When Cai Qiong heard Angel’s voice, she thought she was hallucinating. But when she turned her head, she saw Wang Jian walking in with Angel and an unfamiliar middle-aged man.

"What are you doing here?" Angel was stunned. Not only was she surprised to see Cai Qiong, but she was also baffled to find her at Wang Jian’s house, dressed in such casual, at-ho clothes.

"I..." Cai Qiong faltered, her gaze wandering between Wang Jian and Angel, unable to think of an excuse. She could only pin her hopes on Wang Jian, frantically signaling him with her eyes.

"Do you two know each other?" Wang Jian intervened.

"We’re classmates, from high school," Cai Qiong quickly replied.

"Right," Angel nodded, though she still looked at Cai Qiong with a puzzled expression. "Didn’t you say you’d co find when you had ti? How co..."

Before Cai Qiong could speak, Wang Jian sensed her predicant. Although he didn’t understand why, he ca up with an excuse for her. "Her dad and I know each other. After a while, we beca friends. She happens to be staying here for a few days."

"Ah, yes, yes, yes!" Cai Qiong nodded repeatedly, replying cheerfully. "I wanted to give you a surprise, so I deliberately told you I’d visit in a few days. I never expected you to co directly to his house. Well, so much for the surprise. It almost turned into a scare."

"Hahahaha." Angel didn’t seem to suspect anything, but when she looked at Wang Jian again, her gaze grew more appraising.

This village doctor actually knows the president of the Cai Group. That’s highly unusual. Not only that, but he’s also this close with the Cai family’s daughter... Forget a village doctor; even the director of the Cai family’s private hospital might not have this kind of personal relationship with the Cai father and daughter. And my intuition is telling there’s sothing unspoken going on between this man and woman.

Wang Jian led the group into his house without lingering in the yard. Inside, he introduced Xu Qian and Chairman Kang to Angel.

Seeing that Wang Jian and Cai Qiong weren’t living alone together, her suspicions were sowhat allayed. However, she then discovered a new bombshell.

"Mr. Kang, judging by your accent, are you from Capital City?" Angel asked, just making small talk. "Are you also here on vacation?"

Chairman Kang shook his head. "Not for vacation. I’m here to study dicine with my senior brother."

Huang Long also looked puzzled. "Senior brother?"

"Yes," Chairman Kang nodded. "Doctor Wang is my senior brother. We had the sa professor at university. I’m doing my internship now, and our professor approved my coming here to study."

Huang Long and Angel exchanged a look, thinking they had misheard.

A university student on his internship... instead of rotating through departnts at a major hospital, he cos to learn from a village doctor? Is this a joke?

Angel asked directly, "Are you from Kyoto dical University?"

That was the university ntioned in Wang Jian’s file. However, Chairman Kang hadn’t been around when Angel verified the information. She and her team were completely unaware that he had a student, so now that she’d heard, she naturally wanted to know more.

Chairman Kang nodded. "Yes. My professor is also Song Yijin."

"What?" Angel had heard of the professor. Years ago, when a severe infectious disease had broken out in the country, it was Professor Song who had provided the preventative formula that saved countless lives. She was certainly aware of such a remarkable figure.

They had assud Wang Jian was just a village doctor. Their file only contained his school, and they hadn’t bothered to dig deeper into who his ntor was. In their minds, a student who couldn’t make it in Capital City wasn’t likely to have a significant academic background... Well, it turned out they were wrong. You never know until you look, and what you find can be a real shock.

But the more they learned, the less they understood. Even as they left Wang Jian’s house, they still looked completely baffled.

On the way back to the town’s guesthouse, Huang Long broke the silence. "So, what do you think his angle is?"

"Huh? Whose?"

"That college student, Kang," Huang Long clarified.

Angel mused, "Didn’t he say? He’s here to study."

"I know," Huang Long scoffed. "What I an is, with so many hospitals in Capital City, even if his grades... his skills... aren’t that great, he could still find a place to learn, right?"

"It’s not that simple," Angel said. "The hospitals where dical students do their internships aren’t chosen randomly; they’re usually arranged by the school. For him to co here, there are two possibilities. One is that this place is truly worth it and his professor approved—otherwise, his graduation would be in jeopardy. The other is that this student, Chairman Kang, has incredibly powerful family connections and can intern wherever he wants, simply to pad his resu."

Of course, it was also possible that both were true.

Angel didn’t voice this thought, as it seed too improbable.

Huang Long remained unconvinced. "He’s just a village doctor. What could there possibly be to learn from him? I think it’s most likely he’s just here to pad his resu."

It wasn’t surprising that Huang Long thought this way. Resources in this world were finite. The best resources and opportunities always congregated at the very top of the pyramid. The rich get richer, and the poor get poorer—a saying that applied to more than just money. The brain drain from their province had been quite obvious over the years. It wasn’t a difficult concept to grasp.

For instance, if they weren’t filming a docuntary about village doctors, they would never have paid any attention to this place, nor to the field of village dicine itself. Their subconscious perception, and the reality of the situation, was that a village doctor was not so kind of incredible master.

Huang Long didn’t think there was anything special about Wang Jian. And yet, as soone who had fild all sorts of subjects over the years, he couldn’t shake the feeling that sothing about this place was off.

Angel felt the sa, so she didn’t respond to Huang Long.

"I have a feeling this isn’t so simple. Will it affect our filming?" she worried. She was worried they might have run into a fraud, which would an all their footage would be unusable for the television station. If that were the case, they would have to pivot from a dical docuntary to a cultural one.

Angel added, "This docuntary should ideally make people aware of the deficiencies in rural healthcare, attracting more attention from various sectors of society. Maybe it could lead to improvents... but that doesn’t an we can just film soone slacking off."

Huang Long nodded in agreent. "It’s fine. We’ll observe for a few days. Whether he’s genuinely skilled or just a slacker, we’ll have a way to handle it."

"Either way, it will create a contrast with other places... At worst, we can just get a doctor from the town or city. It’s not like we’ll be left with nothing to film."

Huang Long’s suggestion was a decent one. In the car, Angel closed her eyes to rest, mulling over the feasibility of these backup plans. As for how good Wang Jian’s dical skills really were, they could only observe for now.

Hopefully... the best-case scenario is that Wang Jian is truly what they’ve seen, that he’ll be their hidden gem.

Angel prayed silently, hoping her first ti leading a team wouldn’t be a disaster.
