Seeing that everyone had gone quiet, Wang Jian said directly, "I’m telling you this so you can be ntally prepared, Chairman Kang. I’m not refusing to teach you, but whether or not you can learn is entirely up to you. And how far you can go will vary from person to person."

Chairman Kang didn’t fully understand the last sentence, but he had achieved his goal, and a look of joy appeared on his face.

"I will work hard."

With that out of the way, Wang Jian didn’t say anything more. In truth, even if Chairman Kang couldn’t cultivate Qi, there was still plenty Wang Jian could teach him—more than enough to take him on as a student.

Besides, a sudden thought had occurred to him...

If I want to make the village clinic bigger and better, I’m going to need people. Waiting for Ren Yu to graduate will take forever. Now I have soone ready and willing, so why not?

At this thought, Wang Jian broke into a smile. He was pleased, but when Chairman Kang saw that smile, he felt a prickle of anxiety, though he couldn’t quite put his finger on why.

Wang Jian took the opportunity to explain a few things to keep in mind and also arranged to head back with Chairman Kang in a few days. With Song Yijin’s approval, it didn’t matter if Chairman Kang missed class. It could be treated as a solo internship, which was a reasonable practice for a third-year student. He just had to rember to return for his exams.

When Wang Jian left the Song family ho, Song Tianran specifically walked him out. She was ostensibly seeing him off, but they walked all the way to the mouth of the alley in a comfortable silence, their arms and sides brushing against each other. The sun was setting, and the sweltering heat in the air was beginning to fade.

At the end of the alley, just after Wang Jian pulled her out of the way of a passing rcedes, Song Tianran finally spoke. "Have you found a place to stay tonight?"

"Not yet. I was planning to just find a hotel later," Wang Jian said with a shrug. He positioned Song Tianran on the side closer to the wall, standing on the outside to shield her from the street. In his mind, finding a hotel wasn’t urgent, so he hadn’t bothered to book one in advance.

His casual attitude earned him an eye-roll and a scoff from Song Tianran. "How can you still be so careless? Don’t you know it’s the beginning of the school season? The hotels are probably all booked up by parents or young couples by now."

Wang Jian was skeptical at first, but a quick look at his phone proved her right. On the booking apps, all the decent, cost-effective hotels were full. The only options left were either five-star luxury hotels or cheap guesthouses.

They booked up so fast...

Wang Jian sighed and said with a wry smile, "Well, if I have to, I’ll just make do with whatever’s left." If he had known, he wouldn’t have been so polite with the professor; he would have just stayed at his house to avoid the hassle.

As if reading his mind, Song Tianran said, "Don’t worry, I have a solution."

She then pressed a hotel room key card into his hand.

"This is..." Wang Jian stared at the card, stunned. "Why do you have a hotel key card?"

As soon as he asked, he saw her expression change and imdiately understood. "At a ti like this, why aren’t you staying at ho? Are you staying in a hotel because you have too much money to burn?"

"That’s not it," Song Tianran said with a smile. "You know my relationship with the old man isn’t great. My sister and the others are at work during the day, so I let them take care of him at night. I just stay sowhere else."

Only then did Wang Jian realize that even though Song Tianran was back in Beijing, she wasn’t living at ho.

"Then this..." The key card felt like it was burning a hole in his palm. It felt wrong to keep it, but even more awkward to give it back. "What about you, then?"

The mont he asked, her smile widened. "What do you an, ’what about ’? We’ll both be staying there."

Without waiting for his reaction, she turned and walked away, leaving him standing there at a loss.

Song Tianran had predicted his reaction perfectly. After walking so distance, she glanced back and saw him still standing there, holding the key card and looking around helplessly. She let out a soft chuckle. It’s been so many years, but he’s still the sa.

The situation felt just like when they had first t. If she recalled correctly, she had been the one to take the initiative then, too, and Wang Jian’s flustered reaction had been identical to his reaction now.

But... it was precisely that reaction that had captured her heart.

Of course, Wang Jian was oblivious to Song Tianran’s thoughts. He stood at the intersection, his mind completely preoccupied with the key card in his hand. He wasn’t an idiot. While he hadn’t expected her sudden move, the implication of the card was intensely provocative. He couldn’t be blad for overthinking it; his first ti with this woman, Song Tianran, had started in a very similar way.

Is she paying for my services tonight?

Wang Jian chuckled and pocketed the key card. He was familiar with the hotel; he and Zhang Tianran used to et there often. He’d heard it had closed for renovations, so it must be nicely redone now that it had reopened.

I’ll just go check out the new decor. It’s not like I’m going for the woman. I’m a respectable man, captivated by beautiful scenery, not by beautiful won.

Wang Jian had been in the hotel room for less than half an hour when he heard a knock on the door.

When he opened it, Song Tianran stood there, dressed all in black. A pleasant fragrance wafted in with her—not perfu, but the simple scent of shampoo and body wash.

"Did you take a special trip to shower before coming?" Wang Jian teased, wrapping an arm around her waist and pulling her inside. He lowered his head to her neck, took a deep breath, and murmured, "You sll so good."

"It’s so hot out. If I didn’t shower, I’d be covered in sweat," Song Tianran chuckled, pushing him away lightly. She walked past him, saying, "Would you still hold if I was all sweaty?"

With that, she sat on the edge of the bed and crossed her legs, causing her short skirt to slide up to the tops of her thighs.

Wang Jian’s eyes instinctively flickered to her long legs. "Of course, I would. I wouldn’t mind at all."

When he looked up, he t her gaze. She was watching him with a teasing look, making no effort to cover herself. After her shower, she had deliberately changed into a miniskirt that barely covered her hips and a daringly backless top. As a fitness enthusiast, her outfit showcased all of her best assets. She was slim and slender but still full in all the right places, with no excess fat anywhere else. It seed that even though they hadn’t seen each other much over the years, she hadn’t neglected her workouts.

Song Tianran scoffed, "n and their lies. I’d be a fool to believe you."

Wang Jian shrugged. "I’m different from other n."

Song Tianran glanced at him, ignoring his retort. Propping herself up on the large bed with one hand, she dangled her handbag in the air. "Help put my bag away."

As Wang Jian walked over and reached for the strap, she suddenly tossed the bag aside and yanked him toward her.

Caught completely off guard, Wang Jian tumbled forward and landed on top of her. They were face-to-face, so close their breaths brushed against each other’s cheeks. He could see the burning fervor in her eyes and feel the warmth of her body.

She had definitely done it on purpose. Wang Jian had no doubt about that, because she had already wrapped her legs around him.
