Wang Jian had just finished speaking when the bald owner said with a curious tone, "Doctor Wang, you’re really sothing. We just ca from a prenatal checkup, and the doctor said the exact sa thing. But my wife had a craving, so we figured we’d stop by for a bite before heading to the hospital to get settled."

After hearing this, Wang Jian nodded. "It seems my assessnt was correct." Since it was standard practice to check into the hospital a few days before the due date, there shouldn’t be any problems, and Wang Jian felt relieved.

"By the way, Brother Xu, do you have any new dishes today?" Wang Jian asked the owner. This owner, Xu Liang, was a man with a past in the underworld whom Wang Jian had t years ago while practicing dicine with his master. Wang Jian had even saved his life, which was how they beca acquainted. It was a surprise to find that Xu Liang had since opened a Japanese restaurant here.

"Yes, of course!" Xu Liang bead, guiding his wife to their table. "Today’s al is on the house. Don’t worry about what to order; I’ll take care of everything."

With that, he walked off. When he returned, he was carrying two large platters piled high with an assortnt of sashimi.

Ren Yu and Cai Jun watched in astonishnt, never having imagined that Wang Jian knew the owner. Moreover, judging by the owner’s behavior, it was clearly more than just friendship; there was even a hint of ingratiation in his attitude toward Wang Jian. The two girls didn’t ask any questions, simply observing as everything unfolded.

"Here, have so of this to start," Xu Liang said, sitting down. "There’s grilled food on the way. I see you ordered a serving of foie gras. You probably haven’t had enough, so I’ll bring two more portions in a bit."

Only after Xu Liang had settled in did Wang Jian make the introductions. "Brother Xu, this is my sister and her classmate. They’re both students at the dical university next door."

Xu Liang smiled. "Future doctors, eh? A pleasure to et you."

"Nice to et you, Brother Xu!" Ren Yu and Cai Jun replied politely.

"Brother, how do you know Brother Xu?" Ren Yu finally found the chance to ask. The mont she did, Cai Jun looked over expectantly. Even Xu Liang’s wife, Xiao Hu, glanced their way, making it clear that Xu Liang had never ntioned Wang Jian before. His current enthusiasm was obviously out of the ordinary.

Xiao Hu knew her husband well. He used to run with the underworld before finally going straight. While his temper hadn’t changed much, he had matured significantly and learned to keep it in check. Still, his way of treating people was unique. This was the first ti she had ever seen him act with such a combination of warmth, respect, and gratitude toward soone.

Hearing Ren Yu’s question, Wang Jian and Xu Liang both smiled. The story of how they t was truly a matter of fate.

Xu Liang let out a laugh and said to the young won, "How I t Doctor Wang isn’t so big secret. The fact that I always call him Doctor Wang should give you a clue."

"Ah!" At his words, his wife, Hu Tiantian, was the first to realize. "Are you saying..."

She looked at Xu Liang, who nodded, then turned her gaze to Wang Jian.

Xu Liang took his wife’s hand under the table and continued, "It must have been three years ago. You were probably still a postgraduate student then."

Wang Jian thought for a mont and nodded in agreent. "Timing-wise, that sounds about right. I hadn’t officially graduated, but I was already working at the hospital."

"I hadn’t opened this restaurant yet," Xu Liang said, rolling up his long sleeve to reveal his forearm. Ren Yu and Cai Jun were startled. The arm was not only covered in tattoos but also riddled with scars that overlaid the ink.

The two dical students exchanged a look, each seeing the shock in the other’s eyes. They could tell just how severe the injuries that caused those scars must have been. It was obvious they were from knife fights. They never would have guessed that the owner of a Japanese restaurant was such a hardened man. They had initially thought the bald, muscular owner seed quite friendly, but now, he looked like a nacing figure. The two young won swallowed hard, rendered speechless.

Seeing their reaction, Wang Jian hid a smile, while Xu Liang and his wife also looked on, amused.

Xu Liang continued, "Back then, I’d offended soone and was being hunted down. I was on the verge of death when I luckily ran into Wang Jian."

He spoke of the life-threatening chase nonchalantly, then tugged his collar open to reveal his chest. There, starkly visible, was a scar pointing directly toward his heart.

He touched the raised tissue and added with a lingering fear in his voice, "The guy had gotten a gun from sowhere. That bullet nearly killed . If I hadn’t t Wang Jian, I wouldn’t be here today."

His wife, Hu Tiantian, had clearly heard this story before. She showed no surprise as he spoke, rely gazing at him with eyes full of love and awe while gently caressing his face.

"It’s okay, honey," Xu Liang said, capturing her hand and kissing it. The couple’s sweet display was completely lost on the two students. To their ears, Xu Liang’s understated account of his rescue landed like a clap of thunder on a clear day.

"Hiss..." Ren Yu gasped the mont she saw the wound. She recalled a question a student had once asked in class, inspired by a movie scene: could soone who was shot in the heart actually be saved?

Their professor had explained that while it was theoretically possible, in reality, the victim would almost never survive long enough for dical help to arrive, nor would the conditions be right for a rescue. After all, an injury to the heart would cause blood to erupt like a volcano. A person would bleed out long before anyone could save them.

With this in mind, Ren Yu turned to Wang Jian, her eyes wide with bewildernt and curiosity. "How did you do it?"

Cai Jun nodded in agreent. "Yes, how? That’s almost impossible." Coming from a family of doctors, she had heard about countless cases, almost none of which were successful unless the person had an ectopic heart. So, after her initial question, she added, "Don’t tell he has an ectopic heart?"

"No, no," Wang Jian waved his hand. "Not at all. His heart is right where it’s supposed to be. The main reason I could save him was that I happened to be nearby when it happened."

"But even if you were there, you wouldn’t have had ti to treat him," Cai Jun argued. "The blood loss..."

"Ha," Wang Jian chuckled. "I know what you’re thinking, but don’t forget my specialty. I practice Chinese dicine. And in Chinese dicine," he said, cutting her off before she could reply, "we have acupuncture."

"Acupuncture?" Cai Jun was stunned, but Ren Yu, who had witnessed the miraculous power of Wang Jian’s acupuncture before, instantly understood. She looked at her brother with pure adoration.

"That’s right," Wang Jian nodded. "I used acupuncture to stop the bleeding first, which bought us so ti."

"Using acupuncture to stop the bleeding... but..." Cai Jun frowned, pressing on. "Even if you stopped the bleeding, what about his heart? If it stopped beating, what could you do?"

Hearing this, Wang Jian didn’t explain. Without an understanding of vital energy, the question was unanswerable. He had relied on manipulating Xu Liang’s vital energy to keep him stable until the ambulance arrived, where they perford the transfusion and suturing. That was how he had saved Xu Liang’s life. This was simply beyond what Cai Jun could comprehend at the mont. Wang Jian just shrugged, leaving Cai Jun speechless.

"So, you see? It was fate, wasn’t it?" Wang Jian said with a smile, closing the topic.

Xu Liang picked up the story. "After I survived, I wanted to find a way to repay Doctor Wang. But he just advised to change my line of work. I thought about it long and hard and ended up opening this Japanese restaurant. Hahaha, turns out I already knew people who could source fresh seafood, so... here we are."

"And you know, I’ve always loved to eat, so running this place has made really happy. Eventually, it led to Tiantian... oh, that’s my wife."

To top it all off, the story even ended with a public display of affection.

But amidst this emotional rollercoaster, Xu Liang suddenly noticed his wife Hu Tiantian’s expression twist in pain.
