
Christian did not mind to be ignored, but the sa could not be said toward the others, especially those who had a brief showdown with Lu Yizhou yesterday.
Bang!
The man slamd his tray on the table and stood up imposingly, causing the chair behind him to be dragged back in a sharp screech. Thick veins bulged out on the side of his neck as he pointed at Lu Yizhou, "What do you an by this attitude, huh?! I think you’re itching for a lesson!"
The warden only gave him a glance before looking away with a bored look. It was apparent that sothing like this was already a norm in this place. As long as they did not exceed the allocated ti, he was willing to turn a blind eye to what might transpire.
As if the man’s accusing remark switched sothing on, the atmosphere beca rowdy in an instant. The veteran prisoners banged the table and hooted excitedly, "Fight! Fight! Fight!"
Everyone’s blood was already boiling but Lu Yizhou, the related party, simply acted as if he noticed nothing. He ate his breakfast with grace and elegance as though it was not cheap prison food but a five-star Michelin steak. The contrast to the raucous atmosphere was so stark that it was quite laughable.
Christian finished his food in a few large bites and leaned back with a manner of wanting to watch a good show, even though he was clearly the source of all problems.
The veteran was enraged after being ignored. He simply grabbed Lu Yizhou’s table and flipped it upside down, causing the tray with half-finished food aside to scatter over the floor ssily. "Ignoring ?! You dare to ignore
in this kind of place?!"
Indeed, compared to Lu Yizhou who was slender and tall, the man’s body was packed with 85% bulging muscles. It was as if they were going to burst out of the seams of his clothes. In one glance, he looked like soone experienced in street fights. His temper was also very bad. Yesterday, it was him whose face had turned ugliest when Lu Yizhou confronted Christian regarding the boss. Simply put, he had the capital to be arrogant in prison. Since when had he put this little white flower in his eyes? If it was not because his face was not bad, he also would not be bothered about him!
Lu Yizhou stared at the broken plates and soiled food on the ground, then glanced at the warden who had looked over with faint interest. "I’m not the one who did it, so I’m not responsible for cleaning it."
The warden replied happily, "Sure."
"You—!!" The veteran’s eyes protruded from how hard he was glaring at Lu Yizhou. He simply bemoaned that he could not turn this person into minceat with the force of his glare alone! Heat rushed to his head and unable to endure it anymore, he rushed forward with his fist raised. "This Lord is going to take care of you—"
Crack! Bam!
The successful sounds of bones breaking and heavyweight falling to the ground with a thud imdiately turned the atmosphere ghastly silent. It was like soone had pressed a pause button, even the excited smiles were still plastered on their faces. Alas... the fight had already ended??
Everyone’s eyes widened in shock as they looked at the unconscious man with blood running down his ugly pig face. This... This was—
A one-punch KO...!
Lu Yizhou was also looking at his own fist in surprise. He did not expect that Leonard’s body would be so powerful. It was only one punch but he was able to knock the other unconscious... And judging from the amount of blood, it looked like the man’s condition was not any better than the prisoner who was electrocuted yesterday...
The warden walked over with an irked expression to check on the man’s injuries. In an instant, his face changed for the worse. "Dead," he declared.
Sharp gasps and shocked exclamations pierced through the tense air. Dead?! That man was dead just from one punch?! How... How could it be?! In an instant, everyone’s gaze toward Lu Yizhou was now tinged with wariness and fear. They had been inmates with the dead man for months and knew the extent of his strength. To kill this man with only one punch... this Leonard was truly terrifying! He was not soone they could offend at all!
Only Lu Yizhou was standing amidst the chaos with a confused frown on his face.
No, sothing was not right here. Even though he was still not familiar with Leonard’s body, it was not to the extent of failing to control his strength. He had held himself back when he retaliated earlier. At most, it could only cause a concussion. As for death... it was nearly impossible! What was going on?!
