Just as Zhang Li thought he was on the brink of death, Wang Jian’s voice cut through the haze. "It’s done! The bleeding has stopped! His blood pressure is stable!"

"Really?" Li Liping’s joyful voice followed. "That’s wonderful! Husband... husband, did you hear that?"

Li Liping stood up, unconcerned about the bloodstains covering her. In reality, not much ti had passed since the bloodletting began, but the upper half of her body was covered in blood, so of which had already clotted into a horrifying sight.

Hearing Wang Jian, Li Liping imdiately ran to the bedside. She drew close to Zhang Li, untied his hands, and whispered, "Husband?"

The voice was like that of a savior. Unfortunately, Zhang Li was in such a bad state that he thought it was a hallucination and couldn’t even open his mouth to ask a question.

Seeing that Zhang Li could barely open his eyes, blinking weakly, Wang Jian knew sothing was wrong. "Step aside."

It wasn’t just him; Li Liping had also noticed sothing was off. "What’s wrong with him? Didn’t you say he was alright?"

"He’s lost too much blood and is about to go into shock," Wang Jian said as he sat down on the edge of the bed, pushing Li Liping aside. If this were a hospital, he would have a nurse arrange a blood transfusion, but now he had to improvise. Wang Jian needed to stimulate the Life Energy within Zhang Li’s body to sustain his vitality. It was essentially a temporary boost to Zhang Li’s physical condition.

Different people react differently to varying amounts of blood loss. Zhang Li’s constitution was clearly weaker than Wang Jian had expected. In his mory, Zhang Li only lacked prowess in one particular area, but his body was otherwise exceptionally strong. Clearly, that was no longer the case; these dicine Pills had wrecked his body. Otherwise, Wang Jian would have made more thorough preparations before the bloodletting. Ordinarily, his perception of qi should have allowed him to detect the problem. But as luck would have it, he arrived just as the dicine Pills were agitating Zhang Li’s system, causing his qi to flare up even more vigorously than usual. This was why Wang Jian had misjudged the situation.

What he needed to do now was help relight a nearly extinguished candle.

If Xu Changqing were here and knew what Wang Jian was about to do, he would have stopped him without hesitation. Accomplishing this required sothing akin to the ’qi transmission’ depicted in martial arts novels. The reason blood transfusions are effective is because blood contains energy. But with no blood available, Wang Jian had to use his own qi to strengthen the qi in soone else’s body, or even transfer it directly.

Wasn’t that a fool’s dream? In any case, it was a feat Xu Changqing couldn’t perform.

Years ago, when Xu Changqing had taken Wang Jian along to practice dicine, they had encountered a similar situation. At the ti, Xu Changqing had proposed such a theory but failed in the execution, even injuring himself in the process. For that reason, Xu Changqing would have never supported Wang Jian in doing the sa thing. But Xu Changqing could never have imagined that it was precisely because of his own past failure that Wang Jian would resort to this thod in the absence of a blood transfusion.

If he succeeded, he would unlock a whole new realm of possibility, vastly broadening the horizons of this school of Ancient dical Skills. As long as he could keep soone clinging to life, Wang Jian would be content. This way, the chances of saving people would increase. For instance, if a dying person could, in theory, be kept hanging on by a thread until a cure was found, their life could be saved. Of course, this was an idealistic scenario. In fact, many terminal illnesses aren’t a matter of ti but of technology and dicine; rely prolonging a life like this is unlikely to help. But Zhang Li’s current state was simply due to blood loss; he could absolutely be kept stable while he recovered.

The theory was sound. Now ca the practical application.

Wang Jian inserted silver needles into all of Zhang Li’s major acupoints, stabilizing his critical condition to prevent him from suddenly passing away. The silver needles were coated in qi, restraining the qi already inside Zhang Li’s body. Only then did Wang Jian attempt to transfer his own qi through the silver needles. But for so reason, once transferred, the qi quickly dissipated. It offered no sustenance at all. Only the qi coating the silver needles themselves remained stable.

Seeing this, Wang Jian was stunned. It was almost the sa thing that had happened when Xu Changqing had tried. However, one thing was particularly strange: Wang Jian noticed that Zhang Li’s complexion had beco rosy. So, he only paused for a mont before continuing to channel his qi. Sure enough, it proved that his qi was incredibly strange. After he had consud the human pill, it could actually exist inside another person’s body. Although there was so loss, it was at least effective.

"Lao Zhang looks so much better!" Li Liping also noticed this, her face a mask of astonishnt. In her eyes, Wang Jian had only inserted a few needles and pressed on a few spots on Zhang Li’s body. Beyond that, he had done nothing else.

When did a massage beco this effective?

This was the first ti Li Liping had personally witnessed Wang Jian treating soone, and the thod was far different from what she had imagined. "How did you do that?"

Wang Jian shrugged, not answering the question. However, the emptiness inside him was a constant reminder that his thod today had been far too rash. Just dealing with blood loss had left him this drained. If it had been a more serious illness, how could he possibly have withstood it?

"Alright, he’s stable for now. Let him sleep for a while." Wang Jian stood up, taking a deep breath to recover. He resolved to think much more carefully the next ti he used this thod.

"Are you alright?" Li Liping could see Wang Jian’s exhaustion. Although she didn’t know why, she knew Zhang Li hadn’t recovered for no reason.

"Don’t worry about ," Wang Jian said with a smile. "Just make sure you don’t let him take those dicine Pills again." Pointing to the discarded dicine bottle and pills, he continued, "When I drew the blood, I did my best to avoid his nerves, so his foundation hasn’t been damaged. Once he wakes up, I’ll treat his other condition. There might be so side effects, but it will at least be an improvent."

"I’m leaving now," Wang Jian said and walked toward the door.

"You’re leaving already?" In the instant Li Liping was stunned, Wang Jian had already opened the door. She quickly followed him. "Won’t you stay a little longer?"

"No need. Zhang Li needs to rest quietly now. There’s no point in staying." Wang Jian waved a hand and walked straight out the door.

A hot gust of air blew in as Li Liping stood in the doorway, watching Wang Jian’s retreating back. Only when the warm breeze hit her did she feel the extre discomfort of the dried blood caked on her body.

Li Liping didn’t know what she was thinking. After standing at the door for a while, she returned to the room, tidied up, and cleaned the blood off Zhang Li. Seeing him sleeping so soundly on the bed without any signs of discomfort, her mind finally cald. She went into the bathroom to wash the gri from her body.

As the water stread down her skin, her thoughts returned to the image of Wang Jian’s retreating back. Ever since Zhang Li had returned, she hadn’t known how to face Wang Jian. This was why they hadn’t been in contact recently. It was just that... no one could have predicted what would happen to Zhang Li. In her panic, she had instantly thought of Wang Jian, which led to everything that had just happened.

But what about later? When there isn’t a crisis, how am I supposed to face him?

Honestly, she couldn’t say.
